The College of Fine Arts at The University of Texas at Austin has about 200 faculty and 2000 undergraduate majors and graduate students in the Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music, Department of Art and Art History, and Department of Theatre and Dance. In addition, the students and faculty of the College interact closely with the professional staff of the Blanton Museum of Art and Performing Arts Center.
The College and its integral components are ranked among the best in the nation,[citation needed] provide instruction, enrichment and research opportunities in the fine and performing arts for about 48,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at the university and annually present a comprehensive season of exhibitions and performances.
Located in east campus, the facilities of the College include the 3000 seat Bass Concert Hall (currently undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation, and re-opening in February of 2009), the 700 seat Bates Recital Hall, the B. Iden Payne Theater, the McCullough Theater, the Oscar Brockett Theatre and Theatre Lab, 133 practice rooms, five dance studios, several rehearsal studios, the nearly 400,000 collection Fine Arts Library, and the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center.
In March of 2008, the School of Music was renamed the Butler School of Music in response to a 55 million dollar donation from the Butler family. The Butler School of Music is currently has one of the highest endowments of public music schools in America.
