Season 1

The show explores work in progress relationship of Sonakshi "Sona" Bose and Dev Dixit. Dev is a successful business tycoon who lives with his mother Ishwari and three sisters, Neha, Riya and Nikki. Dev was only eight years old when he lost his father. His mother Ishwari had to make a lot of sacrifices for the upbringing of her children. Dev owes everything to his mother and has a feeling of indebtedness and complete devotion for her.

Sona is a young and vibrant nutritionist who is hired by Dev to take care of Ishwari's health. Due to an accident, Dev cares for Sona and she falls for him. Sparks fly between Sona and Dev and they fall in love. When Ishwari comes to know about their relationship she is heartbroken as she fears that she will be replaced by Sona in Dev's life. When Dev realizes that his mother does not approve of this relationship, he takes a practical decision and decides to part ways. Ishwari realizes that Dev cannot be happy without Sona, and agrees to their marriage.

Sona and Dev reconcile and get married. Neha also marries her former English teacher, Ranveer. After heated arguments between Sona and Dev due to Ishwari's continuous interference in their married life and misunderstandings created by Dev's cousin, Vicky, Sonakshi and Dev part ways, After separation, Sona gets to know that she is pregnant with Dev's child, and the story then takes a leap of seven years.

Sona is now a successful businesswoman living in Kolkata with her family and six-year-old daughter Suhana, while Dev becomes a Casanova, not knowing that he and Sona have a daughter. She shifts to Delhi for business purposes and buys a portion of Dev's office. Sona keeps hiding Suhana from Dev as she feels that he might snatch Suhana away from her, while Suhana is well aware of all the differences between her parents.

Eventually, while befriending Suhana, Dev sees her with Sona and finds her daughter. They both decide to be with each other for Suhana's sake. Meanwhile, Ishwari starts liking Sona after saving her from a mysterious person named Khatri. During all this, Dev and Sona realize that they still love each other, and reunite.

She then finds out during those seven years, Dev blamed Ishwari for breaking his marriage apart, distanced himself from his family, and never cared about his three sisters. Neha and Riya are happily married, while Nikki was in a live-in relationship with her boyfriend Lakshya. Sona helps Ishwari and the three sisters forgive Dev. She and Dev then find out that Vicky was the main cause for all their misunderstandings, and he later apologizes.

Season 1 ends on a happy note with Sona giving birth to their second child Shubh, with the entire family united.

Season 2

This season explores the life of Sona and Dev after the birth of their second child, Shubh. Dev quits his business temporarily to let Sona pursue her dream, much to Ishwari's dismay. It shows Sona a working woman and Dev as a househusband.

The season also focuses on how Dev changes the education pattern of their children's school and how Suhana and Golu fall victim to a dangerous game. It also focuses on Saurabh and Ronita's experience as first-time parents.

Dev then becomes an RJ and the family celebrates his success. Season 2 ends as Shubh says Maa and Papa for the first time.

Season 3

This season focuses on the distancing between Sona and Dev. Even though they love each other, due to their family and work, they face difficulties in connecting emotionally. They also find out that Ayushmann Verma is their real son who was switched at birth with Suhana and bring Ayush home, as both his switched parents are no more. This brings up turbulence in the Dixit family. Ishwari starts to drift apart from Suhana and becomes attached to Ayush. Suhana starts feeling insecure about her family's love for her. To balance their affection for both the children, as well as maintaining the relationships of their own family, Sonakshi and Dev struggle, with Ishwari's overprotective nature being the main obstacle in their way.

This overprotectiveness of Ishwari leads her to discuss the Naam Karan ritual of Ayush to Ved as it is similar to Dev. Ayush hears this, and leaves the Dixit home to his grandparents home. After learning the fact that Ayush has left the house she felt guilty and developed a soft corner for him. The family members got worried and finally, they found him at his grandparent's house after making a lot of effort to find him. When Dev arrives there the grandparents deny him to take Ayush away and then grandfather suffers a heart attack. Afterwards, Ayush returns to Dixit's house to not be a burden on his old grandparents. Suhana finally accepts Ayush as his brother, making Golu feel jealous. Meanwhile, Ishwari decided to do the Naam Karan after Dev and Sona leave for the offices respectively. After the puja Dev got to know about the Naam Karan and eventually tells Sonakshi.

Sonakshi goes to her father's house angrily and Dev tries to convince her, but she refuses. After being reluctant, she returns home with the condition to take her kids to her father's house. This leads to a big argument between Dev and Sona that Dev even starts ignoring her and sleeping away from his own room. She feels Dev has blocked her away from his life. Being stressed from this argument, his work and his family, Dev begins to take anxiety pills which even results in him taking an overdose.

Sonakshi then regrets the fact that she was only thinking about her problems and ignoring Dev all this while. She and Dev both end their fight and go for marriage counselling. During the therapies Dev learns why Sona had been angry at him for all this time, it was because he was not there for her when her mother, Asha, died. Dev feels guilty and tries to apologize to her. In order to apologize to Sona, Dev opens a primary school in the name of Sona's mom, Asha Primary School. Sona accepts Dev's apology.

Meanwhile, Sanjana, a young interior design, decides to join Dev's company "Ishwari Enterprises" to learn more about Dev, after being impressed by the love letter and bouquet of Dev, which he was taking for Sona. Initially, she befriends Dev and tries to learn more about him, but gets shocked after learning that he is married. Yet, she believes in Serendipity and has fallen for him. So she makes continuous efforts to impress Dev, thus making Sonakshi insecure. Sonakshi confront her in a drunk state in the party and then apologizes later to her when Sanjana comes to the Dixit home, where she takes Dev's handkerchief. Neha comes home, but does not inform the family about some problem and behaves cold towards Dev, Ishwari and Sonakshi, later revealed that she wanted to shift to another house with Ranveer, but became angry when Ranveer couldn't afford money for both his mom's treatment and a new apartment.

Elena, an internet sensation now, starts to chat with a fan who is a pervert. He had stolen her house keys and even entered her house secretly. He then morphs Elena's photo and demands for 25 Lakhs, but is soon arrested by the police.

Meanwhile, in the Bose House, Saurabh decides to give a room of their house for rent for money. They allow Zedin, a boy from Shillong to live with them but find something fishy when he ignores his father's phone calls. It is then revealed that Zedin actually ran away from his home in order to be an International Boxer, because his father didn't support his dream and wanted Zedin to work in his tea garden.

Meanwhile, Sanjana proposes Dev, making him confused and angry. Sanjana is shown to come to Delhi for a certain goal, and had some link with Rohit Verma. She is afterwards revealed to be the younger sister of late Meenal Arora (now Verma), wife of late Rohit Verma and Suhana's biological aunt. She confesses this to Dev, and Dev shouts at her. The next day she went to office with a bouquet to show the proof to Dev. To her shock Sonakshi was waiting for Sanjana. Sonakshi warned Sanjana not to come near her family and her daughter Suhana. She also said she can go to any extent to protect her family and Dev doesn't want to wish to see her face.Sanjana becomes very angry hearing this and then decides to seek revenge from Sonakshi by manipulating all family members to start hating her. She goes to Dev's office to seek forgiveness and then enters the Dixit house again. She finds Sonakshi's mangal sutra and breaks it.

She also tries to kill Bijoy in order take revenge from Sonakshi for hurting her feelings. She electrocutes him, landing him in hospital just in time. Dev supports Sonakshi unaware Sanjana was behind it.Afterwards, dev receives a phone call from Vicky and to his shock IT department was raiding Dev's office regarding the illegal paperwork of 'Asha Foundation'. It is then revealed that Sanjana is all behind it.
