Just thought I'd say thanks for the c/e on the page. I have to say my grammar and spelling isn't brilliant. So thanks Bazonka! -FeuDeJoie (talk) 19:23, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinates on meta[edit]

Here you go: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Coord Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 23:35, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Andy. Now you started the ball rolling, I've managed to amend it so that it displays dms coordinates which I much prefer. Any ideas how it can be amended to display in the title as opposed to inline? Bazonka (talk) 09:08, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Actually on second thoughts, I think it works better inline. You'll see that I've added the template to the forthcoming Meetup articles. Bazonka (talk) 09:36, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've reverted you; only the decimal format can be made machine-readable (the reason {{Coord}} on Wikipedia is so complex is it sorts all that out behind the scenes), and I plan parent template for event info, which will make use of that. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:43, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean by "machine-readable" in this context? Which machines would need to read the Meetup articles? Geohack seemed to work perfectly well with the dms coords. Bazonka (talk) 13:09, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It emits a Geo microformat, and we'll be able to include it in templates for venues (hCard) and events (hCalendar) microformats, so that people can download them, including the coordinates, to their calendars, address books, GPS-enabled devices, etc. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:26, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I hope it can be improved. It just doesn't look at good. Bazonka (talk) 22:35, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Continental landmasses[edit]

Does the area figure given for the Australian continent include New Guinea and Tasmania? Jeffrey (202.189.98.142) (talk) 09:28, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No it doesn't - it's just mainland Australia only, which is effectively an enormous island. Tasmania and New Guinea are listed separately in the article. Bazonka (talk) 12:42, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Then the map next to it is bit misleading. It got Tasmania with it. We should perhaps add a footnote that peripheral islands, such as the British Isle, Vancouver Island, Newfoundland, Japan, Long Island, are excluded from the area figures of the continental landmasses. Jeffrey (202.189.98.142) (talk) 13:17, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think that the caption to the map, and the text above the table already cover this adequately. Bazonka (talk) 15:16, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Words like 'Americas', 'Afroeurasia' are meant to include peripheral islands such as Japan, the British Isle, Newfoundland, and Vancouver Island. The paragraph above the table doesn't clarify that. Jeffrey (202.189.98.142) (talk) 23:03, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Where is "the British Isle"? Bazonka (talk) 23:29, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The British Isles. Sorry for the typo. Jeffrey (202.189.98.142) (talk) 01:01, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a few extra words to clarify the position. Bazonka (talk) 08:11, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Jeffrey (202.189.98.142) (talk) 16:13, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mea culpa[edit]

Please accept my apology for the error in this article International recognition of Kosovo. I try to be quick. The mistake was really ridiculous. Irvi Hyka (talk) 14:44, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Meridian naming[edit]

The named meridians are proper nouns and like "Mountains" in Rocky Mountains and Pole in South Pole is capitalized, Meridian in Paris Meridian should be kept capitalized. I started a talk at Talk:Meridian (geography)#Dubious page moves. HTML2011 (talk) 21:47, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You sometimes say, if there a more things name Abc Classname, then the class name should get lower case, because the term is not a proper name. But only because there are several George Rose or several Black River these are still proper names, albeit ambiguous ones. Compare:

  • a black river - descriptive
  • Black River - defined rivers by that name, it doesn't matter there are many.

There may be reasons for lower casing, but ambiguity is not a valid one in the English language. HTML2011 (talk) 20:03, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you telling me all this? Bazonka (talk) 21:30, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Because I would like to convince you that "Abc Classname" (e.g. "Black River") is the way to go, independently of how many things are called "Abc Classname" - if "Abc Classname" is a proper name of one member of the class named "classname". Black River (proper name) is one river (classname). HTML2011 (talk) 01:20, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm surprised that you are lecturing me on capitalisation, when I voted as follows: [1], [2], [3], [4], and [5]. Bazonka (talk) 07:50, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Documents on the Persian Gulf's name : the eternal heritage of ancient time[edit]

Hi. the book and atlas itself is an academic work but translation into English is poor . but first you didnot mentioned according to which principal it should be deleted . is it not allowed to introduce an Academic work in wikipedia? if the policy is that then i will not protest deletion. but as far as i looked at arabian sea edite history i found that you sensitive or sympathies to the issues of Arabian sea. first you had refused to accept that there are other names for the Arabian sea on the maps and books and try deleting the alternative names. yes my field of study and research is a little bit similar to Dr. Ajam but he is also a famous linguist but i am not. HE is this [6] and i am another scholar and i will announce my name and my pages in net soon and maahmaah is publisher of the books by Ajam. so please consider it in your. 09:11, 2 May 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Basp1 (talkcontribs)

Speedy deletion declined: County of New York University[edit]

Hello Bazonka. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of County of New York University, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: -db: not a valid csd. Has been created by AfC process, so someone thought they're useful. In case of doubt please sent it with the others to WP:RFD, the process for redirects. Thank you. Persia-Portugal War[edit]

  • Dear bazunka i do not know if you are a historian or not your judgement on the issue should be according to your knowledges. in Persia–Portugal war one side is Iran and other side is Portugal, also British was engaged so sources from both side should be included whether it is favour or against. i just translated the text from persian page: [7]

you can edite but do not delet. Maahmaah 05:24, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

Maahmaah, I have had a go at copyediting your addition to the article, but unfortunately your standard of English is so bad that it is very difficult to bring it to the quality necessary for Wikipedia - it's unclear what you're actually trying to say. The main problem that I have with your editing is that you can make a good article look terrible (case in point: History of timekeeping devices, which was a Featured Article, i.e. top, top quality, and has taken a lot of work to bring it back to a half-decent standard following your edits). This is not to mention the POV-pushing, and shameless self-promotion of your book, which you link to at every possible opportunity. I am sure your editing is done in good faith, but you really should understand that this is an English-language encyclopedia, and a good understanding and application of English grammar, spelling and punctuation is needed, as well as a need for reliable references. Sorry for my harsh words; this is not intended as a personal attack. Bazonka (talk) 07:16, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tropical plants[edit]

Hello, How are you? I need your help. I thank you your help in the articles and I hope you help me again in future. I ask you: Can you find more people willing writing in tropical trees, genera and families? I ask you if you could enlarge some articles making better known this group of trees in Wikipedia, adding links to genera and families and writing information and asking people if they are interested in writing about topics as tropical trees articles, tropical forest articles or botanical or biodiversity articles. Do you know Wikipedia forums that could be interested about these type of articles? They are welcome too. I thank you very much.

I am from Spain and my mother language is not English language. Many country side areas, and Natural areas and Living beings are in Countries where population cannot collaborate with Wikipedia, but their Natural World and its highly economically valuable species are very important too in the human knowledge and developtment of the mankind. People should have information because these matters are important, not just a curiosity only. This unknow world is from Poles to ecuator, in unoccupied oceanic areas closely to Europe, in Deserts as Sahara, or whatever. But to me the main aim is to gather the abundant information disperse about living communities and living beings that have existed for millions of years because they are disappearing and in 20 years they will are not longer exist. Curritocurrito (talk) 11:43, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm well thanks. Hope you are too. Trees are not my area of expertise, but I'm sure there are people who'll be able to help you. I suggest you post something on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Plants or possibly Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Forestry. There doesn't seem to be a specific trees project. Cheers, Bazonka (talk) 21:02, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi, thank you very much by to be interested in Tropical flora. I hope in future you will write about this matter so unknow. Best regards. Curritocurrito (talk) 08:25, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
