Dates[edit]

Are these dates correct? They don't match the ones on Rare's official site [1]. SNS 14:05, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think that Rare's list is incorrect. I know they wrote the games, but their list doesn't match others I've found on the web, nor my own recollection (sadly, I'm old enough to have played the titles first time round!). I thought of dropping them a note to check, but their website is missing a "contact us" button (probably to avoid sad fans like me!). If there are any titles in particular that you think are wrong, let me know. Cheers, --Plumbago 14:16, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You can send them mail in the Scribes section. SNS 14:27, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Whether I'll get a sensible answer from this particular forum is up for grabs though!  ;) I may try this way, but I'll also look up my sources again. It's no biggie to change the list anyway. That's the joy of templates I suppose. Anyway, thanks for prompting a fact-check. Cheers, --Plumbago 14:49, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Further to my earlier note, I've compiled a list of dates ...

Title Rare date Ultimate Wurlde World of Spectrum MobyGames CRASH review
Jetpac 1983 1983 1983 1983
PSSST 1983 1983 1983 1983
Tranz Am 1983 1983 1983 1983
Cookie 1984 * 1983 1983 -
Atic Atac 1983 * 1984 1983 1983 (CRASH 2, March 1984)
Lunar Jetman 1984 1984 1983 - (CRASH 1, February 1984, and not 1983)
Sabre Wulf 1984 1984 1984 July 1984 (CRASH 6, July 1984)
Underwurlde 1984 1984 1984 - (CRASH 12, Christmas 1984/January 1985)
Knight Lore 1984 1984 1984 1984 (CRASH 12, Christmas 1984/January 1985)
Alien 8 1984 * 1985 1985 1985 (CRASH 15, April 1985)
Nightshade 1985 1985 1985 - (CRASH 21, October 1985)
Gunfright 1986 1985 1985 - (CRASH 25, February 1986)
Cyberun 1986 1986 1986 - (CRASH 28, May 1986)
Pentagram 1985 * 1986 1986 - (CRASH 29, June 1986)
Martianoids 1987 1987 1987 - (CRASH 40, May 1987)
Bubbler 1987 1987 1987 - (CRASH 41, June 1987)

I've marked the main discrepancies with asterisks. I've included CRASH reviews because they probably give the best independent estimate of release date as they had a strong relationship with Ultimate Play The Game and would always publish reviews as soon as a title was released. Anyway, based on the above, I reckon Rare are wrong on four titles : Cookie, Atic Atac, Alien 8 and Pentagram. I know, from personal experience, that they're definitely wrong on the latter two (having rushed out to buy them at the time). Cookie is almost certainly 1983 because it's a 16K game, and they released all of these first. My list in the template is wrong on Atic Atac (and the ordering of Lunar Jetman and Atic Atac) but otherwise correct as far as I can tell. I'll correct this now.

Regarding the Commodore 64 titles, I've just reordered a couple of those after tracking down review dates for them (although, again, personal experience confirms this). Staff of Karnath I'm not 100% on, but I'm pretty sure it's in the correct year. The disastrous Imhotep was reviewed in a Christmas issue, so may technically be a "year" earlier, but the rest I'm pretty sure about.

Anyway, hope that helps. Cheers, --Plumbago 12:22, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've now moved Imhotep to 1985 as per my comments above. Cheers, --Plumbago 15:59, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup[edit]

This template messes up in my browser (Firefox), it uses only about 2/3 of the length of the box (including the background color). I suggest a redesign similar to Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Navboxes except retaining the sections. TH1RT3EN talkcontribs 19:14, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
