2nd AfD for Nadini Premadasa

Hi, I see that you have unsuccessfully tried to nominate this article for deletion for the second time. If you know that the article is not substantially different from the first incarnation, please feel free to nominate for speedy deletion (Db-g4). For now, I'll just try to fix the AfD for you. Jarkeld (talk) 19:35, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Note: Please state why you nominated the article for deletion at the discussion page here. Jarkeld (talk) 19:43, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I closed the AfD because the article was g4'd as I said above. It's a good option in these cases. Jarkeld (talk) 17:53, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your addition to Lionel Wendt has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other websites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of article content such as sentences or images. lionel wendt

There are still problems because you are reusing the original author's style and words. It is common because, we learn of the subject from the source. I will look into today. you are getting better, but still lots of work to be done. It would help, if you wrote down your points in sinhala and then retranslated them into english in your own words. (works for me). will do a rewrite later in the day.--Sodabottle (talk) 04:50, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid I have not got time actually to help re-write this article, and I don't think I would be good at it, but I can give you some ideas:
  • To avoid what you write being too close to the original sources, first read the sources carefully again, then go away and do something else for an hour or two, then write the article in your own words. After that, you can check it against the sources to make sure it is accurate, but if you make any changes then, be sure not to take actual sentences from the sources
  • Then you can ask for comments at WP:Requests for feedback. If you do that, explain that you are trying to avoid copyright problems.

Copyright problems

I see you have already read my previous note about copyright issues. I'm glad you had a chance to look it over. Your efforts to rewrite this content makes it obvious that you are trying to contribute constructively, and I would not want to see you blocked unnecessarily. I know that writing content from scratch is challenging when you are working outside of your native tongue.

As the administrator who most frequently addresses copyright problems, I am currently looking at your rewrite at Talk:Lionel Wendt/Temp. The first thing I noticed, which I have already removed, is that you translated a good bit of a Dutch source into English. Unless that source is public domain (see Wikipedia:Public domain) or compatibly licensed with Wikipedia, you cannot place extensive translation of it here. Only the copyright holder has the legal right to authorize translations.

The second thing I see is that in the lead, you have copied content from this source, when you write:

According to Ricardo Neftali Reyes Basoalto known Pablo Neruda (consul of Chile) analyzed , Lionel Wendt ‘s cultural life torn between the death rattles of the Empire and a human appraisal of the untapped values of Ceylon

The source says:

The pianist, photographer, critic, and cinematographer, Lionel Wendt was the central figure of a cultural life torn between the death rattles of the Empire and a human appraisal of the untapped values of Ceylon.

You cannot copy such content without clearly marking it as a quotation, with quotation marks or other acceptable markings, such as a block quote. This is essential to comply with non-free content policy and guideline.

I suspect based on earlier edits that one problem you may be running into is the daunting challenge of writing "from scratch", as we say, in a non-native language. I see some issues further down: "The art world was dominated under frequented Ceylon Society of Arts (CSA)", from [1], becomes "The art world was dominated by the officially patronized Ceylon Society of Arts (CSA)" From the same source, "one of his early purchases was a still-life in tempera, Dunkirk: Barometer; Wool and Floats, by the English avant-garde painter Edward Wadsworth" becomes "His early obtain were a still-life in Tempera, Barometer, Wool and Floats, by the English avant-garde painter Edward Wadsworth." From the same source (though footnoted to another), "In January 1930, supported by Winzer, Wendt organized what can now be seen as a landmark exhibition of work by Keyt and Beling." becomes "In January 1930 Wendt organized an exhibition of work by Keyt and Beling" (the only word in here that is not copied from the source is "an"; the rest is the same, with some content omitted). From the same source (also footnoted to another), "In February, Wendt published a thoughtful appraisal of Otto Scheinhammer's farewell exhibition" becomes "In 1930 February, Wendt published a evaluation of Otto Scheinhammer's farewell exhibition." You've omitted the word "thoughtful" and added the date, 1930. Otherwise, it is copied directly.

This suggests to me that the article has again not been written from scratch--which means to start over from the beginning and not take anything from what you had before. It may be that you are finding it hard to write original content, too, because you are trying to retain too much of the source material. Sometimes, you do lose details in working not too copy from the original.

At this point, the best option seems to be for you to try again, from scratch, or for me to put up a much briefer version of the article onto which you may build your own, original content. We do use reliable sources to base our information on, but not our language or our organization. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 19:20, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for fixing the quote. On Wikipedia, though, we don't require italics to note a quotation; quotation marks are good enough. :) I'll see if I can find another writer to help address it. If not, I'll prepare a briefer version so we can get it back into article space for our readers. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 10:50, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

{{helpme}} Dear friends ,I really appreciate if you can assist me to protect this article.Talk:Lionel Wendt/Temp. Wikipedia administrators require Avoid copy wrights violation and re write. I did few times rewrite and i got messages those are not successful . Could you please help --Wipeouting (talk) 13:58, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I'm afraid this is not what "helpme" is for. "Helpme" is for questions about how to use Wikipedia. I indicated above that I would look for somebody to help rewrite the content for you. If you'd like, I can go ahead and abbreviate the material so that the abbreviated version can be moved back into article space, but once you've asked for assistance as you did here, you really just need to be patient and wait further development, if you do not wish to attempt to rewrite it further yourself. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 20:59, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Wipeouting,

I have had a look at Premakeerthi de Alwis following a request by Ramya20 at WP:3O. The allegations surrounding his death that you wish to have included in the article must be sourced more carefully. The book mentioned doesn't appear on any database: Google Books, Internet Book Database, Worldcat, or Open Library so is very hard to consider it as verifiable. A blog translation [2] of a book that doesn't seem to exist, with a translation, is also unsuitable. If the translation was included on a website that could be considered a WP:Reliable source or if the existence of the book could at least be verified, then we could move this situation forward. At the moment I would ask you to resist re-adding the allegation until better evidence is forthcoming. I will give the article a quick copy edit to tidy it up as well. Thanks for editing! Bigger digger (talk) 18:09, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and I would encourage you to discuss issues with the article at its talk page: Talk:Premakeerthi de Alwis so that other editors interested in the article can contribute. Thanks, Bigger digger (talk) 18:12, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I like to keep conversations in the same place, so have replied here, I have this page watchlisted. There is not a problem with waiting for this book to appear in listings, there is no deadline, and this claim has been 20 years in the making. To wait another month or so to ensure it is verifiable is no big deal, but if this is just baseless gossip then it is not suitable for inclusion. Bigger digger (talk) 19:28, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I made my reply on page of Talk:Premakeerthi de Alwis --Wipeouting (talk) 03:12, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please wait until the book is available before adding the information. There is no deadline, so it is no problem to wait.
