Wrote this since it seems this context is missing[edit]

Should be worth sharing context with regards to Liz Magill's resignation and current events.

More information on controversy[edit]

Information on this topic has been in national and regional news precisely because of the controversy. I'm of the opinion that it should be still included on here, including much of what happened regarding the festival afterwards, such as Liz Magill's removal and the response of UPenn donors to the conference. I am not sure exactly if there is a specific page for the turmoil that UPenn and other Ivy League schools faced in regards to the israel-gaza war.

Hi. There is an article about the 2023 United States Congress hearing on antisemitism that covers the hearing, the controversy, and the fallout. If we don't have independent, reliable sources on Palestine Writes, the article should probably be merged. But I suspect other sources exist. The paragraph you added this morning helpss.
Do you use the the Wikipedia Library ? I have often found sources via ProQuest that I didn't come across online. There is also Al-Manhal Electronic Library, a database for internationally reliable Arabic and scientific content. (I just did a search-- there were results for Palestine Writes but I found it hard to navigate. I need more coffee.) I'll look for other sources too. Thanks for the message. I switched the infobox from event to organization and added their headquarters and executive director. (The event infobox would also work but it would need to also include the 2020 festival to keep the article from being about one event). I also added information from other sources that I found via ProQuest. I was surprised by the sponsors of the 2020 festival.
Also, the first Philadelphia Inquirer article about the festival reports that the 2023 speakers included "Pulitzer Prize-winning author Viet Thanh Nguyen, Peabody Award-winning journalist Dena Takrur, and Maytha Alhassen, co-executive producer of the Hulu show Ramy". I think we need to include them, if we include others, to adhere to nuetrality and avoid cherry picking. JSFarman (talk) 17:04, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I found the source for the Jerusalem Quarterly using Google Scholar and looking for the exact quote "Palestine Writes". It appears to be the only journal article I could find on it for 2020. It was shown only as an abstract in the EBSCOHost catalogue, but I was able to search for the title on Google to find the original article.
I wanted to specifically highlight Marc Lamont Hill and Roger Waters as they are the focal point of the controversy and allegations of antisemitism on most articles focusing on controversy.
I'm a student at UPenn and the controversy around the 2023 Palestine Writes festival extends before the senate hearing (I admit I'm a bit biased). I think that leads to a broader question of if that senate hearing article should be expanded to also include donor backlash, the banning of SJP at various universities, and other similar events.
I didn't know about the Wikipedia Library! Thank you for the information and for your help improving the article! Sawerchessread (talk) 19:33, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again Sawerchessread (talk), thank you for being open-minded. AND! If you believe that Waters and Hill be mentioned, in this article or the article about the hearings, you should add that they spoke at the event. This is a collaborative process. I am just bossy. (My edits have been reverted a gazillion times.)
So glad to have crossed paths. My father, my mother, and my uncle went to Penn! My dad was a writer and editor for the Daily Pennsylvanian -- he graduated in 1957 -- and my uncle was the managing editor. My mom dropped out after she met my Dad. In the language of the 1950s, she received her MRS degree. (I can't believe that was an actual thing.)
You need to have 500 edits to access the Wikipedia Library. I hope you stick around to make them! There are so many articles that need to be created and/or edited and you are obviously good at this. I am happy to help anytime! JSFarman (talk) 21:21, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
haha, yes. I actually consider myself rather antizionist, but recently on campus, the conference has been mentioned only in the context of liz magill's firing. I suppose i got biased from only seeing the conference mentioned in the context of controversy, and was surprised to not see an article about the conference itself on wikipedia.
thank you for guiding me through the process. it was fun. hope to stick around awhile too. Sawerchessread (talk) 02:16, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback from New Page Review process[edit]

I left the following feedback for the creator/future reviewers while reviewing this article: Thanks for writing this article, particularly considering the organization's profile following the 2023 controversy. I edited it to broaden the focus from the controversy to the organization itself; I'm sure there is more that can be added.
