Responding (rather late!) to your comments on the Jerry Brown talk page[edit]

Hello, new editor! I can sure see why you were frustrated with what happened over at Talk:Jerry Brown. I've tried to put together a more helpful response for you over there, to help you connect with people on this site who actually know something about your topics.

Let me apologize that we have not gotten you connected with the right parts of the website yet, and explain a little about what's going on here. We actually do have editors who are interested in the history and perspectives of Native Americans, First Nations, and Indigenous peoples, but they didn't happen to be watching the Jerry Brown talk page at the time you showed up. You can find these more knowledgeable editors over at the talk page for Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Indigenous peoples of North America.

Anytime you are finding that there's nobody else with your background, or nobody familiar with your issues participating here, you can leave a note at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Countering systemic bias, to help other editors identify the gap in coverage. The people on that page may be able to steer you the right direction to find others with your interests.

If you are following the issue of Serra's statue, or the general question of Serra's legacy, please start posting the links on the talk page for Junipero Serra instead. That's where you will find editors who know the topic.

If you are involved in indigenous or Native American affairs, and seeking to provide information to Wikipedia from an advocacy, commercial, or promotional standpoint, you don't want to edit the article itself, as that is considered a conflict of interest. The thing to do in this case is to add your information to the talk page of an article, as background information for other editors. This enables people more familiar with Wikipedia to find some place to work your information in to the encyclopedia, even if it doesn't turn out to be exactly the way you would write it yourself. The important thing is getting solid source material into the footnotes of articles, because that's where serious people look for in-depth information.

(By the way, you may get better results here if you set up an account. An account can enable you to get e-mails, and this shows other editors that you are serious about collaborating with them.)

All the best, and sorry about the rough start! I'll try to patch things up a bit over at Talk:Jerry Brown. ... --Djembayz (talk)
