Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

Current requests

Add new requests to the bottom of the page.

Mhkh90 → Moh9878cb4

Clerk note: - That username may be unneccesarily complex and not comply with Wikipedia's username policy under inappropriate usernames No.1 Rudget Contributions 14:54, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: That name is too random, can you choose another one? Secretlondon 14:40, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CURRENT → NEW

"current"RÊ-ATOUM-LOgos(Onan)"new"RÊ-ATOUM-Logos/(Onan)-Apollon

Clerk note: - Please provide a reason, a current username and requested username in clear English. Rudget Contributions 13:25, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: We can't progress this until you provide a new name. Secretlondon 14:42, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Txtad → TXTad

  • Current name: Txtad (talk · contribs · logs · block log)
  • Requested name: TXTad (rename user)
  • Reason: Txtad is an account I inadvertently created before I realized that TXTad and Txtad were separate accounts. TXTad is an ID that I use elsewhere on the internet and I'd like to be consistent. Both accounts already exist (and are both mine), so if this isn't the appropriate request, please let me know what I should to do retire Txtad in favor of TXTad and not lose either of the (admittedly minor) histories. Txtad 19:29, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: - The user requesting has only made 4 edits. Rudget Contributions 13:29, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Would it be better for me to simply delete the current TXTad and then ask for Txtad to be renamed to TXTad? Txtad 14:53, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not if TXTad has contributions (in fact, one cannot "delete" an account). -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 04:13, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: You need to login as both accounts and comment here so we can see you control both. Secretlondon 14:43, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cerge-ei → Madzharova

If you got pegged for COI edits, then stop editing about yourself/your company/whatever you're personally involved with. A username change will not mask you from COI. -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 19:56, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: You can't write about yourself regardless of the username you choose. Please see our conflict of interest policy for details. Secretlondon 14:55, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kristobish → Rolls66

Bureaucrat note: But you've only written about yourself, having a different name will hide your massive conflict of interest issues. I'd be a lot happier doing this if you could demonstrate that you are not just using us for advertising. Secretlondon 15:02, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DubNarcoticDotOrg → Chadlnx

Your username was blocked for a different reason (the "DotOrg" part of it and the reference to narcotics). -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 04:38, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's ok. I just wanted to document music online with a group of peers and that is the domain name. Can I then please change it to "chadlnx"? Thanks in advance!). --24.1.235.173 06:43, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Can you put a message on your talk page confirming it was you who made this request? --Chris  G  11:34, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, done. --24.1.235.173 09:46, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We want confirmations here, not on their talk page. Thanks. Secretlondon 15:35, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: You haven't logged in, but then you appear to be blocked. Secretlondon 15:35, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: I've unblocked. Please login and sign here. Secretlondon 15:38, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Radiotooth → Pgms

Clerk note: - This user has only made 3 edits. However, he may have more that are deleted which I can't view. Rudget Contributions 19:12, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
For the record, there aren't any deleted contribs. But I can understand wanting to hold on to an account registered almost a year ago. EVula // talk // // 20:30, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: the account was made on 23:52, 26 October 2007. Was this by you? Secretlondon 15:41, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Javierr → Rey javier

User javierr wishes to have account deleted. Thank you.

Escondites → Pin

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. However, as this requested account has made no edits, it meets the criteria for being usurped; if you are an established user and wish to usurp it, please read and follow the process at m:Steward requests/Username changes. If you do not wish to usurp the username, please choose another name to be renamed to. Cheers, Lights () 17:01, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.Haney → Eóin

Clerk note: Although the username policy does not state that usernames with non-English characters are not allowed, it does mention that it is considered good practice to make a redirect with an English username to your username with non-English characters. For example you may wish to make User:Eoin a redirect to User:Eóin if you're renamed, therefore making it easier for users who do not easy accessibility to Latin characters on there keyboard. Cheers, Qst 19:50, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Seeing as User:Eoin doesn't exist, can I register Eoin and redirect it to Eóin. P.Haney 20:05, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You don't need to have two accounts, when you're renamed to Eóin just create the page of User:Eoin with: #REDIRECT [[User:Eóin]], so it'll redirect to the non English username. Qst 21:13, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CURRENT → NEW

CURRENT Errol F. frith NEW Errol F. Frith Reason: Correcting typo to capitalise surname203.169.18.247 21:26, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please 1) Specify your current username and the username which you request to be renamed to 2) Sign in to that account to make the request as otherwise it will not be performed. Cheers, Qst 21:27, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed this is the same request as below in #Errol F. frith → Errol F. Frith. PrimeHunter 21:37, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Zdenka Hersak Krizman → Nauseef

Muse weddings → Muse Weddings

Clerk note: The requester has two edits, one to this page, the other to create their userpage. ( arky ) 03:07, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Addendum: The user's userpage and this may indicate a potential conflict of interest. ( arky ) 03:10, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gswatson → Humanistmisanthrope

Clerk note: This is Gswatson's first edit and no reason was given. Cheers, Lights () 00:29, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

82FirebirdTA → Agent13

Errol F. frith → Errol F. Frith

Clerk note: You only edits are to this page and to your userpage, why not create the new account via Special:Userlogin. Cheers, Qst 16:19, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: They can't make the new account if it is too close to an existing username. Secretlondon 23:59, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed an IP (probably the same editor) was denied the requested name at Wikipedia:Request an account#Errol F. Frith because the names were too similar. PrimeHunter 21:41, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Since the only contributions by this account are attempts to change their name, I have accepted their request on WP:ACC so this request no longer applies. Tra (Talk) 22:16, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not done as above. Secretlondon 23:59, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rkraft1951 → Bachconcerto

Clerk note: Your only edit is to here, and to add a speedy deletion tag to your user talk page (which I have since removed as user talk pages are not deleted on request, only userpages and subpages), why not just create the new account? Qst 19:02, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Phpdotnet → Thereisnospoon

Warholio → The Desert Fox

Clerk note: This account is already taken, but doesn't have any edits. You have two options: usurp it, or change it to Desert Fox, as you requested. O2 () 00:15, 30 October 2007 (GMT)

Warholio → Desert Fox

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. Please choose another name which is not already in use. Cheers, Lights () 01:21, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

EEMeltonIV → EEMIV

Mithila haque → Mithila Haque

Clerk note: Username changes are here to transfer contribs from one account to another, this username change request is your only edit, why not just create the new account? Qst 10:41, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Most likely the software won't let Mithila haque create the new account because it is too similar to the old ones name. --Chris  G  10:45, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jokanovic → FC_Drina

Clerk note: You have requested to have _ in your username, when renamed, the system will convert that to a regular space between the words, so you will be renamed to FC Drina rather than FC_Drina, unfortunately, the system will not allow _ in usernames; is that still OK? Qst 10:40, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That will be fine. Thank you --Jokanovic 13:30, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Good, I was just making sure as I did not want to see you renamed to a username which you don't like :) Qst 15:56, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Opusdiabolus → OpusDiabolus

Senpaiottolo → Senpai

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. Please choose another name which is not already in use. Qst 13:08, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The user name have not userpage and discussions user page, have also 1 edit, may be 1 year and half ago.--Senpaiottolo 14:06, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hence forth, it is not eligible for changing username, and unlikely for usurpation, I'll just check what the edit was, you maybe allowed usurpation of Senpai, if the edit was vandalism and instantly reverted, I'll check the edit now. Qst 15:53, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, the edit was legitamite made by Senpai, so usurpation would be in violation of the GNU Free Documentation Licence, which is the foundation of Wikipedia's content. Sorry, Qst 15:55, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I know very weel the term on GFDL.... but it's time to think to an automatic decay of user name not used... i understand that this is anoter aspect of the problem, but, i think this is the right place to represent it.--Senpaiottolo 18:06, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Brianaustin777 → Sevensevens

MetalUpYA → Metallo

Iulaw → IULAW

Hey, I see you made the request here rather than from WP:ACC where you requested it under your IP address, good work! Qst 20:27, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
