Untitled[edit]

I have been looking at the history of ferry crossings to/from the Isle of Wight in recent months and have come to the conclusion that much of the information that resides in the historical sections where previous companies are involved may be better put into a separate page which deals with the subject in general. A title such as Isle of Wight ferry services might be suitable. In this way an overview of the present situation together with details of previous companies and how they amalgamated can be described. Especially when going back to the 19th century this information doesn't sit comfortably in WightLink as you keep having to say XYZ company which was taken over by ABC which became DEF then changed its name ... then became WightLink. I know that there is already a Transportation on the Isle of Wight page but I suggest this topic requires a dedicated article. I would be open to suggestions but unless there are any objections I will create this page and get it started using the references that I have. War Use[edit]

A number of ferries served as minesweepers, although I believe that the ferries in the 60s were designed to be used as minelayers in wartime, but my only source was a verbal one when I was on a submarine course at Gosport. CAn anyone source this better?--Streona (talk) 09:03, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New Ships[edit]

Anybody got a source for the name FastCat Portsmouth? It looks a bit silly, firstly as the link was incorrect (have changed appropriately), and also as it is directly above a line stating the new vessels for the Ryde Pier service haven't been named yet! --Peeky44 (talk) 11:54, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
