Request for translation[edit]

I am writing this request because you are listed at Wikipedia:Translators available#Arabic-to-English. The text that I'm requesting a translation for is the following:

  • "ضابط يكشف "خطط تجسس" المراقبين الدوليين على سورية". Ad-Diyar (in Arabic). Beirut, Lebanon. June 9, 2012. Archived from the original on June 20, 2012. Retrieved June 20, 2012. {{cite news}}: Unknown parameter |deadurl= ignored (|url-status= suggested) (help); Unknown parameter |trans_title= ignored (|trans-title= suggested) (help)

The background for this request can be read here. I am preparing for a future discussion about this information at at WP:RSN, and from past experience with foreign-language sources I know that a qualified translation, not merely a machine Google translation, will be requested by the regular reviewers at that noticeboard.

Do note also that I have made this request with four other Arabic-to-English translators besides yourself as past experience is that most will not respond to this request, at least not in a timely fashion. Therefore, should you wish to offer yourself to this task, you should inform the other four so that they will know to disregard the request on their talk pages. You could also simply inform me that you will do the job and I can do the notifying. In any case, here are links to the four other requests:

__meco (talk) 06:45, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I would be able to do it, but where would you like the translation be posted?
Update: I have finished the translation and notified the other four users of this.
--HaythamAbulela 06:42, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Couldn't you simply post it in the sandbox and post the permanent link here? __meco (talk) 11:38, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Also, if I could ask another favor of you related to the same text. Can you attempt to locate on the publishing website any information on editorial policy, in particular information about editorial oversight, e.g. the name of an editor-in-chief or other information that would assist in assessing this article's quality as a reliable source. __meco (talk) 11:43, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The translation is found in my sandbox on this link. I also checked the website and the PDF online version and both show no editorial policy or even its editor-in-chief.
--HaythamAbulela 19:15, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Very good! Again, your effort is highly appreciated. I'll do the best I can with this material. __meco (talk) 22:15, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You can see my inquiry at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard#Ad-Diyar and a trail of media outlets. __meco (talk) 23:36, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Innocence of Muslims film trailer[edit]

Hi, I'm writing because you are listed in Category:Translators ar-en. It was recently pointed out at Talk:Innocence of Muslims#ARABIC Wikipedia version that the English Wikipedia article on the deliberately inflammatory film trailer Innocence of Muslims contains very much more detailed information about the deliberate deceit on the part of the filmmakers to try to obscure their identity and the nature of the trailers which has not yet been added to the Arabic version at ar:براءة_المسلمين which is getting about 8,000 page views per day presently. Would you please consider adding some of the details which might help Arabic readers understand some of the missing details of the trailers? Thank you for your consideration. —Cupco 22:08, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Mashreq logo.png)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Mashreq logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 05:19, 9 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Contests[edit]

User:Dr. Blofeld has created Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/Contests. The idea is to run a series of contests/editathons focusing on each region of Africa. He has spoken to Wikimedia about it and $1000-1500 is possible for prize money. As someone who has previously expressed interest in African topics, would you be interested in contributing to one or assisting draw up core article/missing article lists? He says he's thinking of North Africa for an inaugural one in October. If interested please sign up in the participants section of the Contest page, thanks.♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:23, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Invite to the African Destubathon[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most geography, wildlife and women articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing, whether it's a river in Malawi, a Nigerian footballer, or a South African civil rights activist, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. For those of you who signed up to the North African contest, that will hopefully be held in the new year. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:11, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
