The discography of Barbadian singer Rihanna consists of five studio albums, one video album, three compilation albums, twenty-nine singles (including six as a featured artist and three charity releases) and twenty-five music videos. Rihanna made her chart debut in 2005 with "Pon de Replay", after signing with record label Def Jam Recordings. The single reached number one in New Zealand, number two in the US Billboard Hot 100, and the top ten in multiple other countries. Her debut album Music of the Sun has distinct Caribbean reggae rhythms and dancehall beats fused with synthesised urban dance-pop.[1] The album became a top ten Billboard 200 hit, as well as peaking in the top forty of many other album charts. The second single from the album was "If It's Lovin' that You Want". The following year, Rihanna released her second studio album, A Girl like Me, which has a more urban-pop sound as opposed to the tropical sound of Music of the Sun.[2] It had more chart success than its predecessor, topping the Canadian Albums Chart and reaching the top five in the United States and the United Kingdom, and was subsequently certified platinum in multiple countries. A Girl like Me spawned four singles: chart-toppers "SOS" and "Unfaithful", as well as "Break It Off" and "We Ride". The accompanying music video for "Unfaithful" was directed by Anthony Mandler, and was the first of many videos the pair worked on together.

In 2007, Rihanna collaborated with J-Status and Shontelle on the song "Roll It", before releasing her third album, Good Girl Gone Bad. The album again shifts genres to a more urban and European dance-pop sound.[3] It was significantly more successful than her previous albums, topping several album charts and receiving an array of sales certifications. The album includes the worldwide hit "Umbrella", which reached number one on many singles charts. Other singles from Good Girl Gone Bad include "Shut Up and Drive", "Don't Stop the Music" and "Hate That I Love You". A reissue of the album titled Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded produced three more singles; "Take a Bow", "Disturbia", and "Rehab". Rihanna also featured in singles with Maroon 5, T.I., Jay-Z and Kanye West, as well as the charity record, "Just Stand Up!". Rihanna's fourth studio effort, Rated R, was released in November 2009. It is described as having a "dark" and "mature" tone.[4] While the album did not have the commercial impact of Good Girl Gone Bad, it managed to reach the top ten in several international markets. Rated R produced the worldwide top ten hit "Russian Roulette", and "Hard", a collaboration with rapper Jeezy. "Rude Boy" followed, and became her sixth single to top the US Hot 100. Two other singles were released, "Te Amo" and "Rockstar 101", which featured Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash. Rihanna also appeared on rapper Eminem's single, "Love the Way You Lie," which peaked at number one in several markets worldwide. As of July 2010, Rihanna had sold over 5.56 million album units in the US.[5]

Loud, Rihanna's fifth studio album, was released in November 2010. Its lead single, "Only Girl (In the World)", had a large commercial impact, reaching number one in numerous countries. A team-up with Drake spawned the US number-one single "What's My Name?".
