Of course the lake is in Turkish Kurdistan, and it's also in the Armenian highlands. However, not only does your edit imply that Turkish Kurdistan is equivalent to the eastern half of Turkey, but it also crowds the first sentence unnecessarily. The description in the first sentence is for orientation, and if people want detailed coverage of the history of the area now called "Eastern Anatolia", the can navigate to that link.
