(No subject)[edit]

I have removed the part about Ugo's injury sustained during the "derby" game against Sunderland as it is outdadted. Besides it's debatable whether or not Middlesbrough V. Sunderland is a derby match. They are not in the same city or even county. True, they are local but then so are Liverpool and Manchester but that isn't classes as a derby - more a rivalry. Sunderland have Newcastle, Middlesbrough can have...Stockton or Darlington. Middlesbrough are as close to Leeds as they are Sunderland! (well...almost). The old North Riding of Yorkshire and all that

quote[edit]

"We always looked forward to playing Aston Villa to hear him mangle Ugo Ehiogu's name. "Make sure you pick up Ehugu, Ehogy, whatever his name is." Gary Neville --203.219.93.37 (talk) 13:10, 1 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In the news (sadly)[edit]

I've nominated this article for inclusion in the "In the news..." section of the front page - see Wikipedia:In the news/Candidates#April 21. I would appreciate help with making sure that the article is well sourced. Pinging Ghmyrtle, Arwel Parry, Jmorrison230582, Mattythewhite, Govvy, Cs-wolves, Mountaincirque... We just need to be careful because quite a lot of the newspaper obituaries look like they've used the Wikipedia article for information, so older sources would be preferred to prevent circular referencing. Cordless Larry (talk) 09:40, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The nomination has been accepted. Thanks to all who helped - especially Jmorrison230582. Hopefully we can continue to expand and improve the article in memory of Ugo. Cordless Larry (talk) 14:00, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Obituaries are noting that Ehiogu won the League Cup three times, including twice with Villa (1994 and 1996). According to 1994 Football League Cup Final, he didn't play in the final that year. Does anyone know if he was an unused substitute? Would he have got a medal? Cordless Larry (talk) 16:53, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Answering my first question, he wasn't on the bench (I misread that article and thought only used subs were listed, but there were only three in those days). Would he have got a medal for playing earlier in the competition? Cordless Larry (talk) 17:23, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The Barry Hugman yearbooks are usually as good a source as any regarding honours, and they only list 1996 and 2004. Mattythewhite (talk) 18:13, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Don't forget that normally it's around 25 medals given out to each club in a final, so he would of have to have played in the earlier games or he wouldn't qualify and the medals would goto club staff instead. Govvy (talk) 18:26, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
When trying to find sources I read that he missed a penalty in a shoot-out in the semi-final, so he did play earlier in the competition. Cordless Larry (talk) 18:30, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, 27 Feb, 1994 he came off the bench. (11v11.com team sheets)]. I think that's a decent enough citation, what do you think? Govvy (talk) 18:43, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have no doubt that he played in that match (see also this and this), but do we know whether that qualified him for a medal? If so, why isn't he listed in Hugman? Cordless Larry (talk) 18:46, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I just watched the end of the cup final video on youtube and I don't see him picking up a medal with the rest of the squad. Govvy (talk) 18:59, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Cordless Larry, Even the BBC half time segment of the Spurs-Chelsea game said he won the league cup twice with Villa. Govvy (talk) 17:19, 22 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I popped out briefly at half time and missed that. Thanks for adding the detail on 1994 though - I was thinking about something like that yesterday. Hopefully that will stop people constantly trying to add a 1994 medal. Cordless Larry (talk) 17:38, 22 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
k, I expanded his Villa section a bit, hopefully that should also covered what we questioned above, that should cover some of the key points of his Villa career. Govvy (talk) 14:29, 22 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I was wondering if it would be better if section "death" should be a sub-heading under personal life, so it's more combined together because they are small sections. Govvy (talk) 16:05, 22 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Seems like a sensible idea to me. Cordless Larry (talk) 17:38, 22 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

International matches[edit]

Did he only play in friendlies? Govvy (talk) 19:54, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

According to this, yes. Cordless Larry (talk) 20:02, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I adjusted the section a bit to state they were friendlies, I read that standard article, there are two paragraph's in the article which look like a straight copy from wikipedia! heh. Govvy (talk) 20:44, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, and I've seen the same elsewhere today. I know that newspapers have rough prepared obituaries for many famous people, but presumably that's not the case when the person dies so young. It seem that in that case, Wikipedia comes into play, and the risk of circular referencing is real. Cordless Larry (talk) 20:53, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wembley F.C[edit]

In the Infobox it says he didn't make any appearances but later on in the article it says he made an appearance in the FA Cup preliminary round for Wembley. So that means he made at least 1 appearance for Wembley. Does anyone have any more information about his appearances for Wembley? Mobile mundo (talk) 16:02, 24 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The infobox is only for league matches, not cups. The Wembley thing was a publicity stunt sponsorship exercise specifically for that season's FA Cup, see e.g. http://www.skysports.com/football/news/13865/7833477/wembley-fc-enlist-former-stars and the Wembley F.C. article. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 16:20, 24 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
