Quezon City Science High School (QCSHS or simply Quesci) is the science high school for Quezon City located at Golden Acres Rd., cor. Misamis St., Bago Bantay, Quezon City, Philippines. Founded in 1967, it is the Regional Science High School for the National Capital Region (RSHS-NCR) It was appointed as the Regional Science High School for the National Capital Region in 1998. It holds the distinction as among the national leaders in the field of Mathematics competitions being among the country's most consistent schools in terms of its performance in the DepEd-sponsored MTAP contests the past 10 years.[citation needed]

The school holds one of the lowest percentages of entrance test passers in premiere colleges in the Philippines like the University of the Philippines and the Ateneo de Manila University.[citation needed] Almost all of the students also qualify to different scholarship programs, not only the ones sponsored by the school, but also those by the local government. Currently, QueSci holds the topnotcher post in the Division Achievement Test in Quezon City.

QCSHS also has two publications, namely The Electron, and "Ang Banyuhay", where QueSci is one of the national leaders and award baggers in competitions.

QCSHS' sections are named after different scientists namely Avogadro, Becquerel, Curie, Darwin, Edison, Einstein, Fleming, for Regional Science High School Curriculum and for the Engineering And Science Education Program Curriculum, Archimedes and Bernoulli. This was adapted only for Batch 2009.

Admission

Applicants must have a grade of 85 in major subjects (Sciences, Math, English) and 83 in minor subjects to be able to take the entrance exam. In the first screening, applicants must achieve a score of at least 75%. In order to pass the second screening, an applicant must be in the top 250 of the examinees. The third screening is an interview.

Brief History

Dr. Hermingilda G. Margate, the then Division Science Supervisor, conceived the establishment of a science high school in Quezon City. This idea was announced by Mr. Alfredo J. Andal, then City Schools Superintendent in the year 1967. Later, in 1997, the city science high school of Quezon City was designated by the Department of Education - National Capital Region as the Regional Science High School for the National Capital Region.

QueSci celebrated its 40th foundation anniversary last September 17, 2007 and named the Administration Building's lobby, the Margate Hall, dedicated to its foundress, the late Dr. Hermingilda G. Margate. Her son, Ryan, was the one who unveiled the new marker for the building.

The new principal is Mrs. Zenaida P. Sadsad, a former science teacher in this institute. She hates late comers, making a new policy that would strictly advise that students shall come before 7:00 AM. She was also implementing one-hour extension everyday to sophomores and additional Saturday regular classes which is first time in Scientian history.

The Principal

The current principal of Quezon City Science High School is Dr. Zenaida P. Sadsad. Dr. Sadsad came from Santa Lucia High School, now designated as Principal III of QCSHS. She replaced the 11-month principal of QCSHS, Dr. Proceso T. Lera, who is now appointed at North Fairview High School as Principal IV.

Dr. Lera is the successor of another less-than-a-year termer principal, Dr. Romulo B. Rocena. Dr. Rocena, now principal of Ernesto Rondon High School replaced Ms. Betty C. Cavo, now Assistant Division Schools Superintendent. QueSci's first principal is Dr. Herminigilda G. Margate. Another former principal, Ms. Betty C. Cavo was promoted as Assistant Division Superintendent.

Facilities

The Margate Hall

Then the QCSHS Administration Building, it was renamed to Margate Hall after its founder, then Quezon City Division Science & Mathematics Supervisor Herminigilda Margate in celebration of its 40th anniversary. The central building of QCSHS is located near the school covered court, which houses the Office of the Principal, Office of School Properties, Office of the Registrar and the conference hall in the first floor. In the second level's south wing is of the English Department, with its English Center, Reading Center, Speech Laboratory and Staff and Publications Room found. Located in the north wing of the second level are the botany and physics laboratories and Mathematics Club Office. In the old administration building is the room of five freshmen sections and the School Clinic and Office of the Guidance Counselor.

Mathay I Building

This three-story building houses the QueSci's Mathematics Center and Laboratory as well as its school library and e-library which is connected to the international networking. You can also locate the Earth & Environmental Science Laboratory as well as the room for the school's student of the Engineering & Science Education Curriculum.

QCSHS Science & Technology Building

It is the main building of school's Science Department. In the first level are the Integrated Science and Biology Laboratories (as well as office for the teachers utilizing the laboratory). In the second level are the two airconditioned Computer Laboratories and the Science Center.

DOST Building

The Department of Science & Technology's Engineering & Science Education Building, a one-story structure houses the school's Physics and Chemistry laboratories which was funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). The building was constructed under then Division Superintendent Aquilina S. Rivas.

Mathay II Hall

The largest structure in the campus, this four-story all-classroom building was constructed through local government of Quezon City under the administration of the former Quezon City Mayor Ismael Mathay Jr. It houses all the sections from third year of the Regional Science High School Curriculum and to fourth year both RSHS and Engineering and Science Education Curriculum (ESEP). It also rooms the first two sections of the freshmen, Avogadro and Becquerel.

Electives

The school also offers elective subjects for second to fourth year students. Examples of these electives are Biotechnology, Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Practical Chemistry, Business Math, Analytic Geometry, Linear Algebra, Advanced Technical Writing, Business Correspondence, Speech and Drama, Theater Arts, Creative Writing, Journalism, French and Robotics.
