Many Southern Democrats of the time supported the predominant tenets of the New Deal (outside of applying it equal to race, and, on some issues, Unions.) while also holding white supremacist beliefs. On economics the parties predominately did not change positions (outside of several economically conservative Southerners and economically leftish Republicans who were artificially made to inhibit parties with ideologies predominately different to their own.)
