Thank You!

Thank you for welcoming me to Wikipedia, BrillLyle. Also, I appreciate that you posted some helpful tips that I can apply when completing my edits. --Laki718 (talk) 18:16, 30 June 2016 (UTC)

@Laki718: Thanks so much -- and great job that you figured out how to post on my talk page. Lots of people don't know how to do that and you did it perfectly! Definitely reach out if you have any questions! -- Best, Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 19:04, 30 June 2016 (UTC)

Graph layout

It took me some time to find out how to do it, but this seems to have fixed your graph question. I copied it from one of the examples at mw:Extension:Graph/Demo. Huon (talk) 20:28, 3 July 2016 (UTC)

@Huon: Thank you so much! Sorry I went off the IRC I thought no one was there.... I will check out the Demo page. So incredibly helpful. I had looked but missed that... Thanks again!!! - Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 20:52, 3 July 2016 (UTC)

Sunday July 10, 3-8pm: WikNYC Picnic

You are invited to join us the "picnic anyone can edit" in Manhattan's Central Park, as part of the Great American Wiknic celebrations being held across the USA. Remember it's a wiki-picnic, which means potluck.

3–8pm - come by any time! The picnicking area is the southwest section of the Great Lawn, north of the Delacorte Theater, just inside the park at Central Park West between 81st & 82nd. Enter the park at West 81st St.
Look for us by the Wikipedia / Wikimedia NYC banner!
Subway: 81st Street – Museum of Natural History, C Line

We hope to see you there! --Pharos (talk) 14:55, 5 July 2016 (UTC)

Friday morning in Harlem

I definitely plan to attend but the question I have, do you need tickets to attend Friday's event in NYC? VegasCasinoKid (talk) 06:27, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
Hi @VegasCasinoKid: -- No ticket required at all! Just show up -- look for Richard et al. They will have the big white Wikimedia NYC sign so people can find the picnic area. Bring food and drink if you want, especially if you have any special dietary etc. needs. Have fun! -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 06:30, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
Oh wait -- You're talking about the editathon at the Schomburg on Friday? Ugh it looks like it might be sold out -- from Eventbrite? I'm so sorry. -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 06:36, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
If it's "sold-out" then it seems you do need to ticket to enter that event. At least the Sunday event will be free.  :) VegasCasinoKid (talk) 08:08, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
Hi @VegasCasinoKid: -- I am sorry about this. On the Eventbrite page it says: "FIRST COME, FIRST SEATED For free events, we generally overbook to ensure a full house. All registered seats are released 15 to 30 minutes before start time, so we recommend that you arrive early." Maybe you could try to either contact Alice or Sherry from AfroCROWD or try to go early and ask to be on whatever standing room / wait list there might be. You might be able to still get in. I know the goal is to have as many attendees as possible, but it might be a space issue as this is a popular event. Good luck, and again, sorry. - Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 13:40, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
I wouldn't be surprised if it were a simple error in setting up the event in Eventbrite and there's plenty of chairs in that large room. Jim.henderson (talk) 14:07, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
Hi @Jim.henderson: Possibly but it looks like that event is going to be very busy and popular, so there may not be space even in the big room. Trying standby might work but they need to make sure it's not overcrowded -- it would not be safe or enjoyable if there were too many people. Best bet would be to show up early and do standby after reaching out ASAP to ask to be put on any waitlist -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 14:55, 7 July 2016 (UTC)

Wiknic

I had a blast on Sunday. I look forward to the next one. VegasCasinoKid (talk) 08:09, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

@VegasCasinoKid: Glad to hear it! -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 14:00, 11 July 2016 (UTC)
I never want to baby castles near union square but am willing to try it next month. it seems babycastle haven't decided which day they are willing to host the meetup. VegasCasinoKid (talk) 09:49, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
@VegasCasinoKid: I would say that it's the WM NYC Board being the culprit on not organizing the dates versus anything to do with Babycastles. Babycastles have been lovely, accommodating, amazing. We are lucky to be able to meet there regularly. Summer is a bit looser for our chapter so that's why the dates are a bit late in coming. We should have info within the week. Best, -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 11:11, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

Truly, thank you! If you're feeling up for it, I noticed that some of the issues on the Parker page are also coming up at the related film page and so might benefit from having your eyes on; but after making a few edits on this, I myself am ready to exercise a bit of WP:NOTREQUIRED so no pressure! Thanks again for all you've already done. Innisfree987 (talk) 20:33, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you for your help on Wikipedia:Meetup/SCAR_2016! Getting all the outcomes organised is really useful. I've really no idea how to do wikidata stuff! It has been wonderful seeing this project come together. T.Shafee(Evo&Evo)talk 16:50, 24 August 2016 (UTC)

@Evolution and evolvability: Hope all of that was okay. I do a lot of scrubbing for edits for Wikimedia NYC events (I'm Secretary of WM NYC) and helped a bit with the Art+Feminism initiative the last couple years (until I stopped) so I am a bit obsessed with gathering outcomes, especially in support / preparation for event metrics. It helps to have numbers for grant-purposes, too, even if it's just headcount, pages improved, pages created. Agree, the project is totally kick ass, totally reflects all the hard work of your community! :-)
re: Wikidata.... I am a real newbie when it comes to Wikidata too! Don't worry everyone is pretty much new to it, it seems.... I though it was important to recognize that these Wikidata edits were part of your initiative's outcomes. At WM NYC we have been starting to count Wikidata edits for editathons at NYC events so...
So excited for you! Please let me know if you need any assistance. I love what you all are doing! -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 17:59, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
It is absolutely ok! The editing help is really appreciated, especially in outcomes gathering. One of the great joys of Wikipedia is coming back to a page and seeing it improved overnight! I may well take you up on your offer of more help in the next month for advice on the best ways to keep momentum up after an editathon. I think the SCAR conference this week has got a lot of new people interested, so I'm going to host another training webinar in how to edit next month to bring in some more recruits. There also seems to be a lot of interest in helping by the Polar Educators International organisation. I'm hoping that the biographies editathon can be a gateway towards improving articles on Antarctic geography, history and science in general. T.Shafee(Evo&Evo)talk 04:32, 25 August 2016 (UTC)
@Evolution and evolvability: That sounds amazing. Oh good! Please revert anything you don't want and/or let me know and I can course-correct. I truly only want to help / don't want to be a pain. I sort of stumbled upon SCAR when I saw the BBC series on Halley Research Station and think what's going on in terms of science is just so flipping cool. There is much that can be done, especially if it comes from your expert community. I think the Women in Red folks are pretty great as a resource, and then the outlier editors like myself. Momentum is key, and empowering folks if they see things like #gendergap and inaccurate, incomplete information. Hope you can get a new picture up. That was super cool. Copyright / images is such a pain sometimes! Best, Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 13:51, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

Yazda

Hi BrillLyle, Can you please try to edit my draft https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Yazda ? It has been denied 4 times and I'm out of ideas how to make it work. Please feel free to add, delete or do anything necessary to make be accepted Khalaf Smoqi (talk) 08:15, 22 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi @Khalaf Smoqi:! I will try to help. Best -- BrillLyle (talk) 11:54, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
Um... you do realize that you can leave drafts in the draft space, right? Primefac (talk) 21:59, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
@Primefac: Yes, I do realize it would be okay to leave the draft in the draft space; however, I wanted to get to a "clean" space so I could work on the page and really get it into good shape. Sorry I would've done more but I got busy. I hope to have it in good shape and work on it this weekend so Monday it might be good to go onto Wiki as a stub. Thanks for the message. -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 23:04, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
Also, if this was going to be something where I would be going back and forth with Khalaf in any sort of info exchange, I didn't want it to be on a draft that might be being scrutinized while we went through the process.... -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 23:05, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
Fair enough (and it's like you've done anything wrong, I was mainly curious). With regard to your final point: an unsubmitted draft that's actively being worked on will be paid (literally) zero attention. It's only the submitted ones that anyone notices ;) Good luck on the page, I tried working on it a while ago and failed, hopefully you'll do it better! Primefac (talk) 23:27, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
@Primefac: Thanks! I am working on an associated page so I hope that will help. Fingers crossed! -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 23:52, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
Nice job, it looks good :) Primefac (talk) 23:38, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
@Primefac: Thanks so much! I spent a lot of time on it -- and it's not done -- but I'm glad it's up and seems to be okay now. Best to you! - Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 23:39, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
