Neighb'rhood Childr'n[edit]

The article List of bands from Oregon is up for deletion, and some of us are in the process of linking the bands in that list to Category:Oregon musical groups or Category:Oregon musicians. I saw you had added Neighb'rhood Childr'n to the list, and I thought they might merit an article. Do you know enough about them to write one? Katr67 18:46, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

I say go for it, if the Internet sources seem reputable. I just love the idea that a psychedelic band from *Medford*, of all places, (or perhaps Phoenix, if I read correctly) sort of made it.

The list got messed up because there was a blanket decision to delete all "List of bands from" articles and it was deleted without being tagged. So it got recreated as a shadow of its former self, then was deleted again. Recently it was restored in order to promote discussion prior to deletion. You might want to check through the history to see if there is anything else that ought to be saved (via an article and categorization) prior to deletion. Thanks for your input! thanks[edit]

Thanks for (your attempt) to do something constructive towards helping with the "bot problem". How file uploads are done at Wikipedia leads to many problems, including these clumsy bots. Even worse than the problems caused by the bots is when Wikipedians start making excuses for the failings of the bots rather than fix the problems. Even worse than that is when the Wikipedians who try to fix the problems are "blown off" and told that there is nothing that can be done about the problems...."you must suffer because this is the result of a bad situation that we cannot control". Such "social momentum" towards accepting the failings of systems is not unique to Wikipedia, but in an open community such as Wikipedia we do have a chance to set things right. I hope you are not discouraged from continuing to discuss the problems of Wikipedia and you keep looking for solutions to those problems and helping the community find ways to reach the solutions. --JWSchmidt 16:38, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

How to properly AfD[edit]

Here are the most basic instructions:

1. Copy {{subst:afd}} into the article you believe should be deleted (you have done this correctly)Symbol confirmed.png
2. Create the page where you will talk about the deletion. (this is what you did wrong)Symbol comment vote.svg

  • When you created the page, you simply typed in the nomination (this was your mistake). You must use {{subst:afd2|pg=pagename|cat=category|text=reason for nomination}}. There is also an option called "Preloaded debate" on the {{afd}} template box, which I think you should use. It is very simple and explains very clearly what to do.

3. Copy the page into today's log (you did this correctly) Symbol confirmed.png

I hope this helps. --Wafulz 01:25, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Recent change to template:F1 cars 1985[edit]

Hi Guroadrunner. How strongly do you feel about your recent change to template:F1 cars 1985 (i.e. changing "which" to "that")? Because all the other "F1 cars by year" templates say "which" (except, I've just noticed, template:F1 cars 2007, which is completely different!). If you're not especially passionate about the change, then I'd probably prefer to see it changed back, so that they're all consistent. (Alternately, if you do feel strongly about the change, then all the others could be changed to match 1985). -- DH85868993 03:10, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm not really fussed either way whether they say "that" or "which"; I'd just like them to all be consistent. If you feel like changing the others, there are only 20 in total - they're all listed in Wikipedia:WikiProject_Formula_One/Related_Pages#Templates. -- DH85868993 04:53, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

to Guroadrunner - please help with pg vandalism to 'Alleycats'[edit]

Dear Guroadrunner,

I'd like to bring your attention to wiki article Alleycats, vandalism has been popping up even as the other editors try to revert (cancel the vandalism). Is there anything that could be done?

Thanks

Your assessment requests[edit]

These three are well written articles, but they need references to get above Start class.

This article needs to be expanded to get Start/B class, it also will need references.

I hope these comments were helpful in some way. Regards, Psychless 17:28, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Yuji Ide[edit]

This article covers his racing career very well and is well referenced. The only problem is it really doesn't tell me much about him as a person, just as a racing driver. It needs some info on his childhood, family, personal life, religion, etc. If you can do that the article would be great, I would peer review it for you. Oh, and if you could find a picture that would improve it as well. Pictures that wikipedia can use are always hell to find though... Regards, Psychless 19:41, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Category:Wikify from December 2006[edit]

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from Category:Wikify from December 2006, which you proposed for deletion, because the page you proposed for deletion was not an article, user page, or user talk page. If you still think the page should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to it, as proposed deletion is only for articles, user pages, and user talk pages. Instead, consider using WP:CFD for this page. In some cases, a speedy deletion criterion may apply. Thanks! KTC 21:22, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject Red Link Recovery[edit]

Hi. I noticed your contributions to WikiProject Red Link Recovery. Please read the instructions carefully. If you handled a case and corrected the link then delete the entry, not just strike it. Keep up the good work. Friendly, Magioladitis 11:59, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi again. While working on Red Link/3 do the following:

When you correct a suggestion, or the red link doesn't exist at the page then delete the entry of the red link/3. (not just strike it).

Strike only cases you can't handle and the suggestion is not correct. We need the exceptions only for not including them at the next time the list is generated.

You don't have to type "no" everytime. "xxxx vs yyyy" would do the job (since the repaired entries are deleted).

Take care with entries with special characters. due to a problem of the generated list some entries appear as red links but there are not. Better don't touch these links or do a further research to fix them.

Your contributions are really helpful. If you follow above suggestions I think we'll cooperate perfectly to finish this project. Friendly, Magioladitis 09:05, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi again. In addition to the things above, when a section is completely empty you can delete it. All the best. -- Magioladitis 01:29, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
You did fine in the last section. Well done! With your help we are really speeding now! -- Magioladitis 11:08, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

About the qubo "Advertisement"[edit]

I am curious why the qubo article was deemed for speedy deletion and labeled an "advertisement."

I did remove the timeslots for the digital network as well as the ratings updates, which I felt were unnecessary for the article. I created the page when the block was called "Smart Place For Kids," and linked to all relevant sources during the life of the article.

Again, just curious. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nemalki (talkcontribs) 05:31, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Malaysia[edit]

Um - I'm a bit surprised. Was it actually you who added a broken title and a single US spelling into the 2007 Malaysian GP article? I've reverted the change. Cheers. 4u1e 09:02, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

<raises eyebrows> With 'Tires' because you're American?! Moving on, I don't think extra headings are needed - the section's only three paras long as it is. If we do want them, many style guides suggest that all material in any section should have headings to keep a logical hierarchy, so I would suggest having 'Testing', 'Customer Cars' and 'Tyres' as the sections. Rather than having extra ===s, you could just bold the headings by putting ';' in front of them. That way they don't clutter up the ToC. I really don't think it would be a good idea though, it would be using headings to do the job of paragraphs (imvho). Cheers. 4u1e 09:41, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
Re Tyres heading: as I say, I'm not that keen on the idea, but they could get their own heading in the way I suggested above, or you could break them out as another top level heading. What do you think about mentioneing the customer car and flexi floor stuff in the lead as well? They're probably as important as the tyres. Glad to hear your thoughts.
Re spelling: It's not so much umbrage as surprise. 'Tires' written mistakenly because that's how you naturally spell it would go without comment. Changing all spellings to 'tires', with a rationale as to why AmEng was the most suitable for this article I would understand, although I'd probably disagree :). What I found a bit hard to swallow was adding just the one 'tire' to an article full of 'tyres', with the explicit reason you gave. Anyway, I apologise if you feel like I've been poking you with a pointy Wiki-stick. I'll stop now. No hard feelings, I hope? Cheers. 4u1e 08:00, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Not a full answer to your points, but one thing to consider is that the flexi floor thing has been raised as an issue at this end of the season as a (supposed) example of how Ferrari are treated differently to McLaren by the authorities. 4u1e 19:25, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Bot request[edit]

Hi Guroadrunner. I saw your message on the bot request page. I think what you are wanting to do wouldn't be too hard to do using AWB. If you don't get a satisfactory response from the bot requests page by the weekend, I'll try to have a crack at it with AWB. (Have you used AWB? I love it. When I think about all those repetitive edits I made manually before I discovered AWB, it makes me want to cry...) Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 04:05, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Looks like Dycedarg beat me to it. DH85868993 (talk) 04:10, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

RE:Thank you[edit]

Your quite welcome. Yes, AWB can be very useful for this sort of thing. By the way, the plugin I used to do that for you can also be used to speed up manual page assessment. You just create a list of articles to be assessed, and it loads them one by one and after you look it over gives you a form to enter the importance, class, and whatever else, after which it updates the project template to match what you put. While I haven't used this aspect of the plugin for myself, it looks like it could make your work a lot easier. If you're interested, get permission to use WP:AWB and the plugin comes with it. Detailed instructions for use are here.--Dycedarg ж 06:19, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Re: Question about AWB[edit]

Hi Guroadrunner. Sorry not to have replied sooner: I'm involved with an arts festival at the moment and it's leaving me very little time for wikipedia. To do what you have described, I think you will need to use the Kingbotk Plugin for AWB, which I haven't actually used myself. I should have some time to have a look at it in a couple of weeks time; but if you're keen to get going before then (which I expect you are), perhaps User:Dycedarg (who processed the {{F1-stub}} articles using the plugin) might be able to help you out? Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 01:45, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Quality assessment[edit]

Hi. I see that you are doing quality assessments on many F1 articles, well done! However, I think you are being too free with the "stub" class. The MoS defines a stub as "an article containing only a few sentences of text which is too short to provide encyclopedic coverage of a subject, but not so short as to provide no useful information". Among others, you recently graded Coppa Acerbo as a stub... The page is over 15k! There are other examples as well. Please make sure that the quality assessment fits the bill before you add it. Pyrope 12:43, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

1995 Australian Grand Prix[edit]

Hi. I'm pretty sure this edit was fully done in good faith, seeing as I haven't worked on the article for a few days, but I am still planning to work on it further. As I don't want to get into a revert war, could you possibly put the underconstruction tag back into the article. I was planning to get back to it midweek when I (probably) will have a few hours spare. D.M.N. (talk) 21:45, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

That's OK. I probably won't get to it by mid-week though as I'm concentrating on 1995 Japan at the moment. D.M.N. (talk) 17:38, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

AWB help[edit]

Here's some instructions on how to make a list of the talk page of every page transcluding {{f1-bio-stub}}:

  1. In the lower left corner you'll see the box labeled Make list. Select the drop down box and set it to What transcludes page
  2. Type "Template:f1-bio-stub" into the box, and click the Make list button
  3. Select the menu at the top of the screen labeled List, click Filter out non-main space to make sure you only have mainspace pages and no project or category pages in your list
  4. Repeat step 3 to deselect it (it has already done it's job and we will be converting from mainspace to talk in the next step this option shouldn't be selected anymore)
  5. Select the List menu again, select Convert to talk pages

If you do those steps as I wrote them above, you will have the list you want. You can then proceed with the tagging. Do you understand the rest of the steps for creating your generic template and starting the tagging process, or did you have other questions?--Dycedarg ж 08:47, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

2006 wikification[edit]

  1. Well done for clearing those lists!
  2. Yes you broke the template, no problem.
  3. To take 2006 of the list just take that off the page itself. But as the instructions say "Old years should not be removed until they have been empty for a few months at least." This is because reversions and undeletions can re-introduce members, and we can see using popups if the cats are empty (even if they don't exist). Having said that, the invalid date category makes this less of a problem.

Conclusions to centralized discussions are either marked as 'policy', 'guideline', 'endorsed', 'rejected', 'no consensus', or 'no change' etc. We should now decide for this discussion.

I may be in over my head here, Guroadrunner . . . .

I was hoping to contribute one of my photos (my work) of Scott Kalitta to his biography page. It seems to be a much more involved process than I thought. Lewis Hamilton etc GAR[edit]

Hi

I have just asked Jacky to take a look at the article for any other work needed after a major rewrite.

One thing I noticed is that it reads very much like a race report with great detail on most of the 2007/2008 seasons - is it ok or should we consider reducing that

Hi again - Just wondered if you wanted any help on the article, I have done quite a bit on three so far and don't want to appear to be "taking over" or "stepping on toes" lol - I'll put the teams in to the career table so at least that's done and Jacky can see progress. F1 stuff[edit]

Hi

Cheers for replying, I'll try and get onto some of Webber's stuff later today. I did spend about 2 hours searching through online refs to try and find out what team he was in for the Career table at the bottom of his page, but it only looks like it's listed as "his own team" in everything that I can find. I managed to find some refs for 95 and 96 and put those in. Hopefully Webber's article isn't too far off now, Jacky did say take as long as we need, and as long as there is some work being done will hold off judgement for a bit longer and there isn't too much wrong with it as far as I can see - just some joining of sentences and tidying up.

Hamilton passed - woohoo !! Jacky said "very good work", that made me happy lol, so we've got Schumi, Andretti and Hamilton through so far.

Villeneuve is a bit of a problem as it's in a bit of a state, but if there's time I'll have a looka t that also.

Speak soon--Chaosdruid (talk) 05:49, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Villenueve & GP2[edit]

Hi

I think that message was from quite a while back - 4u1e and myself did quite a lot of work on his article so I think it's pretty much finished now. 4u1e took over where I left off and he seems to have a different way of writing prose so I sort of left him to it with the knowledge I was there if he needed me. Last thing I saw was that 4u1e was taking some time out and Jacky said mostly done apart from some prose issues which would be addressed later but that it was going to remain good - if so that means we rescued all 5 of them - WOOHOO !!

lol - sry I'll calm down again...anyway as for GP2, nice one, I got a bit bogged down with other things. Afraid I sent my GP2 to my friend in France as he couldnt get GP3 over there at the time and I was feeling generous, sent him everything I'm afraid. Must be somewhere we can get a copy - poss through the old RVT sections - I'll email some of them from the good old days of GP2 racing series.

thanks--Chaosdruid (talk) 14:00, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Just emptied a few boxes out from my loft to try and find the GP3 manual which wasn't in the box, and found it along with the manual for GP2 !!

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better -- thanks for helping.

If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from ForteTuba, SuggestBot's caretaker.

P.S. You received these suggestions because your name was listed on the SuggestBot request page. If this was in error, sorry about the confusion. -- SuggestBot (talk) 20:00, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Theora[edit]

I don't know which OS you're using, or what you consider to be 'easy-to-use'. commons:Help:Converting_video has much information and a few suggested programs for different OSs. -- Consumed Crustacean (talk) 07:56, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Software etc logo.jpg)[edit]

Ambox warning blue.svg Thanks for uploading File:Software etc logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:05, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Articles for deletion nomination of Ghost sign[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

I have nominated Ghost sign, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ghost sign. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Bolko von Richthofen[edit]

After becoming thoroughly confused I have come round to the view that it is almost certain that there are in fact two Bolko von Richthofens - only distantly related to each other - one was the famous Red Baron's little brother - the other an eminent archaeologist with far-right views. I am far from being certain of all this as the sources we ought to be able to rely on are muddled. So far as I can see we (probably) need a disambiguation page. Any thoughts? --Soundofmusicals (talk) 20:37, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

Anthony Davidson[edit]

Hi Guroadrunner. In answer to your question, Davidson's WPF1 importance was set in early 2008 when Davidson was a current F1 driver. But you probably guessed that. I totally endorse his "demotion". Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 11:39, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Shuffleboard Table[edit]

You have a photograph of a shuffleboard table when I searched "shuffleboard table rules" - I am looking for the brand name of that particular table. I recently bought that table and need parts but cannot make out the brand name of the table. Any help would be greatly appreciated. shuffleboard[edit]

I have the same shuffleboard from the pictures you provided, but i bought it used.

Any idea what brand/cost of this table is?

Can't say. It was at a friend's house. Guroadrunner (talk) 08:20, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Virgin Roster[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article Virgin Roster has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable games, unreferenced over 3 years, zero relevant ghits on Books or Scholar

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Kenilworth Terrace (talk) 19:12, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

I agree. Kill it. I think I edited that article as part of wikifying articles. -- Guroadrunner (talk) 08:23, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Indycar2 2.JPG[edit]

Copyright-problem.svg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Indycar2 2.JPG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 12:56, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Chuck Jordan[edit]

Copyright-problem.svg

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Chuck Jordan, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://wikicars.org/es/Charles_M._Jordan.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) CorenSearchBot (talk) 09:34, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

I blanked this article as copyvio since GFDL has not been a compatible license for importing text since 1 November 2008. You can read the gory details atWikipedia:Licensing update if you'd like. The article will remain blanked for at least a week, after which time will be deleted unless it is rewritten on the temp page linked to by the blanking template. If you've imported any other articles from wikicars it would be greatly appreciated if you could rewrite them and/or let me know about them so we can get them cleaned up since we can't use their content. Speedy deletion nomination of Harry Rainer[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Harry Rainer requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Gsingh (talk) 04:40, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

I agree with this. Guroadrunner (talk) 04:41, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited Ranier-Lundy, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Crew chief (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 10:37, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Notification of automated file description generation[edit]

Your upload of File:Alliotthelmet.PNG or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks!
