Request reason:

i have read the copyright policy and our policies regarding how to use non-free content and understand that my text additions from https://www.telegraphindia.com/my-kolkata/news/taratala-station-gets-set-for-flag-off/cid/1906546 was against the laws of wikipedia. i was going to structuring them text that would be considered free from copyright violation with the tool https://copyvios.toolforge.org/, but time coupled with minor personal issues like power failure and coordinates (those turned out the culprits) didnt persist me to start it yesterday. i learned to remove copyright using this tool only after my 4 and last violation through a user in december. i aimed to complete it within hour of the next day after waking up. But got this block. I have contributed much to wikipedia in one and a half years. please provide me mercy and pardon for the deeds i did yesterday. some articles are there where i am the only editor and without me they will lose their identity like NASA-ESA Mars Sample Return Mission. <redacted> if am not eligible for being pardoned now, atleast reduce the duration of my block from infinite to 6 months-one year. Chinakpradhan (talk) 05:02, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Declining for a number of reasons: poor English-language proficiency, sending unwanted to pings to an admin below, and because you seem to think that it's OK to upload copyright violations if you fix them eventually. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 17:03, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

i was going to structuring them text that would be considered free from copyright violation is not in compliance with our copyright policy. You should never under any circumstances copy content from a copyrighted source into Wikipedia, even if you intend to tweak the text a bit to fool the copyright tool. signed, Rosguill talk 05:06, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
https://copyvios.toolforge.org/ tool says tweaks are non-copyright violations @Rosguill Chinakpradhan (talk) 05:07, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Copyvios.toolforge is a simple tool that checks whether text looks the same as somewhere else. It cannot assess the underlying intellectual property status of information. Your derivation of new text by poking the words around is still a violation of the IP rights even if the copyvio tool won't catch it. Moreover, copyvios.toolforge a tool that relies on a Wikipedia page's existence to work, which means that you've been putting copyright violations into Wikipedia's publicly-viewable history, which is a problem in itself.
Now, copyright law is very confusing, but luckily there is a simple solution to never violating it: do not ever under any circumstances copy text from outside sources under copyright. And if you aren't sure how to identify whether a source is under copyright or not, just change that to: do not ever copy text from outside Wikipedia onto Wikipedia. signed, Rosguill talk 05:24, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
so having known the above by @Rosguill. i would even say i will never even touch a copyrights preserved website or webpage. (i would look for a tool tat tells if the site has preserved copyrights or not). i will never again do these copyright mistakes. But please anybody remove my block or lessen my punishment (i prepared my self to update the List of Ingenuity flights today but all plans slashed away). Chinakpradhan (talk) 06:10, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Rosguill what i minute why are you making dive in grand canyon instead of a nearby shallow pit. You are laying extra false charges on me. I have been writing articles since 1½ years but as I said I just learned it the previous month and did I told you how much I have used it. The answer is 1. This was going to be just the 2nd time, which after your note i have abandoned the plan 100% as it indicated by "i will never even touch a copyrights preserved website or webpage." Sorry for my accent!! (It hurts many) But you have laid a warning single on my whole wikipedia career by this. Please refrain from your words sir. Chinakpradhan (talk) 02:58, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That one addition even was for one line which as you unblock me I will remove it, though in will check once as it exists today likely as nasa's words which is a free website @Rosguill Chinakpradhan (talk) 03:01, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Stop pinging me. Another admin will review your unblock request. signed, Rosguill talk 03:03, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I never want to disturb anyone but I was doing due to "which means that nearly every edit they've contributed is likely copyvio." which I 100% wrong having used just once. There's no fun in pinging someone, especially those who do tons and tons of work both on wiki and outside wiki. @Rosguill (last ever pinging you to tell this) Chinakpradhan (talk) 03:19, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Given your continued pinging of someone who asked you to stop, I've removed your ability to edit this page. You can make an appeal via UTRS by following the below instructions, restore your ability to edit this page. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 16:59, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Comment[edit]

Hello. Just would like to affirm that Chinakpradhan has been a very valuable editor at the Mars 2020 collection, including the Perserverance (rover) and Ingenuity (helicopter) pages. Much of what those pages look like, and what they share with readers, is because of Chinakpradhan's work. I would like to ask for consideration of a lesser ban than indef, because it seems that what's upsetting Chinakpradhan, who has never had a block before, is that they are experiencing this event as their Wikipedia work ending when, hopefully, that is far from the case. Would ask for clarification, and hopefully the block will be reduced to time served, or a week in the slammer, or something closer to a normal first block. Thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 02:35, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Randy Kryn, you're invited to help remove the copyright violations that Chinakpradhan added across those articles; I just spent a half hour addressing the ones at the two articles you linked. I can see from the history that they have made constructive edits beyond just adding copyright violations, but until we can be confident that they actually understand roprcopyright well enough to not repeat their errors, I don't think an unblock is appiate. signed, Rosguill talk 19:33, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Rosguill. What I recall is Chinakpradhan adding dozens of NASA images, which I would think would be in public domain but haven't actually checked. Aside from that, I don't know if I'd recognize a copyright violation, but thank you for taking the time to clear up some of those important articles. My comment above pertains to a first block of an often productive editor being an indef, and hoped that a lesser ban could be applied to relieve some of the anxiety of an addicted, as we all are, Wikipedian being indeffed and not having gone through any type of banning process before. Then a talk page ban because that good faith anxiety became evident in discussions here, and in concerning language I've never seen before on Wikipedia (which should actually be used as an example of the depth of Wikipedia addiction, a real thing). As for Chinakpradhan understanding copyright violations, hopefully that understanding has been further ingrained because of this experience, and nobody can be sure unless they are allowed to both discuss it and have an eventual chance, as an unblocked editor in good standing, to field-test their new understanding. Randy Kryn (talk) 02:04, 4 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not going to unblock an editor that has yet to demonstrate a basic understanding of copyright policy. They're welcome to make a UTRS request to be unblocked. Chinakpradhan, if you're reading this, the answers you need are in the first three sentences of WP:COPYPASTE. signed, Rosguill talk 02:26, 4 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
