User pages

[edit]

Oh, ok, thanks for letting me know. I suppose I always need to read the rules first :) Sorry for disturbances and confussions and all that. Anyways, I just wanted to say that I had a similar idea. Sorts of "featured userpage" or "featured signature" (maybe an idea to expand latter on; or maybe I already saw something like this, can't remember). So, great work! Could you tell me how to become a judge? Renata 06:12, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, a featured user page sound like a very good idea. It would be an expansion of the esperanza user-page award. Oran e (t) (c) (e) 17:37, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

[edit]

For your kind support of my Rfa, which passed. If you should ever have any complaints about my admin actions, please let me know. Also, should you ever need my help with anything, please do not hesitate to ask! Thanks again! All the best Banez 17:06, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you!
Thank you!

P.S. The UPA is looking great, I cant wait for the final round! Cheers

Admin Coaching

[edit]

Erm... not really. :) Mostly, what a coaching team has to do is to look at a user, spend some time with him, analyze his contributions, give him advice as to how to do things, and brush up the user's knowledge of Wikipedia policy, in preparation for a future FA. Thanks for volunteering, I'll go assign teams now. Titoxd(?!? - help us) 23:16, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, assigned to Bugs5382, and your partner is D-Day. Thanks again! Titoxd(?!? - help us) 00:08, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Userpage Awards

[edit]

Ok, who should I send my scores for the userpage contest to? --D-Day 23:17, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am

[edit]

...around, but I'm on my way out the door. Can we discuss this at 16:00 UTC? Banez 06:34, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Now is good. Banez 15:05, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Template messages

[edit]

I don't know if this matters to you, but now that I've archived my talk page, your message to me now starts with "Hello Knowledge Seeker/Archive7,..." Just thought I'd let you know since I'm sure mine won't be the only page. — Knowledge Seeker 06:40, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's all right; if my RFA had had such a large turnout as yours I might not have left personalized messages either! — Knowledge Seeker 06:20, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Have you seen this?

[edit]

Hehe that is funny... anyway, yes the template you spammed me with seems easy to understand for me... A couple of ideas though. Maybe only spam the judges when their 5 pages have actually been assigned to avoid confusion. I think that it may need to be made more clear that in the first "round", each judge only chooses their best userpage, and doesn't score them, and then only emails the scores on the finalists round. Everything else seems ok to me :) FireFoxT • 17:10, 2 February 2006

UPA

[edit]

Sorry for replying a bit late. Could you please elaborate on my talk page? I probably won't have time to be on IRC until Saturday evening (UTC). Thanks. -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 20:41, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, you'll be pleased to know that I've recieved the first results, so things are going along swimmingly. One thing though, FireFox's above point is very valid, as I've recieved two e-mails from judges with their round 1. scores, assuming that that was all they had to do. So if we could clear that up a bit it'd be good. Otherwise all looks great! Cheers Banez 10:32, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I had not noticed the answer of the anon when I filed the report, I would not have done it. I am now gathering material to answer his objections. But I have to take exception to your suggestion that I have broken the 3 revert rule. Haiduc 14:12, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for your message; my mistake on the length of the block - must have looked wrong. The arrangement SA's universities have makes tracking down vandals terribly difficult... Mikkerpikker ... 16:56, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Its official

[edit]

The results are in, the five finalist's scores have been tallied and added up with great care. I will e-mail them to you and Rune shortly. Two things, shall I announce the top three? "In 3rd place...in 2nd place....and the one we've all been waiting for....$$$$$$$$$!" Or just the winner? Also, shall we make the announcement at 12:00 UTC this afternoon and put up an ad for that on the project page? Cheers Banez 07:45, 4 February 2006 (UTC) (I'll e-mail now)[reply]

Yeah, I went on just after you left IRC, we agreed about how to award the award and so on. A big pat on the back all round, it came off great! Thank you for letting me know about the blocking thing, I've just done my first page protect and am starting to worry that I'm on my way to becoming a rogue admin :). Cheers Banez 17:48, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thank you for the barnstar, KOS! Much appreciated. RexNL 13:45, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, go ahead! :) Sango123 (talk) 17:54, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I dont mind, so long as you write an article about me and make sure it doesnt get deleted. Remember my notability campaign? (You dont have to reply to this by the way.) Cheers Banez 18:06, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lol. It looks good, but the dispute part looks a little confusing (I'd lose the complicated link.) Otherwise, its all good! Banez 18:25, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That looks perfect. I meant the silicon image one, looked a bit confusing... Banez 18:40, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Perfect. Banez 18:46, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry...

[edit]

Sorry, I just thought that since we'd filled the nominations... My bad. - smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 18:24, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What now?

[edit]

Hi, Esperanza user page award page has 5 new judges (me included) and 15 new nominations. What's next? Renata 00:15, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

UPA and things

[edit]

Just left a comment about that in the project's talk page. I'm a bit against "speeding up" things, but they should certainly be predictable and regular. I was thinking of allowing people to nominate as soon as a round ends, but "officially" start the next round on Monday/Tuesday. That way we stay with one contest a week and prevent premature burn-out of the overseers :D

About assigning pages to judges, well I feel like using my trusty dice for the task :D Cheers! -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 00:40, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Forget it, that was something I wrote without thinking too much... it was related to when we are ready to assign pages to the judges, but that happens whenever the overseer in turn gets around to it (duh!). Haha, I should really go to bed soon... not likely that'll happen soon though. -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 00:49, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aranda's 3RR

[edit]

I don't agree with stretching rules, so I've reblocked him. If I were blocked for 3RR, I would not expect to be unblocked. Also, Aranda was OK with the block in IRC when I talked with him. Thanks, WikiFanatic 05:33, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also, going behind another admin's back - who did I go behind? WikiFanatic 05:33, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fine, but add the time that he served unblocked (and round down a minute). WikiFanatic 05:56, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, sorry for the misunderstanding. I guess what I meant to say is "I don't agree with unblocking 3RR people until their block is over". WikiFanatic 13:36, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

More UPA stuff

[edit]

Hi there. I was wondering if it'd be a good idea for you and me and Rune to meet on IRC sometime today? I'm free for most of the day, so name a time if you'd like to do this. Bearing in mind that I am UTC+2 so not tooooo late for me. Cheers Banez 11:36, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm meeting Rune on IRC at 18:00 UTC, can you make it? Banez 12:45, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Lets just say: LMAO! Banez 18:13, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Question about the UPA scoring. So I pick one of the three pages you gave me, then I give it a score of 1-10 on all the catagories. Do I also grade the other four finalists selected by the other judges?

Thanks! WikieZach 22:35, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking of our proxy

[edit]

Hello there,

I am the Infrastructure Architect for the Catholic Education Office, Sydney. I would like to discuss the reasons behind the blocking of one of our proxy addresses which prevents users of our network from editing wikipedia pages. All of the schools within our jurisdiction utilise the proxy on this IP address to access the Internet.

Students and staff within our schools view Wikipedia as a valuable resource, and many of these people also contribute to this remarkable project. As a wikipedia contributor, I feel that the contributions I make should be available to as many persons as possible for review, comment, and editing - within the reasonable bounds that prevent obvious vandalism, etc.

I've sent this message to you via email also. I can be contacted via my talk page (User talk:jpmanalo), or via email at scooter <underscore> manalo <at> yahoo <dot> com <dot> au.

Many thanks and kind regards, Jpmanalo 06:25, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just read your message on my talk page - thanks for unblocking our proxy IP. Feel free to email me if you need to verify my credentials.
- Jpmanalo 06:56, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for...

Re: UPA 2

[edit]

Excellent, just got the email. I'd say we delay the results a bit till, say, any time on Thursday. I don't want people to get too desperate to start the next round, but I don't want it to start before the weekend either :) -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 01:41, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Have a look in your experiments page, the messages are highly simplistic but should catch everybody's attention. Now I'm off to bed, so if you leave any comments on my talk I probably won't be able to see them before UTC noon. -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 02:24, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I an be on IRC at 15:00 UTC. Banez 14:04, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It really looks good to me, no crit I can think of. But one thing, about the award: Did you notice that when I gave Essjay the award I gave him the notification/congrats template and a "barnstar" as seen on the UPA talk page, for him to put on his userpage. Also, I am of the opinion that we ought to slow down a little, and try to do this every Saturday or second Sat or whatever, what do you think? Banez 10:34, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lol that was quick! Banez 10:38, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another Esperanzial note...

[edit]

Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.

Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,
