Thanks for your wikification of the Yechezkel Sarna article - it really needed an overhaul what with the tedious language and numerous Hebrew words. Your edit(s) spurred me on and I have added to the great improvements you made. With thanks Nesher 14:01, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello friend. You were the first to greet me in Wikipedia and I have trekked many miles of Wiki pages since then. Today I am seeking a RfC from User:Woggly but have been told that it has not been filed. Could you kindly assist me in filing this RfC and being free of her open and destructive harassment / slander. Aide à toute détresse Quart Monde

[edit]

hello & thanks for your comments. I did not ad more info in the pages I created because I thought that the external link would be sufficient. I'am a political scientist and I run with other researchers and students a kind of "encyclopedia of humanitarian NGOs". It's both in French and English and you can visit our methodology on http://www.observatoire-humanitaire.org/index_us/mode.htm As our presentation (especially the chronology) is a little different from Wikipedia articles, I thought it wouldn't be a proper thing to just copy the text of our website. That's why I simply put the link. Now what would you suggest? 1) I just add the external link of our website in existing Wikipedia articles on humanitarian NGOs? 2) I carry on creating new articles with the external link? Copy the text of our research? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Perouse (talkcontribs)

Wikify template

[edit]

Hi, Bachrach44. I don't think that the wikify template is meant to be substituted. I can't find any specific notice about it, but I would say that less than 1% of all of the articles that I've wikified have had substituted wikify templates. Also, it is not listed on Wikipedia:Template substitution. Finally, it makes it more difficult for those of us who wikify, especially when there are two, three or even four types of substituted cleanup tags on the article and it becomes a mess of code. I'll ask about it to verify that it should not be substituted and about listing it under the "templates not to substitute" on Wikipedia:Template substitution and/or adding a notice to the wikify template and category about it. Thanks, Kjkolb 11:18, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How shall we rename that article? "the First" makes little sense. Any ideas? - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 19:15, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No way disambig page. 18th Century R' Moshe was way obscure. Anyone search for "Moshe Teitelbaum" will be looking for the freshly dead one, guaranteed. Suggest leaving M.T. as is and changing the old MT to Moshe Teitelbaum (18th Century rabbi), and putting in, this
This article is about the previous Satmar Rebbe. For the 18th Century rabbi from Sátoraljaújhely, see Moshe Teitelbaum (18th Century rabbi) - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 20:07, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(Bringing over from my talk page...)
I noticed this discussion on my watchlist and it caught my eye. Sorry if this is an intrusion. What is often done is to use dates to distinguish the two articles. For example, they could be renamed to Moshe Teitelbaum (1759-1841) and Moshe Teitelbaum (1914-2006). Or base it on location / affiliation Moshe Teitelbaum (Ujhel) and Moshe Teitelbaum (Satmar). It might not be pretty, but there's no way to distinguish them by profession, as is often done. Moshe Teitelbaum would then be a disambiguation page. Alansohn 21:20, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Better. I propose Moshe Teitelbaum and Moshe Teitelbaum (1759-1841) and still no disambig. Opine, and if you agree, I'll do it. - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 21:24, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect. I'll have MT redirect to MT(S) and make MT(U). Thanks. - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 21:46, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Contemporary Orthodox rabbis

[edit]

Thanks for the feedback. I've long thught that such universally accepted, famous and great Jewish Rabbis such as the Vilna Gaon shouldn't be lumped together with modern Rabbis such as Sacha Pecaric (no offence intended to the latter).

Ummm... I'm not sure what to call the main section now - but shall we establish other breakdowns such as Medieval Rabbis, Pre World War 2 Rabbis, etc etc?

Also, another issue is defining "contemporary" Rabbis. In this very new venture I've de facto defined that as living Rabbis - but shall we add relatively recent Rabbis like Rabbi Moshe Feinstein - who many vividly remember. The only problem is that the distinction becomes blurred and it's harder to draw the line.

I was thinking of lumping "contemporary" Rabbis with all Rabbis who've been active only since WW2, even if they were alive before it. This would exclude people like Rabbi Moshe Feinstein but still include many dead Rabbis. What say you to all this? Nesher 17:53, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please move discussion to Category talk:Orthodox rabbis. --Shuki 20:51, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Freedom Plaza

[edit]

Regarding the Freedom Plaza date, I see what you mean about conflicting information. Doing a Google search on "Freedom Plaza" and "time capsule", I came up with 2088 and 2008. It seems, based on this page that Freedom Plaza is run by the National Park Service, but I'm still kind of fuzzy on that detail. I also combed through file photos of mine of the plaza to see if I could find signage that confirms whether it's operated by the Park Service or the city, and came up empty. Next time I go up that way, I'll try to establish who runs the site.

Either way, though, I would think that whoever operates the site, be it the National Park Service or the DC government, would be the one who would have the definitive answer on that.

My gut feeling, though, is that 2088 is probably correct, since 100 years makes more sense than 20 years. SchuminWeb (Talk) 22:17, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Subst

[edit]

When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. --Cyde↔Weys 22:30, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reindeer...

[edit]

Just my two cents on the Santa's reindeer pages that popped up. Notable yet, but are they encyclopedic enough to warrant their own articles? Who knows. I would suggest grouping them together and taking it to AFD for the community to decide, they may decide to merge them all into one article. Batman2005 00:20, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have some really encyclopedic information I am gathering on them. Like the origin of their names, their mythic history, etc. If that's not encyclopedic enough maybe we should take it to the community. I would love to hear any ideas you have on those pages, but please post them on my talk page so I'll see them right away! --Merond e 05:26, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bachrach44 said, "I'm afraid I don't know a whole lot about the reindeer (seriously, I've never even heard of Robbie, and most of my knowledge comes from the hilarious song The Night Santa Went Crazy)" I don't know if you know this or not, but I didn't make the Rudolph or Robbie articles, nor did I suggest them. I just put links to them in my link tables to help navigation. Just thought I would clear that up. --Merond e 10:25, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Auxilliary/ Auxiliary

[edit]

Thankyou for correcting my spelling in the article MV Mairangi Bay. I was convinced you were wrong when I first saw it, I have always spelt it that way. It took several looks at several dictionaries to convince me otherwise. I typed the word "Auxilliary" into Google and got 770,000 hits and thought ah-ha! Until I typed Auxiliary and got 64,300,000 hits. I see it appears in Wikipedia's list of common spelling mistakes as well, so I don't feel too bad. Even Word spell check does not pick it up! Mind you, I may have added it to the custom dictionary and not remembered, convinced Microsoft was wrong (well, that's not unusual is it?). Now I need to correct MV Resolution Bay...
