Rihanna has earned numerous awards and honors throughout her career. She has sold over 8.7 million albums in the United States, and over 100 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time.[1][2] Nielsen SoundScan ranked Rihanna as the best-selling digital artist in the US and broke a Guinness World Record with sales of over 58 million digital singles as of 2012.[3][4][1] The singer is the second biggest-selling female artist of all time in the United Kingdom with 11.4 million digital singles, only behind Madonna.[5] Her collaboration with Eminem "Love the Way You Lie" together with "Only Girl (In the World)", "Umbrella" and "We Found Love" are some of the best-selling singles of all time worldwide. Rihanna has been named the top Pop Songs chart artist of the past 20 years by Billboard; the singer has had 34 songs on the chart since her 2005 debut single "Pon de Replay", including nine number one songs and 21 top 10 hits.[6] Since the beginning of her career, in 2005, Rihanna managed to have 12 singles that reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. With this she ties Madonna and The Supremes for the fourth-most leaders in the 54-year history of the chart and is only the seventh artist to reach this feat.[7]

Rihanna has won 7 Grammy Awards[8] including Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for "Umbrella",[9] Best Dance Recording for "Only Girl (In the World)"[10] and Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video for "We Found Love".[8] She is the only female multiple winner of the MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year with her wins for "Umbrella" at the 2007 and for "We Found Love" in 2012 award ceremonies.[11] Her albums Loud and Talk That Talk both won the American Music Award for Favorite Soul/R&B Album in 2011 and 2012 respectively.[12][13] Rihanna also won two consecutive Brit Awards for Best International Female Artist at the 2011 and 2012 accolade ceremonies.[14]

In April 2012, she was placed at number twenty on Time magazine's list of the '100 Most Influential People in the World'.[15] The following month, Forbes ranked Rihanna fourth on their Celebrity 100 list, naming her one the world's most powerful celebrities with earnings of $53 million between May 2011 and May 2012.[16] Huffington Post Canada placed her at number one on the "Pop Power Rankings" in November, 2012.[17] The singer has made a huge impact on the social media too. She is the most popular person on the social network Facebook,[18] has the fourth most followers on Twitter and is the most-viewed female artist on video-sharing site YouTube,[19] putting her atop Forbes list of 'Social Networking Superstars'.[20] Rihanna has seven wax figures of herself at Madame Tussauds Wax Museums in Berlin,[21] Hollywood,[22] Las Vegas,[22] London,[22][23] Sydney,[22] Vienna and Washington D.C..[22][24]

The singer has influenced artists like Rita Ora, who claimed: "I admire Rihanna. She works her ass off. That work ethic and discipline is hardcore."[25] Cheryl Cole said she admires the singer and further commented that: "You know what I love about Rihanna? I know she gets a lot of criticism, too, about what she wears and what she sings about, but she is so free."[26] Selena Gomez said of the singer: "I think she’s very strong and classy. I look up to that. She carries herself very well."[27] Also other artists like Justin Bieber,[28] Ke$ha,[29] and Willow Smith.[30]
