Better title[edit]

What's a better title for this article, if the main series was actually on BBC One rather than BBC Four? Walking with... (BBC One series) or Walking with... (BBC series) wouldn't really distinguish it from the Walking with... dinosaur franchise. Perhaps "(2021 series)"? --Lord Belbury (talk) 18:56, 10 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Good question. I hadn't heard of the October series, only the Yorkshire and Winter walks, so will look forward to catching up on iPlayer: thanks. I've really enjoyed the Yorkshire and both series of Winter, especially the Arnside to Jenny Brown's Point one which was very near home ("Ah yes I recognise that muddy bit of path near the top of the caravan site" etc). There's not really an overarching title, though I can see the sense in grouping them together into one article. "Cy Chadwick's walking series"? No, not really. Almost Walking With ..., Winter Walks and Yorkshire Walks as a title, as that's really what it's about (plus the Chris Packham one-off), as the format is common. Its a convoluted title but it does reflect the content of the article accurately, while the present title doesn't suggest that it includes Yorkshire Walks or Winter Walks. Or perhaps Walking With ... (TV walks series) or something like that, as the topic is more distinguishing than the TV channel? Though that still ignores Yorkshire and Winter. PamD 23:31, 10 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I've tried to restructure the article a bit but it's messy: the infobox, for example, shows 6 episodes. I don't think we can have an article called "Walking With... (anything)" which actually covers two other separately-named series, Yorkshire Walks and Winter Walks. I fear that the only logical solution is either to create a new article for each series (quite short, and duplicating the info about the format - unsourced so far till we can find a source other than our viewing knowledge) or to move them back into Cy Chadwick's article. If there is already a dinosaur series listed under the Walking with... name then these shows might be better grouped under the article title Winter Walks (BBC Four series) as that might be the more 'well-known' title. People in the media must think that this version the show is of importance as Series 2 of Winter Walks highlighted on the cover of the Radio Times 27 Nov-3 Dec 2021 with a large feature story on pages 22-25. In addition a large photo of Amanda Owen from her walk was used for the 'Pick Of The Day' on page 64.
I don't think each title should get their own article, as yes they would just be stubs with a lot of the same info, but maybe their own infobox (like when a popular song gets a number of successful charted cover versions those records normally get their own infobox). Also you cannot just call the article BBC Walks as these camera-stick programmes from Cy Chadwick are of a format that's different to the more traditional celeb-fronted documentary approach of other regional BBC walk shows like River Walks[1] or the ones with Paul Rose.[2][3] Those other shows are closer in style to the walks Julia Bradbury[4][5] did for ITV or something like Channel 5's Coastal Britain with Kate Humble[6] or Coastal Devon & Cornwall with Michael Portillo.[7] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.152.236.131 (talk) 15:47, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (television) could offer some advice. I'm trying to think of other programmes that are fragmented in the same way, to see how they're written up at Wikipedia. All I can think of is Springwatch (which includes three different shows under perhaps the best-known title, mentioning the others in the first sentence, but not in the article title) and The Mash Report (which includes two shows, using the older, longer-running title). --Lord Belbury (talk) 15:50, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea: See Wikipedia_talk:Naming_conventions_(television)#Group_of_related_series PamD 16:37, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

First piece of advice – do not disambiguate by "TV network" (e.g. BBC One series, BBC Four series): WP:NCTV deprecated that some time ago. Beyond that, I don't know enough about the specific details here to offer much more advice. In general, if you can deprecate "by year" – e.g. something like "(2019 TV series)" – then that would be the best approach. --IJBall (contribstalk) 17:28, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I'll go with "2019 TV series" for now, given that the current title is factually incorrect. --Lord Belbury (talk) 20:11, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
