Spencer Wiggins (Memphis (Tennessee) 1942) is an American soul - and gospel singer. He is an exponent of the so-calleddeep souland is considered one of the best kept secrets of soul music.
Life
Wiggins grew up in his birthplace, Memphis. Also lived in the same area James Carr and Bobby Bland. Wiggins' parents encouraged him to engage with music, especially gospel. Self his mother sang in the choir of the Baptist Church where she attended services. In 1964 Wiggins took his first single for the small but legendary Goldwax Label: Lover'scrime. Although this single was released under the sub-label Bandstand USA, but produced by Quinton Clanch: the big man behind Goldwax. It was followed by eight singles, but none became a hit. In 1969 Wiggins went on to Fame Records, which he recorded two singles. These singles were unsuccessful. In 1973 Wiggins left Memphis and moved to Miami. There he was active in the Baptist church and was still only gospel music. So he brought in 2002 are a gospel record label and the Tavette. In that same label was in 2003 when a single Wiggins also be heard (The Tavette All Stars feat. .). Spencer Wiggins and Co.
The Japanese Vivid Sound created a compilation of singles Goldwax, only this compilation is not released outside Japan. In two other compilations of his songs Vivid Sound Wiggins recorded. Wiggins was the second time "discovered", this time by a small group of avid soul fans. In 2006 brought the label Kent from a compilation that is available worldwide. Due to copyright issues, however, this compilation contains fewer songs than the Japanese release. The album is widely acclaimed and highly Wiggins, in addition to such James Carr, seen as one of the greatest unknown soul singers.
