Lyric and Vie clips fields..[edit]

Linking to You Tube is NOT automaticaly acceptable, particularly given that a lot of clips on it have ambiguous (C) status. Sfan00 IMG 18:25, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Flag, and semi finals[edit]

First, I suggest to put the flag somewhere in the infobox. The flag is always important in the presentation of the songs in the contest, and should be visible. Secondly, it should be noted in the infobox whether the song was voted through to the final, or if it was only in the semi finals.Bib (talk) 20:38, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New parameters[edit]

I've added two new parameters - prev_year and next_year. In the case where the country does not participate in the ESC, like Ireland in 2002, if the prev_year parameter is filled in, it takes the value for the previous year from this parameter. If the prev_year parameter is not present or empty, it subtracts 1 from the present year. The next_year parameter works the same way for the following year/contest.

Something's wrong[edit]

Missing Fields[edit]

Turkvision Song Contest[edit]

Many Eurovision templates have been updated to allow for the Turkvision Song Contest and other similar contests within the WikiProject Eurovision scope. Should this particular template also be updated? This would mean that the field "junior" would be removed and "contest" be introduced. I propose the following contest variables:

I understand that this would need to be thoroughly tested and AWB would be essential to ensuring the necessary changes were made, but is there anybody who would be willing to do this? Image from wikidata[edit]

@IceWelder: Could you possibly undo this edit? It is forcing the image from wikidata into the infobox. Typically the photos should be placed in the prose where they can be explained. Grk1011, could you point me to one or multiple articles where this is causing problems? I'd to look into a fix (such as disabling images when in embedded mode) rather than removing all Wikidata functionality and other changes made. IceWelder [✉] 15:28, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
On Move (The Mamas song) I had to delete the image from the wikidata because I need to have the photo in the Melodifestivalen section (which will look better once I further expand the page). The image field should not be pulling from wikidata as we do not want images in these infoboxes automatically. Grk1011 (talk) 15:42, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Grk1011, thanks for the heads up. I made a minor change that disables images whole when the infobox is embedded, as this rarely produces a good result. What was already possible before that but not documented is that retrieval from Wikidata can be disabled using |fetchwikidata=none. This would have also worked in your specific case. I reverted your change to Move's Wikidata entry for testing, and the article appears as it should now, so I will probably leave the entry as it is. Appearance chronology[edit]

Use of parameters that are also in the song infobox[edit]

The template contains several parameters that are also used in {{Infobox song}}, such as:

  • |image=
  • |caption=
  • |genre=
  • |composer=
  • |lyricist=
  • |language=

On most articles, this template is embedded in {{Infobox song}} so all of that information will already be in there. Is there any use in repeating all of that information in this infobox? It's set up that way because many of the older entries were not singles and only have this entry infobox. It was also done before Infobox Single and Infobox Song were combined into one, so you historically had an infobox for every type. It's not only old pages; also pages like Kazakhstan in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020 only have this entry infobox. I think that in those cases, there's nothing wrong with using those parameters. Optional prev_link and next_link parameters[edit]

Remove trailing non-breaking spaces[edit]

Remove English wikilink[edit]

There is consensus at WikiProject Eurovision to not wikilink the English langauge in accordance with MOS:OVERLINK. Template-protected edit request on 8 April 2022[edit]

This template automatically links the country which is contrary to MOS:OVERLINKING, which says do not link major countries likely to be known to most readers. To comply with this, individual articles could link "minor" countries, but the template should not link all by default which produces United Kingdom in Love Will Set You Free, for example. To editor MB: did look again and sorry, don't see it. The only links to a country in this template are coded to link to either Country in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest or Country in the Eurovision Song Contest. There doesn't seem to be any way that this template can link directly to a country. The documentation clearly explains that any name of a country that is placed in the |country= parameter will link to Country in the Eurovision Song Contest. If you can show me the code to change, or if you place the template code in the sandbox with your proposed change(s), then we can see if this template needs to be altered.
