October 2010[edit]

Please do not introduce incorrect information into articles, as you did to Tiger. Your edits appear to be vandalism and have been reverted. If you believe the information you added was correct, please cite references or sources or discuss the changes on the article's talk page before making them again. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you. Seduisant (talk) 17:42, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cited facts[edit]

Hi Orin04,

Please read carefully because it's important you understand this.

When a Wikipedia article says something like

Leopards can run at 58 km/h[1]

what that really means is

Reference number [1] says that leopards can run at 58 km/h

The [1] is called a citation and it tells readers where Wikipedia got this fact. In an article readers can click on the [1] to get details about the source. Sometimes different sources say slightly different things. One source might say leopards can run at 58 km/h, but another source might say leopards can run at 65 km/h. In that case it's very important that the number Wikipedia gives and the citation really do match up. If you want to change the number, you need to make sure you change the citation, too. When you click edit, you'll see something like <ref>http://www.sandiegozoo.org/animalbytes/t-leopard.html</ref> right after the number. That's what generates the little blue [1], and that's the bit you need to change if you want to change the number.

I hope that makes sense. There's more information at Wikipedia:Citing sources, and you're welcome to leave a message at my talk page for any reason.

Cheers,

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Nile crocodile, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and read the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Blocked[edit]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing because your account is being used only for vandalism. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

Okay, enough with all the changing of numbers. You cannot do this unless supplying a reference. Your lack of response means I have to assume vandalism. I am open to explanations though. Casliber (talk · contribs) 20:07, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
