Hello, welcome to my talk page!

  • If you want to leave a message, please do it at the bottom as a new section, for better formatting. You can do that by simply pressing the plus sign (+) or "new section" on the top of this page. And don't forget to sign your messages with four tildes, like this: ~~~~.
  • I prefer to keep discussions unfragmented. So if you leave a comment for me here, I will most likely respond to it on this same page–my talk page–as an effort to keep the entire conversation in one place. By the same token, if I leave a comment on your talk page, please respond to it there. Remember, we can use our watchlist to keep track of when responses are made. At the same time, feel free to send an alert to me on this page about a comment you have left elsewhere. (I will break this rule sometime, if I want to get your attention quickly)
  • I am busy in real life and may not respond swiftly to queries.
  • If I have reviewed an FLC for you, I have watchlisted the page, and will return within a reasonable time to Support, Oppose, or otherwise address your nomination. Reminders are unnecessary. Thanks.
Please sign by adding ~~~~ at the end of your message when you post here. Thanks.

2008 NBA Draft - "Notable Undrafted"

Hey- Not interested in getting into an edit war, but this section exists on most of the other NBA Draft pages. It also isn't actually subjective since it denotes that those listed earned a "full year contract during the following season." Just trying to make the page consistent with previous years. Quadruple-double

Excellent revision to the Quadruple-double article. I was just thinking how much better the near misses would look as a table, and you made the changes before I got a chance to. Nicely done! —C.Fred (talk) 02:34, 6 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, could you revisit to check if your oppose still stands? The nominator has added several new awards to the list. Dabomb87 (talk) 13:47, 6 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I noticed you commented on the FLC I nominated. Do you also feel this list I worked on should be merged, because this one seems more independent of the article then the one I submitted today was. Thank you for reading (and hopefully responding :D) Hello32020 (talk) 22:29, 6 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh wait, you didn't even comment on the FLC XD Well could you respond anyway. Hello32020 (talk) 22:31, 6 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And...you did...Chris was you...oops :D Hello32020 (talk) 22:32, 6 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rick Barry

The best I can find is this, which confirms that he had 30 points and 9 steals. Do you have a San Francisco public library card? You can access the San Francisco Chronicle's archives here; that should at least get you a box score. Zagalejo^^^ 22:34, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't own Basketball for Dummies, but I can get a preview of the page at Amazon.com. It only mentions Debbie Black. Zagalejo^^^ 01:28, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Phelps, Richard. (1999). Basketball for Dummies (2nd ed.) For Dummies. p. 60. ISBN 0764552481.

No problem. I was so astonished that someone had actually completed a quintuple-double, especially on the collegiate level, that I was intrigued enough to read the story (good thing I did, I suppose). But don't worry about it, anyone who contributes regularly to Wikipedia like you and me will inevitably breeze through a source without studying it carefully and then screw up a fact or two. Great job on the Double (basketball) page though, it looks amazing. Jrcla2 21:09, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

TV Interview

Dear Chrishomingtang,

I am trying to locate contributors to Wikipedia who live in San Francisco and might be available for an on-camera TV interview next Thursday (6/25) about Wikipedia and what motivates you to contribute to Wikipedia. If you are interested please let me know. I am also looking for other Wikipedia contributors in San Francisco who would potentially be interested in doing this if you have any suggestions.

Thanks.

Thanks for covering my whole watchlist...just out of curiosity, what did you exactly do to all those articles? -- [[SRE.K.A.L.|L.A.K.ERS]] 02:51, 21 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I ran a script called User:Plastikspork/monobook.js/script.js, which can fix wiki codes and remove whitespace.—Chris! ct 02:56, 21 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Whitespace removal too excessive

Hello, what is the purpose of your whitespace removal edits? I feel they go too far, especially with wikitable markup. Many editors find it much clearer to work with table data when elements are delimited by some whitespace:

| label || 431 || 562 || 43 || 6654 || 45

Of course, this is equivalent to

|label||431||562||43||6654||45

but I think the former is much easier to read in the edit window than the latter, as the table cell data stands out better. I think your script should be less aggressive with spaces inside table markup. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 20:24, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry if I cause any problem. The script is not mine, so I don't know how to make it not to fix whitespace within tables. I will stop using it if it causes so much problems. Thanks for letting me know.—Chris! ct 21:08, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, no worries! Who should I talk to about the script? — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 19:52, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The script name is User:Plastikspork/monobook.js/script.js, so I guessed User:Plastikspork is the person you should talk to.—Chris! ct 20:02, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the feedback. I have been slowly merging this script with WP:AutoEd, and there has been some discussion there about a more fine-grained approach to whitespace removal. We are working on it. It should be the case that the 'Sprk: WS' button is the only button that removes whitespace. Let me know if that is not the case. I will work on making the 'Sprk: WS' button a bit less aggressive. If you could show me an offensive diff I can target your specific case. Thanks again. Plastikspork (talk) 17:20, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks! The edit that caught my watchlist was this one (later reverted by another editor for the same concerns I had, as it turns out). The whitespace removal from the wikitable (starting at line 26 in the diff) is what I disagree with, as I think wikitable markup looks better with a single space on one or both sides of the "||" cell separator. It might be useful for your script to collapse 2+ spaces down to a single space within wikitables, but I wouldn't touch the instances of single spacing. Thanks for your consideration — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 17:39, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bunn Award

The first one? If so, I can't get a preview for that one (and I don't think I can even get the book from a local library). Sorry. Zagalejo^^^ 05:42, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't found much more about the Bunn Award itself, beyond the fact that it was "instituted by the Board of Trustees of the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1973". [1] I could probably find additional information on individual award winners, if you're interested.
Addition info about winners might help.—Chris! ct 20:27, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
With regards to the Walter A. Brown trophy, that article seems to include everything that is available on the free web. The oldest Google News hit for the trophy is this 1965 New York Times article, but unfortunately, I can only access NYT articles from 1980 onwards. Zagalejo^^^ 05:07, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My search came up empty, too. I tried my university ProQuest database, but can't seem to find anything useful.—Chris! ct 20:27, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I read that article on ProQuest. But I don't think it is relevant. It mentions something about a world hockey tournament and the winner of this get the Walter A. Brown Trophy. Walter A. Brown was involved with hockey. So, I suspected that's why the hockey trophy is named after him as well.—Chris! ct 20:46, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
David Fuchs (talk · contribs) has access to LexisNexis. Dabomb87 (talk) 16:11, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I will think about asking David Fuchs for help, thanks for the info.—Chris! ct 20:27, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(outdent) If all else fails, though, you can email hoophall.com for additional info or sources. Dabomb87 (talk) 21:42, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Review

Hi there! I'm drawing close to the end of a two-year project to create what will end up being the second-largest featured topic. I noticed that you're a frequent contributor to the featured items discussions, and I could use a bit of help. The last featured item I need to have approved is 2009 Orange Bowl, and I was wondering if you might have a bit of time to review the article. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! JKBrooks85 (talk) 11:17, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I made two minor fixes. It looks good to me. Good luck—Chris! ct 20:19, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! If you like it, would you be willing to offer your support on the review page? JKBrooks85 (talk) 22:17, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Did you mean "Delist" instead of "Delete"? Dabomb87 (talk) 00:29, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Thanks—Chris! ct 00:44, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
