August 2013[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Jackmcbarn. I wanted to let you know that I removed an external link you added to the page Public toilet, because it seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. Jackmcbarn (talk) 02:34, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jack I am Ant, it's nice to meet you - I am new to Wikipedia as a user and I genuinely think the link was relevant and not spammy in anyway. looking at some of the other links in the one being http://signshoppe.net/collections/business - Various Restroom signs etc - I believe this shouldn't be there but it is. would you be so kind as to reinstate the link as I think it is an excellent piece of content and worth a read! I am also not 100% how to talk in here yet correctly so any help would be great thanks in advance — Preceding unsigned comment added by Historyant (talkcontribs) 15:43, 1 September 2013‎ (UTC)[reply]
You were right about the signshoppe link; I've removed that one. The reason I removed your link is that the toilets talked about on the page don't seem notable enough to link to, and if they were, then the article should be edited to mention them instead of just linking to them externally. Jackmcbarn (talk) 15:57, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply and I totally understand! I need to do some research into editing as I love writing and I am forever researching so it would be good to some! Thanks again for your help — Preceding unsigned comment added by Historyant (talkcontribs) 17:34, 1 September 2013‎‎ (UTC)

This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Asian Bomb Squad, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.rapdict.org/Asian_Bomb_Squad.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

Can anyone tell me where this page that I have created has gone? --Historyant (talk) 16:25, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Here mate: "03:47, 6 November 2013 DragonflySixtyseven (talk | contribs) deleted page Asian Bomb Squad (this sort of stuff needs much better sources than a wiki like RapDict)" --Vanguard (talk) 11:37, 18 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply mate, I see what you mean now - there are not too many mentions around the web but I thought it would be a good start to create my first page - I do agree with you though!! Cheers Historyant (talk) 16:46, 18 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. By the way, that's their reason for deletion, I didn't put that :p --Vanguard (talk) 09:42, 19 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Grafton Group[edit]

Hi - Thank you for your edits to Grafton Group. Please can you turn it into prose (as required by WP:PROSE), remove any material that has come from the company's website (per WP:ADVERT) and add independent sources to each line (as required by WP:SOURCE). Thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 21:45, 16 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for your message. I am fairly new to Wikipedia and I am slowly learning the ropes. I am slightly confused about the promotional element, as I thought from the horses mouth would be the most reliable source, especially as I re-wrote it completely. As soon as I get the time, I will use some of the information that I have and start again --Historyant (talk) 08:07, 17 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi - No problem. It is proably best for you to read and get familiar with wikipedia's policies first. Remember that wikipedia is an independent encyclopedia so anything from the company (or the horse's mouth as you put it) is completely inadmissable (unless it is basic infobox facts like foundation date, name of chairman or annual revenue). Everything must come from independent sources (e.g. national newspapers) and if you have any connection to the company you cannot edit it at all under wikipedia's conflict of interest policy (WP:COI). Also remember that the material needs to be balanced per WP:NPOV so criticism (e.g. the company's poor growth record) need to be talked about as well. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 21:40, 17 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Dormskirk, Thanks for your message and for adding some pretty good sources. Slowly I am learning the Wiki way, and each time is a little bit more experience for me. One quick thought for you though..... I added http://www.graftonplc.com/our-businesses/online-businesses because it is basic info about the companies Grafton has online, surely that counts as a source? If you take a look at the Kraft Foods Article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraft_Foods) you can see that they use this source following the sentence 'A selection of Kraft's main brands are as follows: http://www.kraftfoodsgroup.com/brands/largest-brands/index.aspx. I would have thought that the link I included to Grafton's own list of businesses was therefore correct to use as a source. The one you've added only mentions one of their websites, Corgi Direct. So I'm a bit confused as to why you removed this link, Thanks!'. --Historyant (talk) 08:57, 18 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi - I am being a bit purist about this to emphasise the point but strictly you should not be using the company as a source for anything except infobox facts like revenue and income. I would therefore say that the link in the Kraft article is in breach of WP:SOURCE and should be removed - a bit pedantic, I know! Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 18:10, 18 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article Medicine Baba has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I'm not sure if this can be fleshed out to a better quality article.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Plumbworld requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. TheLongTone (talk) 09:26, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for May 24[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Pay toilet, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Titus Flavius Vespasianus (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
