Decon Media, Inc. is a New York based media production company. Their in-house independent record label, Decon Records, represents hip-hop artists including Chali 2na, Nneka, 88-Keys, RJD2, and Aceyalone.

Company history

Founded in 2000 as a film production house, Decon Media's success with the award-winning hip-hop documentary One Big Trip, allowed the company to expand its services into the production, design, marketing, and music industry.[1] Upon launching Decon Records, the company set out to provide services including A&R Consulting, Music Supervision, Soundtracks, Compilations, Original Music Production and Remixes, Music Marketing and Radio Promotion.[2]

Decon has worked with a variety of different clients. In 2008, they produced a full-length feature, A Million in the Morning starring Gavin McInnes, for Netflix; worked on video production for the Sony Ericsson TV campaign; and contributed to the soundtracks for Take Two's 2K Sports franchise.[3] They are also responsible Teva's 2009 "The Naturist" ad campaign.[4][5] Most recently, Decon created the online video campaign for Shakira's single "She Wolf" and signed with Red Bull to handle marketing on the 2009 BC break-dancing competition.[6]

Decon Records released Haiku D'Etat's Coup de Theatre with Project Blowed in 2004. Since then, they have released multiple records by Aceyalone, Dilated Peoples, Wax Tailor, and Evidence. In 2008, they signed 88-Keys to produce his concept album The Death of Adam, which was Executive Produced by Kanye West. More recent releases have included Chali 2na's Fish Outta Water (2009) and Nneka's The Uncomfortable Truth EP (2009)[7].

Decon has an in-house music video production studio. Jason Goldwatch, the Executive Creative Director for the label, has directed videos by Jay-Z, Ludacris, and Hieroglyphs[8]. Decon's video for "Stay Up! (Viagra"), the first single from The Death of Adam, was featured in an MTV special[9] and premiered on March 16, 2009.
