July 14[edit]

People who died at an age younger than 60 from a fall[edit]

Which people other than Prince François, Count of Clermont died at an age younger than 60 from a fall? I don't mean a fall like that from a three-story or ten-story or twenty-story building, but rather a simple, ordinary (or at least relatively ordinary) fall. According to this in 2016, 134 workers in the United States died in falls on the same level. Most of them would have been under 60. Or are you looking for names?Tobyc75 (talk) 17:25, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm specifically looking for names of famous people whom this applies to, as in my example above. Futurist110 (talk) 18:04, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm flicking through my copy of What a Way to Go! (subtitled "The most surprising, bizarre, comical, fantastic, grotesque, ludicrous and extraordinary deaths ever recorded", and a very interesting book I must say) to find potential candidates; in the meantime, Category:Accidental deaths from falls would be worth browsing. Wallingford Riegger was slightly too old to fit your criteria, and a person called Hans Steiniger (who had the longest beard in the world, apparently, and who died after stepping on it and falling down some stone stairs) doesn't have an article so he's probably not famous enough. Stuff from the book: Our article on Eric Stenbock states that he died of cirrhosis of the liver, but the book says he died "in a drunken rage" when he fell into his fireplace while trying to hit a friend with a poker. The son of Jerome Napoleon Bonaparte II of the House of Bonaparte, also called Jerome, tripped over his wife's dog's lead in 1945. William III of England fell from his horse. Humayun (1508–1556), the second ruler of the Mughal Empire, fell down some stairs and struck his head. Clarityfiend (talk) 06:02, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Actress Natasha Richardson fell while learning to ski. Clarityfiend (talk) 06:06, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Actor Gary Coleman. Clarityfiend (talk) 06:14, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Also check out Category:Deaths by horse-riding accident, e.g. Enguerrand III, Lord of Coucy, who fell off his horse and onto his own sword (oops, about 60). Clarityfiend (talk) 06:18, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Johnny Kemp slipped on a rock and knocked himself unconscious, causing his death by drowning. He was 55. No idea if it was a Friday night... --Jayron32 17:07, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Catfish Hunter was 53 when he slipped and hit his head on cement steps in his home; he died of his injuries a few days later. --Jayron32 17:12, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Kit Lambert, the manager of The Who, died after tripping down some stairs while inebriated. --Jayron32 17:13, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • You could always do the same thing many of us would do to waste our time answering your questions: look it up. Googling "famous deaths by fall" finds a bunch of stuff, and then you yourself could answer your own question by looking at the ages of the decedents. Or you could even stay within the confines of Wikipedia by examining Category:Deaths from falls, but it's not very exhaustive; you can use the results you find from the Google search to improve this category. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆 𝄐𝄇 16:42, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
