Suggestion[edit]

Read WP:3RR. It's a pretty bright line in the sand. Cheers! --Obi-Wan Kenobi (talk) 08:38, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Obi Wan, Thanks for this. I took a look and it's very helpful. There's a great deal of information that seems to have been developed over the course of many disputes. Those are usually the best since they take into account many different scenarios. EddieVega (talk) 08:51, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Quiz[edit]

Hi Eddie. Since I assume you have some way of getting in touch with our famous columnist, I wonder if you might ask her to take the quiz I developed (and you should too) ==> Wikipedia_talk:Categorization/Ethnicity,_gender,_religion_and_sexuality#Correct_categorization_quiz. She can submit her answers here on the wiki, or email them. I warn you, though, it's tough. But I wonder if having her work through this quiz, and actually try to *fully* categorize a real bio, without ghettoizing, either by religion, gender, or ethnicity, would help you and her appreciate the challenges of proper categorization. --Obi-Wan Kenobi (talk) 05:04, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Obi-Wan, I'll take the quiz myself since I think it might prove very helpful in understanding the challenges facing Wikipedia editors, though I do think that for some the real challenge is not with the objective structure of classifications and categories but with not allowing bias to creep into their work. As for the famous columnist, I got in touch with her the way everyone else can. She has an open Facebook page. It is where I first heard about the problems she had encountered on this site. Although we attended the same graduate school, that was over 20 years ago. I had not communicated with her until she began getting attacked here. I wanted to help correct factual errors in articles about her, an exception to COI, even if COI had somehow been implicated by nothing more than a common alumni status. The only person from that time that I stayed in touch with over the years was the novelist Cortright McMeel, and he died recently. Feel free to contact her yourself and send a friend request. Thanks - ok let me know how it goes and how you find the quiz. Remember, you have to spend time looking at the cats she's in, the parents of those cats, the grandparents, and sometimes more - so as to not ghettoize - find which ones are missing.
Don't worry about COI, that was just one editor going overboard IMHO. In any case, her article looks in good shape now and has lots of guardians - I look forward to your future contributions here.--Obi-Wan Kenobi (talk) 06:01, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
