Categorization[edit]

I have added this article to categories for 'Rural community development', 'Social movements', Non-governmental organizations' and 'Anti-globalization'. I am removing categorization for 'international development multilaterals'; this category should be used for offial development assistance. Multilaterals are World Bank, United Nations, European Union, etc. APB-CMX 09:40, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Composition? Membership?[edit]

Does anyone have any information on the composition or member of this organization? What are it's affiliations? Is it an organization of organizations (and if so which)? Or does it have individual members? A recent - July 31st 2008 - Democracy Now! broadcast interviewee suggested a probably membership on the order of 150 million individuals, which would seem to imply a very significant movement. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.157.194.76 (talk) 16:18, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You can see the full list of member organizations here: http://www.viacampesina.org/main_en/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=71 (from the last congress held in Maputo, Mozambique, October 2008) It is a significant movement. —Precedingunsigned comment added by Petani (talkcontribs) 05:32, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Changes[edit]

I am changing the page title to La Vía Campesina, which is the correct spelling and grammar for the original phrase in Spanish.

I am also adding the citation to the description given of the movement in the introduction to clarify the source of that information.

I propose changing the sections to the following: History first to give background on the origins of the movement. Organization to explain how the movement is structured. Food Sovereignty to elaborate on this concept. Academic Perspectives to provide context on the global food economy that produced the perceived need for the movement. I also would like to add a section for Further Reading if people want to know more.

Here are some sources that I plan to use in further edits:

Hi Dmaldonado08, you have some great revisions going on! I do have a couple suggestions for improvement though. You should consider adding more information about the other topics that La Via Campesina is concerned about, like biodiversity and genetic resources (which you mentioned in the History section). In addition, you should try talking about the scope of this movement and what they have already accomplished, along with a comparison to other farmer advocacy groups. Including some opposing views or criticisms of this movement would also help maintain a neutral point of view. Also consider doing some restructuring of your "Organization" section just to make it more clear what the hierarchical structure of the organization is and what role each of the leadership positions plays. A couple more pictures would also help make your article more visually appealing. This is a great start though, good job! Azhao96 (talk) 03:12, 21 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Dmaldonado08, great job with your revisions so far! Here are just a few suggestions for improvements moving forward. I think your next step would be to expand a bit more on some of the many topics concerning La Via Campesina that you mentioned. For example, it would be great if you could elaborate on what La Via Campesina has already accomplished, specific campaigns, and specifics ways the movement has helped farmers and the issues it cares about. Also, it would be helpful if you could expand a bit on some of the economic theories you mentioned such as the hegemonic ideology of neoliberalism just to make it a bit easier for a general audience to comprehend. Great work! Courtwang (talk) 02:42, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Dmaldonado08! Good job with the revisions! The article is very comprehensive, especially when considering where it started. Overall I would just suggest including more pros and cons of the group (any criticisms or praise they may have received) and what effects the group has had on their issues. Furthermore, I would expand upon a few of the sections (such as Awards). Overall though a very good job!Abergin13 (talk) 00:28, 5 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Dmaldonado08! I would change the formatting to coincide with Wikipedia guidelines in terms of only capitalizing the first word of the section title. I also would try to increase the neutrality of the article with more tonal changes. Your references are good and your introductions to them reduce bias of the information, however, some sentences without references are statements with clear standings. I would also expand upon the history section, giving more specifics in large events in different countries connected to the organization. Hey Dmaldonado08, great job with the expansion of this article! You have really turned it into a comprehensive page, providing good detail for people who have perhaps not heard much about La Via Campesina. Your article was very easy to follow and I really like the addition of the chart you used. Moving forward, some suggestions for improvement would include expanding on a few of the topics you mentioned, and working on maintaining a neutral tone of voice. Maybe you could add an image of La Via Campesina's logo if you can find one. Good work! Courtwang (talk) 03:32, 5 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A few comments[edit]

This is a great contribution to an important topic. Other than the feedback you've already received from your peer reviewers, I just have a couple comments:
- The food regimes section doesn't effectively link back to La Via Campesina movement.
- You could potentially create a "controversy" section which discusses criticisms of La Via Campesina. This could also incorporate more information about food regimes and any conflict between neoliberal policies and La Via Campesina. Including alternate viewpoints can enhance the article and boost its credibility.
Please let me know if you have any questions or would like any help with anything. GavinCross (talk) 17:24, 20 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Opening table..[edit]

... whilst showing its source, is still just a presentation, for the most part, of a leftist critique of how the world's food is largely produced and distributed. 2600:1004:B15A:45C1:0:4:DCB3:C801 (talk) 21:01, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
