Sydenham is a mainly residential suburb located in the southeast of Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.[1] The residential areas consist predominantly of private houses with a cluster of Council houses on the western side. With the recent (2008) push on house building, the size of the estate has increased considerably. There are several light industrial/business units in Sydenham Industrial Estate. It has two schools, a doctors surgery, a large Asda supermarket, a small sports centre, and two pubs The Fusilier and The Grist Mill.[citation needed]There is also a small social club.
History
The suburb was developed almost entirely in the middle of the twentieth century. Before that the area was farmland (Sydenham Farm) with a few isolated farm buildings on it.[citation needed]
Transport
The Grand Union Canal (formally the Warwick and Napton Canal) runs west-east in the north of the area, and the Radford Road (A425) runs west-east just north of the canal. The River Leam meanders through Newbold Comyn Park just north of Sydenham. The Chiltern Main Line, an inter-city and commuter railway, runs approximately north-south through the west of the area, and the nearest station is the Leamington Spa railway station in Leamington town centre.[1]
Education
Campion School and Community College is situated in the south of Sydenham.[1][2] There is also one junior school in Sydenham.
