Requests for IP check

  • Vandal and attack accounts may be listed here for the purpose of identifying and blocking the underlying IP address or open proxy. Requests to confirm sockpuppets of known users should be listed in the sockpuppet section above.
  • If you already know the IP address of the suspected open proxy, list it at Wikipedia:Open Proxies instead.
  • Use === Subsections ===; do not create subpages.
  • List user names using the {{checkuser|username}} template. Add new reports to the top of the section.
  • Requests may be acted on or declined according to the discretion of the checkuser admins. Responses will be noted here.
  • Answered requests will be moved to Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/IP check/Archive for 7 days, after which they will be deleted. No separate archive (other than the page history) will be maintained.

See Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Alinob77 and Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Alinob77 (2nd). All known accounts are blocked, and I don't suspect sleepers, but with three more accounts created today I think the IP needs to be found and addressed. GRBerry 18:55, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Code letter: F

Mariam83 (talk · contribs) is an indef-blocked sockpuppeteer. She's returned with various IP socks and I've semi-protected most of her target pages. She appears to have a number of sleeper accounts as well, which exceed the autoconfirmed threshold, including the two listed above. I'd request that any additional sleepers be identified so they can be blocked, and that her underlying IP or IP range be blocked if this is feasible without too much collateral. MastCell Talk 19:04, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See also Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Mariam83. It would take a pretty big rangleblock to get all of those in the 68. range, and obviously the ones that start with other numbers are out of the question. She seems to only use each IP for a day or two, not sure if she does the same thing when she's logged in. If this check is carried out, there are likely going to be a lot of accounts turning up; the checkuser should feel free to give me a list and let me to go through them to figure which are socks. banned editor appears to be back at it. I'd like a check for sleepers and also an underlying IP block if it won't cause too much collateral damage. I know his ISP and typical IP ranges if it helps confirm... just email me.--Isotope23 talk 12:39, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've added 3 more. Starwars1955 (talk · contribs) just tagged them as socks of himself with another sock account. I've no idea if these are actual socks of his or if he's just trying to create confusion. Probably worth reviewing those too.--Isotope23 talk 12:33, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

HC and his subsequent 26 sockpuppets are very disruptive and non-productive, and thus detrimental to Wikipedia and Wikimedia Foundation. Unfortunately, because of the way this editor contributes they have exhausted all "Good Faith." So, even if they have valuable contributions to make, they pushed their abuse to the point that it doesn't matter any more and is rendered irrelevant. This is a sad state. This is sad because of they way that they contribute, and have choose to conduct themselves and ignore the basic Wikipedia rules, MOS, and proper procedures. In addition, it is a sad state because it takes away valuable time of editors that want to make positive contributions to Wikipedia. So, not only are they doing something negative, they are causing others to do something negative. The amount of time that good faith editors spend on vandalism and reversing negative edits is tremendous. This becomes a productivity factor. Users like HarveyCarter make Wikipedia an unproductive place. In addition they give Wikipedia a bad name in the general media. The time I have spent removing previous sockpuppets, and now working on this, the HC, case, I could have been creating new articles and/or cleaning up existing ones. But letting users like HC stick around only cracks the foundation of Wikipedia. If you have read the press that Wikipedia has received this year, it has not been very good. Most of that press is from Conflict of Interest edits, edits from uneducated and uninformed editors, and users like HC who just want to screw with people and cause editors that want to make positive contributions to waste their time following their tracks. I suspect that HC has another legitimate handle on here, and makes edits in good faith, and I will now conduct a search of the IP addresses to root out who the real HC is. Thank you very much for you help and time. IP4240207xx 20:12, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmed that the following are all the same user (these are the most recent):

All are already blocked. There is a range block in place for the IPs that this user is socking from. There are a large number of innocent editors in this range in addition to the socks. I did not find any new socks, although I did not check every IP that every sock edited from (too many to check, sorry). Hope that helps. Thanks for your efforts in addressing this issue. ++Lar: t/c 13:55, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The id matches the above IDs, same user. As before, too many other users on the IP to block it. The best that can be done is watch for patterned behaviour, track it somewhere, and block and tag. Sorry. I think this case is probably closable, the purpose of IP check cases is to find if there is a common IP or small range that is blockable to shut down the sockish behaviour. In this case, unfortunately, there is not. At least not in my view. I invite another CU to take a look and see if I missed or misinterpreted something. ++Lar: t/c 18:08, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Appeal that we nuke the IP range for a month to discourage this user, anybody that wants a legitimate account can ask for one. Thanks, Harry S. Truman (IP4240207xx 19:43, 3 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]
I think there are a fair number of innocent users that use that range. There is already a rangeblock in place for it, a very large one, for all of this AOL section, but it's just preventing anon edits, not disallowing user reg. That was the one I saw before, it was fooling me.... I'd support a block that prevents new user creation for the smallest range possible (let them write to unblock-en-l), but do want to allow editing from non blocked existing users. ++Lar: t/c 03:14, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This user is disrupting the Prostatitis and associated talk page in order to place spam links. He is also placing spam links as 165.166.193.82 I suspect, as well as User:Schmoopster.   Skopp   08:00, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This was an impersonation account, that was created to move my user and talkpage to another name, where my home phone number was revealed in the page title. The move has been oversighted out of history and the account has been blocked, but I am still requesting a Checkuser to identify if it is another user who did this, so that they can be warned/blocked appropriately. --Elonka 05:03, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Per this edit on Talk:Child abuse, and this ANI discussion the newly created editor said they were being abused. I request a CheckUser to get the IP from this account, but have it held by the person performing the CheckUser, so that it is on hand if the authorities are contacted. Request to identify sleeper accounts. Massive daily ban-evading sockpuppeting sprees on Turkey-related articles since community ban some weeks ago. IP ranges known: 151.37.0.0/16, 151.41.0.0/16, sometimes also 151.42.0.0/16 or 151.38.0.0/16. The sheer quantity of the activity has made massive range blocks and semiprotection of numerous articles necessary, but these are made inefficient by the use of sleeper accounts, of which numerous probably still exist. User:Fixersfixers

Fixersfixers, indefinitely blocked, has been using obvious sockpuppets over the last few days to revert to his/her preferred version of articles and to vandalize user pages of admins who deal with the issue. Hopefully, there are underlying common IPs that can be blocked to stop this pattern. — TKD::Talk 14:35, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:Heavy Brother

I have no idea who the account really belongs to, as there are a few people I've managed to upset in my time here in WP. The confluence of edit history imply that the connection is arising from an editor with whom I have a content dispute with in the Ronald Reagan article. The two main contentous editors are listed above; I really have no idea who it could be.
Link appears red bc there is no detail to either User page or User talk page. All the user has for edit history is seen on their Special Contributions list is three ANO/3RR submissions.
