Banned users

That's why I was asking. There is something to be said for an "all are welcome" approach. If people cause a scene at one month's meetup they can be banned from future ones, but it is not necessarily appropriate for an online ban to carry over to a RL event. There are obvious arguments in favour of carrying over bans as well, though. I'm erring on the side of "all are welcome" but I would like to hear more opinions. --Tango (talk) 17:07, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Our experience with Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC is that people who are banned on-wiki can often make excellent and friendly meetup guests, despite disagreements online. Actually meeting in person is a humanizing process, which tends to be a good thing all around.--Pharos (talk) 18:56, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

If you're talking about User:Baileyquarter, since he's (a) one of our most prolific current vandals, (b) currently editing from a checkuser-confirmed IP in Florida, and (c) suggested holding the meetup in "the Sherlock Holmes House near Holborn", which doesn't exist (the Sherlock Holmes museum is in Baker Street, and the Sherlock Holmes pub is behind Charing Cross station), I wouldn't hold your breath. – iridescent 19:04, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

It's called a "geonotice", you choose a geographical area and anyone whose IP address is registered in that area sees the notice. It would be great to see you there - we discuss anything and everything. Mostly, but not exclusively, Wiki(p|m)edia related, but really, anything goes. --Tango (talk) 00:46, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Page layout

Is there a reason the project page has its current layout? Some things don't render properly for me – such as the <center> spans, and some of the content just seems a bit hotchpotch. I can see that this has been the way for a few of the past events, and wondered whether #23 was like this "just because the previous ones were". Would there be an objection to me changing it? Apart from the shortcut box being rather oddly placed, everything looks fine to me. Could you describe what it is that isn't rendering properly and how?
