Welcome[edit]

Hello, NBeauman, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you created appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been reverted for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of deletion, you might like to draft your article before submission, then get me or any other editor to proofread it. To start creating a draft article, just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit that page as you would any other. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

The one firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that if more than one person is using this account to edit, then unfortunately it will be blocked from editing.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!

July 2009[edit]

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. I see that you created a new version of this file and uploaded a completely unrelated picture. If you want to upload this picture, you should choose a new filename. The original picture (of Strachey Hall at Aligarh Muslim University) was already being used. Jujutacular talkcontribs 16:25, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oxford Dictionary of National Biography[edit]

Hi NBeauman - I came across the article you created on Rachel Ferguson and noticed that is the same as the entry at the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, found here. Other biographical articles you have created for writers published by Persephone Books also seem very similar to the corresponding entries on the ODNB. The ODNB website asserts copyright over these entries and because of this, the articles on Wikipedia may not comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia deals with copyright violations very carefully, so I have brought this up for discussion at this page for discussion where you can add your own thoughts if you would like. If the contents of the articles is copyrighted, the articles are likely to be deleted. If you have any questions, or would like any help with this or any other matter, you can contact me on my talk page. I will also leave some information below which is sometimes useful to new contributors. Thanks --Kateshortforbob talk 15:08, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

August 2009[edit]

Your recent addition to Ruth Adam has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. I've deleted this as an obvious copyright violation. I discovered this because of a discussion of your edits here where you might want to respond. You may find that other articles are deleted for the same reason. You need to read Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing which will give you (I hope) a better appreciation of our view on copyright and paraphrasing. Thank you. Copyright problem: Rachel Ferguson[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Rachel Ferguson, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to be a copy from http://www.oxforddnb.com/public/index.html?url=%2Fview%2Farticle%2F56228, and therefore a copyright violation. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under allowance license, then you should do one of the following:

It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:Rachel Ferguson saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved. Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! CactusWriter | needles 15:12, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly unfree File:Cheerful weather.jpg[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Cheerful weather.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the file's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the file description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. --J Milburn (talk) 09:01, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi NBeauman - Thanks for your reply! I appreciate that our policies can sometimes be a bit complicated sometimes. I believe we got all the copyright issues resolved, and we have several new articles to show for it, so I think it all worked out in the end! If you ever have any queries about copyright issues or anything else, our Help Desk should be able to point you towards an answer, or you can leave me a message, and I will try to help. Thanks again! --Kateshortforbob talk 12:49, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked[edit]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing because your account is being used only for spamming or advertising. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first.

Your last 20 or so edits all seem to be adding links to the same website. I note that you've been previously warned about inappropriately adding links, so I've blocked you indefinitely. You can use the {{unblock}} template mentioned above to appeal this block, and I'd hope that if you do so you indicate that you have read and understand WP:SPAM, and that you make a commitment to not adding similar links in future. A kitten for you![edit]

hi Nicola, I found your edit to Norah Hoult for Persephone Books, and had no problem with it, so I thought you deserve a kitten, in view of the Block that seems to have been imposed on you for allegedly spamming - a trifle harsh, in my opinion!

File permission problem with File:Saplings streatfield.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Saplings streatfield.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (tc) 13:22, 4 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
