Suggestive IP

Aksi:

Have a look at the contribs of 70.113.114.144 (talk · contribs), based in Austin, Texas. Since it seems to be a residential IP, we may be seeing Kelkar using his home PC instead of the lab PCs, which I understand have been blocked. Hornplease 20:27, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Block Notice

I find that you had blocked User:Gitraffe but notice was not placed on his page. I talked with him and it was taken against me - talking with a user blocked indefinitely. I would suggest that when you indefinitely block any user, please place a suitable notice on the user page and the talk page to avoid misunderstanding. Image deletion

Image in question

Hi! Could you please not remove the image in 7 days counting from 14th April? I am in the process of contacting rgarfias@uci.edu (site where the uploaded image is situated) to know the actual source/copyright violation). Please reply on my talk page.--Scheibenzahl 14:45, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

See the talk page of Image.--Scheibenzahl 15:49, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Hi! Thanks for your comment. Actually, I am more into adding than removing :) So, since the images used in the article are under fair use, I would like to keep them until we get. Bismillah_at_Concert1.jpg is very dark, may be a little photoshopping is needed. If I can improve the image, I will move the image to the information box.--Scheibenzahl 14:10, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Hmmm, you are right. Right now I am a little busy. In a week or two, I will sit through the whole article. Cheers.--Scheibenzahl 05:34, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

After you removed the invalid license, a UK IP came and restored the invalid content to the page. He then asked why the "Pre-Islamic aspect" was removed. This focus is quaint if you consider ParthianShot's focus on "pre-Islamic contents" [1] for that article after he got blocked. I am inclined to think that he dodged his block from that IP. In any case the invalid content has been restored so that is a problem. The Behnam 16:03, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Furthermore, I noticed something in this upload log [2]. Go to January 8th. He uploads works by Shapour Suren-Pahlav (the guys who runs CAIS) with edit summary "Author's own work." Just passing this along to you as it adds to the suspicion. The Behnam 17:12, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for taking care of that. I'll notify you if I see anything else. By the way, the "MedianLady" was amusing. The Behnam 20:08, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Also, should I restore the non-problem versions? The Behnam 20:54, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Additions required in Sarasvati river article

I urge you to put back again paleogeography section in the article. I have written about hindunet.org link which contains much more details about paleogeography section as confirmed by the opoosite side editors. Once this section is placed in the article then one can provide more additions using that link. WIN 10:07, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Sorry to butt in: The hindunet page is a mess. The usable information in it is buried, and would need a skilled editor to extract. However, most if not all of such material properly belongs to the article on the Ghaggar-Hakra river. The Saraswati River article is about the river mentioned in the RgVeda, and has no need of the long rambling screeds on palaeography and whatnot that WIN (talk · contribs) wants to insert in his crusade to bloat articles into mind-numbing, English-mangling incoherence. rudra 21:39, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

When archelogical experts agree with dried Sarasvati river being Ghaggar Hakra river, then whom should be believed ? Your POV ( based on some linguists negating it despite they being incapable to judge so ) or archelogical experts ?

You are wrong while telling above that "The Saraswati River article is about the river mentioned in the RgVeda".

Sarasvati river is also mentioned in Yajurveda and Atharvaveda, Brahmanas, Mahabharat etc. sanskrit texts ( as mentioned in the article page ). So, do you want to assume that composers were talking about Helmund River ? If yes then tell your reasons. If No, then paleogeography section should find place as it's about Sarasvati river ( and not Rig-Vedic Sarasvati river ! ) WIN 09:19, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Images uploaded by you

I have some copyright concerns about all images uploaded by you. Most of them have been released under PD or GFDL. I would like you to go through the images you have uploaded (a list can be found here) and add proper image descriptions. For example, this image created by you needs a source (how it was made, using which software, etc.) so that it can be verified whether the license is true. For the images you have uploaded from the cais website, I have some concern that they may be copyright violations. This is not your fault, but a fault of whoever owns the website. Also, if the images are genuinely owned by CAIS, you need to follow the procedure listed here, i.e. forward your correspondence to wikipedia where a person will verify the permission and assign an OTRS ticket to the images. If this process is not followed, then the images may be soon deleted from wikipedia. - Aksi_great (talk) 09:35, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Those images that I have created a note added (Image created by using Microsoft Paint), and those were used CAIS, I really don't need to provide you with any emails from them, as they have mention license at the bottom of the each page attributed to them. So simply click on the URL shortcut, and read the permission. With regard to copyvio, and CAIS, that is not my problem as you stated yourself; -best thing is that you take your concerns to the website owners – However, as MedianLady suspected, I also believe that you and Fullstop are in direct communication (via email) with each other. However, that does not bother me. What bothers me that you have block me on the bases of one revert, but you did not block Fullstop for doing the same! However, to help you not to fall to his trap again, you should understand his agenda here. Full stop is a traditionalist and a member of Zoroastrian-Orthodoxy group in India who is opposing any conversion. The mentioned website, is the biggest threat to their reactionary belief system, and since its’ founders are promoting such a conversion; he and alike are doing their best to undermine their credibility. However, I’m sure you going to bombard me with various Wiki-abbreviations and shortcuts, but to rest assure, that would not bother me at all – since this is the last day that I am contributing to Wikipedia, since I have life beyond spending on Wiki! ← ← Parthian Shot (Talk) 10:04, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
The images are your problem as you uploaded them. I said you weren't at fault. As for the issue of religion and nationality, it is best if you keep your insinuations to yourself. Do not bring silly caste, religion and nationality related issue to wikipedia. If you are not bothered by wikipedia rules, it is best that you do not edit wikipedia. - Aksi_great (talk) 10:12, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
Please read my response once again - obviously you misunderstood me or trying to evade my comments! I said CAIS copyvio is not my problem, not the images that I have uploaded here. Also I have never brought up Nationality and religion matter, but I said I believe you and Fullstop are exchanging email outside Wikipedia – see the above! Also, how can I question his religion while I am a Zoroastrian myself? However, I do question his fundamentalism beliefs; Fundamentalism is a form of reactionary look at the religion, it is a product of naïve and closed-minded people, and one of its’ modern consequences is terrorism! - therefore, fundamentalism is not a religion. Please next time pay attention, and then respond. ← ← Parthian Shot (Talk) 14:16, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Article SHPS

I began an article tonight. About a company in Louisville Ky. It was tagged as spam not 5 minutes after I started and then a user completed the speedy deletion not long after I had put a contest up. I was expanding the article and neutralizing it making sure the NPOV was followed. This is a locally notable company. I had tagged it to the Louisville Wiki Project Page and Rated it as a Stub for review and expansion. This WAS NOT SPAM. I resent the fact that this is done befor people can finish starting an article. Any help here would be appreciated. M-BMor 09:06, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

A new wiki just for India

www.indianotebook.org/wiki

Hey Aksi, I noticed that you were interested in editing India articles. I just wanted to tell you about a new wiki that a friend and I have created called India Notebook, the url of which is above. A description of our site is as follows (copy-pasted from the main page): About Us: The ultimate aim of India Notebook is to document each and every little thing in India. From shops to restaurants to your local paanwalla in your hometown, India Notebook will have an entry on it so that anytime you find yourself wanting to go to, say, a new restaurant in your town, just log on, search for restaurants in your town and browse away. All we need is a little help from you. Just add all your favourite hangouts, restaurants etc etc and slowly but surely, we will have documented everything there is to see and do in India for anyone to reference, anywhere and anytime. Soon a visitor to Bombay will be able to simply come here and check out the hottest clubs, best eateries and coolest Museums without buying a guidebook. Anything and everything you want to know about a city will be right here, written by the locals.

Come and contribute. Review your favourite pubs/restaurants so that people get up-to-date information about any place in india from the locals. And also tell any friends of yours who edit wikipedia to come help out here. We're also thinking of integrating Google maps into the site, so that you can view the location of any place described on the site.

Don't hesitate to contact me at chaita@gmail.com

Also notice that this new service does not detract from, but builds upon wikipedia's already outstanding contribution. It is merely a wiki specific to the smaller things in life like where do I get Paan in a new city.

Screenshot deletion

Hi. You seem to be eager to mark all screenshots of Hunter x Hunter tv series as having no source and delete them. A lot of them are deleted already, the rest I'll try to save or re-upload. I am not a newcomer to Wikipedia and I know how proper license and source tagging is important, but I can hardly understand what more can you ask for if it is already stated that "image X is a screenshot from series Y episode N". This already gives an easily verifiable source, yet you put a "no source" template. Please explain the meaning of your actions. Thanks in advance. --Ru.spider 09:50, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Aksi, The infobox on the Gujart wiki needs to be updated with the recent changes on the WP:IIJ to make the new locator map show up. Here is a related discussion. I had been discussing with Saravask about creating a translation page to make the template easily portable to other wikis. But that had a negative effect of slowing down the template. So it is best to do translation at the local wikis. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 20:44, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Deleted images

Ah, what just happened to the images you deleted? I don't recall seeing the image pages tagged to dispute their copyright status, nor did I see a discussion about them. Could you point me in the right direction regarding this situation? I'm referring to Image:Cyrus_the_Great_Winged_Figure.jpg, Image:Cyrus-the Great Tomb.jpg, and Image:Cyrus pasargad 2500.jpg. ♠ SG →Talk 15:43, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Oh, I see. Thanks for the info. However, according to the Iranian Law for Supporting Authors, Composers, and Artists, photographs become public domain 30 years after publication date. Since Image:Cyrus pasargad 2500.jpg is from 1971, it should now be PD. So, could we get that one undeleted? I have no idea where the rest of the photos came from, but I'm going to shoot an email off to the CAIS and see if they can clarify their image sources. ♠ SG →Talk 17:10, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I see what you mean, but it is at the very least worth trying. If we can get a proper source for even a single photograph, that's one more image added to the Wikimedia library.
As for the "2500" image, That photo is from the 2,500 year celebration of Iran's monarchy, which took place during October 1971. Can I prove it was actually published before 1977? No, I can't exactly rush out to my local library, fetch copies of Iranian magazines and newspapers from October 1971 and scan them for that photo; but doesn't it seem rather ridiculous to you that such a photograph would be taken and held for 36 years before first publishing it? ♠ SG →Talk 17:55, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Aksi, man, it is virtually impossible to obtain evidence of the image's publication date without the proper resources (access to a library of 30-36 year-old Iranian magazines). You are being very unreasonable. How can it not be safe to assume that the image was in fact published in 1971, or even within the following five years? It is the only way that we can use this image, or ANY from the 2,500 year celebration for that matter. ♠ SG →Talk 03:48, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
I think it's pretty safe to say that your photos from 1920 are not of a massive celebration with invitees including dozens of heads of states and royalty from around the globe. The quality of these images leads me to believe that it was professionally taken (unlike Georg Morgenstierne's photographs, who was one of the invited guests), and thus it makes no sense to pay for a professional shoot, but not publish the photos when everyone in the world wants to see them.
To bring it into a more recent context, how much are magazines willing to pay for photographs of a famous couple's new baby? If they obtained such photos, would they hold onto them for several years before publishing them? ♠ SG →Talk 04:01, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
No worries, I'm not taking it personally; I was just hoping to sway your opinion. I guess I'll give DRV a shot, but I doubt I'll have any luck. ♠ SG →Talk 04:11, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Well, it's worth trying. Thanks for the tip. ♠ SG →Talk 04:20, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Shortly before you got back I let Nirav know, but I imagine he has more than enough to do these days. I was reverting to an earlier version of the Xerxes I of Persia article, and was initially unable to do so - spamfilter blocked it. Actually, I have many of several of these articles on my watchlist, and that's how I saw your edits. May I suggest not tagging the statements while removing the CAIS citations, if there is anything controversial or irreverent in there, the regular users will detect it and tag it. :) --Mardavich 06:55, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
Thank you, I will. As a matter of fact, I already noticed that on a few articles like Iran, but others beat me to it by removing the links. --Mardavich 07:01, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

I have made a few changes, but the article is still pathetic, since every thing is very famous and well known in nadiad, God why dont people write novels instead of encyclopedia. Once more

Hi Aksi, I need some help from you again. Remember Nikkul (talk · contribs) who you caught in early March sockpuppeteering on the Talk:India page. Well, he was blocked for a month (on March 10, 2007) and is now back in action (and nothing wrong with that). Except there there are also a bunch of new-ish users, whose accounts were all created in mid-to-late-April (soon after Nikkul's block must have expired); they all seem to have an similar obsessive quality about their edits and they are all active on the India and talk:India page, where things are hotting up a little again again around the same issue (removing an image and adding new images). These users are , Universe=atom (whose contributions can be seen here: Universe%3Datom (talk · contribs)), Johnsmithcba (talk · contribs) and KnowledgeHegemony (talk · contribs). The first two voted together once on the India notice board here, although the second one has lately not been active. The first and third have supported each other to make edits on the India page (for example here). From time to time they pretend to disagree (I think, a kind of game playing to create the impression that they are different individuals), but overall the agenda and the obsessiveness is similar. They have been warned, for example, here and here (see my second post in this section), but have feigned ignorance (but, then, so did Nikkul). They seem to have a division of labor of sorts: Nikkul attends to the images; U=a to copy-editing (not all bad, but often over the top), and KH to "organizing" stuff. I think KH, U=a, and Johnsmithcba are the same people; whether they are Nikkul is a little harder for me to figure out, but that remains my suspicion. What do you think? About your bot

Your bot keeps on listing: Image:Albert Manning, sadly watchin his son leave.jpg as orphaned when it is clearly used in the Albert Manning article. --Xallium (talkcontribs) 17:11, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Problem?

Hi. I notice that you've been creating description pages for many images uploaded on commons. There is no need to do that. All of these empty images will be deleted under WP:CSD#I2.

Hm...well, I've been adding categories to certain images so that they appear on the Category:Religious symbols page. I'm not sure what you mean about "empty images"... –Frater5 (talk/con) 21:38, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

... could use an update, if you have a chance. I checked out all the articles before I added them to "next update", and they all look pretty well referenced, just so you know. Yours, Smee 09:17, 26 May 2007 (UTC).

  • Thank you for your time. Yours, Smee 09:48, 26 May 2007 (UTC).
    • Did you credit all the article talk pages, and article creators/expanders and nominators? Sometimes I help out with that, but I saw you cleared all the "credits" section of the Next Update page, so I assumed you did all of them... Smee 09:53, 26 May 2007 (UTC).
      • In that case, yea, they were all nominators. Well, for someone who hasn't done it in a while, you did a great job! Thanks! Smee 09:58, 26 May 2007 (UTC).
  • FYI, you might not be around by then, but the next update is ready, for switching to DYK in 6 hours or so.  :) All the articles look to be pretty well sourced, so we're all good. Later, Smee 10:36, 26 May 2007 (UTC).
