Mayday Parade is an American rock band from Tallahassee, Florida. ===Inception and Voyage (2006–2007)=== |
||
In Fear and Faith was founded in 2006 by members Davey Owens, Mehdi Niroomand, Tyler McElhaney, Jarred DeArmas, and Ramin Niroomand and incepted while attending high school and recorded a self-titled demo during the same year. |
|||
With an undecided name, the band went into the studio to record their first EP Tales Told by Dead Friends with producer Lee Dyess. During the week they spent recording in the studio, they decided on the name Mayday Parade. The band went on their first U.S. tour with Brandtson and Mêlée, then on another tour with Plain White T's shortly after the release of the EP. |
|||
A year after recording the demo, founding vocalist Jarred DeArmas was kicked out of the group in desire of the members seeking a singer with a higher vocal range. Tyler "Telle" Smith was, at this point, employed as the band's clean vocalist along with Cody Anderson as the band's unclean vocalist. They replaced guitarist Davey Owens with Noah Slifka while keyboardist, Michael Guy left the band completely without a member in his replacement. With this line-up, they recorded their second EP, Voyage and released it via iTunes on December 17, 2007. Met with positive acclaim, the EP attracted the attention of Rise Records, which they were signed to the following year. |

===A Lesson in Romantics and Lancaster's departure (2007-2008)=== |
|||
In January 2007, the band started to record their debut studio album, A Lesson in Romantics. In April, shortly after the album was completed, however, not released yet, Jason Lancaster left the band for personal reasons. He would later go on to form the band Go Radio. In a news article regarding Go Radio on Absolutepunk.net, Jason replied with reasoning why he left the band, as well as his relationship with the band. |

<blockquote>...You guys should know things about this band that I can't tell you, but believe like I do that they are all good at heart, just a little misguided at times...Mayday was a big part of my life but ask them next time who wrote the album, I bet my name doesn't come up. Or why I am off the bio completely, or maybe how I am denied credit in the album for writing anything. Or maybe ask Derek how he can take credit in so many publications and reply to me "I understand if this means we can't be friends anymore" when I asked him about it. Ask Jake how easy it was to write me off when I had no more chorus' for him. We had been playing together for 6 years. I'm not bitter anymore and all will heal with time, but know the bands you love, and know they aren't always what they seem.</blockquote> |

Smith left the band in January 2008 to join Greeley Estates as bassist. He was replaced by Scott Barnes and the group released their debut album, Your World on Fire on January 6, 2009 via Rise. It reached #193 on the Billboard 200. Its overall success lead In Fear and Faith to inclusions on many tours in festivals. As well as touring for several years with groups such as Gwen Stacy, Our Last Night, Vanna, Emarosa, The Human Abstract, Life in Your Way, Burden of a Day, Lower Definition, Confide, VersaEmerge and Here I Come Falling, the band also toured with Emarosa, I See Stars, Our Last Night, Burden of a Day and Broadway. They toured in A Winter to Remember with In This Moment, Agraceful and Motionless in White. |

=== Imperial, Symphonies and member changes (2009–present)=== |
|||
On August 6, 2007, Lancaster posted another response regarding his departure from the band on Go Radio's MySpace blog: |
|||
On December 19, 2009, the band put an update on their Facebook profile stating that they were writing and recording a new album over those next 3 months. During mid-April, the band completed the record after touring Europe, its title was revealed as Imperial. On May 12 at Midnight (PST) the band released three new songs off of the album; "The Solitary Life", "Counselor", and "Bones" as streaming media online prior to its release. On June 15, 2010 Imperial was released worldwide. |

<blockquote>A lot of people keep asking about what happened with Mayday, and I still don't quite know what to tell them, other than we parted ways. I have to say that I was really upset about everything that was happening around me leaving the band, and I know that a lot of things were said on both parts that didn't really make a whole lot of sense. But in reality, I think everything came from the fear that I was about to lose 5 of my best friends...So for that all I can really say is I'm sorry guys...I hope that one day we can all be friends again and that you know I am leaving the door open for whenever you guys can bring yourselves through it again...I'm just waiting for you to say you still want it and that everything is cool.</blockquote> |

While In Fear and Faith were included on Attack Attack!'s This Is a Family Tour, unclean vocalist, Cody Anderson was forced to not be included on their schedule due to personal reasons and his position in the group was substituted by Bryan Zimmerman, formerly of Sky Eats Airplane. On December 5, 2010 it was announced that Anderson left the band completely. He created a status explaining the situation via his Facebook profile, but did not explain the reason why. The band is currently in the process of preparing a rendition EP Symphonies, which is expected to be released on May 3, 2011 with Barnes performing both clean and unclean vocals. Before this release the band once more changed its line-up. Both Tyler McElhaney and Noah Slifka were replaced by Jarred DeArmas and Sean Bell, respectively. Bell served as a touring member for the group in the rhythm guitar position before his joining and DeArmas was originally the band's vocalist during its founding in high school when he was 17 in 2006. |

===Anywhere but Here (2009–present)=== |
|||
In Fear and Faith are essentially a post-hardcore band, but perform the genre with a tied-in influence of metal and electronica. The group is primarily influenced by alternative rock, emo, hardcore and heavy metal bands such as Circa Survive, At the Drive-In, Sick of It All, Sepultura and Pantera. Music journalist, Andrew Leahy documented In Fear and Faith's sound as "a blend of furious instrumentation, electronic flourishes and screamo vocals" along with mentioning embracement of heavy metal while complimenting their hybrid sound of being the case why the group "were signed so quickly" and "wasted little time" doing so. |
|||
The band began writing their new record in December 2008, the first writing process as a band without lyricist Lancaster, who had written the majority of the bands songs up to this point. The band finished recording in June 2009. The new album, entitled Anywhere but Here, was released on October 6, 2009. The title track, "Anywhere but Here", was posted on their MySpace on July 28, along with a blog explaining that the first single of the new album will be called "The Silence", and would be released on August 11, 2009. On August 4, "The Silence" was released on Mayday Parade's MySpace and through iTunes. On September 9, Mayday Parade released another song from the album called "Kids in Love" to their MySpace page. |
|||
In Fear and Faith songs are usually - on average - three minutes in time length, but their larger and more-known songs such as "Live Love Die" and "The Taste of Regret" lead into four minutes of length. The main songwriters have primarily always been Ramin and Mehdi Nirromand, Tyler McElhaney and Scott Barnes. Bassist, McElhaney has commented on the band's guitar tunings stating that while the tunings on Your World on Fire and the Voyage EP would be set to the same drop throughout, Imperial features different tunings on several different songs to add "depth" regardless of the difficulty of this for live performances. |
|||

In Fear and Faith is an American rock band from San Diego, California. Formed in 2006, the group is currently signed to Rise Records and have released two studio albums and two EPs. Their debut full-length, Your World on Fire, being released nearly a year after the band's signing to Rise in 2008, peaked at #193 on the Billboard 200. Their second full-lenghth album, Imperial was released the following year and sold even better, charting at #4 on the Top Heatseekers chart in the US alone. Their band name is derived from the title of the song of the same name by Circa Survive.
History
Inception and Voyage (2006–2007)
In Fear and Faith was founded in 2006 by members Davey Owens, Mehdi Niroomand, Tyler McElhaney, Jarred DeArmas, and Ramin Niroomand and incepted while attending high school and recorded a self-titled demo during the same year.[1]
A year after recording the demo, founding vocalist Jarred DeArmas was kicked out of the group in desire of the members seeking a singer with a higher vocal range. With this line-up, they recorded their second EP, Voyage and released it via iTunes on December 17, 2007.[2] Met with positive acclaim, the EP attracted the attention of Rise Records, which they were signed to the following year.[3]
Your World on Fire (2008–2009)
Smith left the band in January 2008 to join Greeley Estates as bassist. He was replaced by Scott Barnes and the group released their debut album, Your World on Fire on January 6, 2009 via Rise. It reached #193 on the Billboard 200.[4] Its overall success lead In Fear and Faith to inclusions on many tours in festivals. They toured in A Winter to Remember with In This Moment, Agraceful and Motionless in White.[5]
Imperial, Symphonies and member changes (2009–present)
On December 19, 2009, the band put an update on their Facebook profile stating that they were writing and recording a new album over those next 3 months.[6] During mid-April, the band completed the record after touring Europe, its title was revealed as Imperial. On May 12 at Midnight (PST) the band released three new songs off of the album; "The Solitary Life", "Counselor", and "Bones" as streaming media online prior to its release. On June 15, 2010 Imperial was released worldwide.[7]
In Fear and Faith appeared on the entire 2010 Vans Warped Tour performing on the Skullcandy Stage. Craig Owens, formerly of Chiodos, performed guest vocals with the group on two of the tour dates.[8] In Fear and Faith also participated in the Band of Brothers Tour in the fall of 2010 with We Came as Romans, Confide, Upon a Burning Body and Abandon All Ships.[9]
While In Fear and Faith were included on Attack Attack!'s This Is a Family Tour, unclean vocalist, Cody Anderson was forced to not be included on their schedule due to personal reasons and his position in the group was substituted by Bryan Zimmerman, formerly of Sky Eats Airplane.[10] On December 5, 2010 it was announced that Anderson left the band completely.[11] He created a status explaining the situation via his Facebook profile, but did not explain the reason why.[12] The band is currently in the process of preparing a rendition EP Symphonies, which is expected to be released on May 3, 2011 with Barnes performing both clean and unclean vocals.[13] Before this release the band once more changed its line-up. Both Tyler McElhaney and Noah Slifka were replaced by Jarred DeArmas and Sean Bell, respectively. Bell served as a touring member for the group in the rhythm guitar position before his joining and DeArmas was originally the band's vocalist during its founding in high school when he was 17 in 2006.[14]
Musical style and structure
In Fear and Faith are essentially a post-hardcore band, but perform the genre with a tied-in influence of metal and electronica.[15] The group is primarily influenced by alternative rock, emo, hardcore and heavy metal bands such as Circa Survive, At the Drive-In, Sick of It All, Sepultura and Pantera.[15] Music journalist, Andrew Leahy documented In Fear and Faith's sound as "a blend of furious instrumentation, electronic flourishes and screamo vocals" along with mentioning embracement of heavy metal while complimenting their hybrid sound of being the case why the group "were signed so quickly" and "wasted little time" doing so.[15]
In Fear and Faith songs are usually - on average - three minutes in time length, but their larger and more-known songs such as "Live Love Die" and "The Taste of Regret" lead into four minutes of length. The main songwriters have primarily always been Ramin and Mehdi Nirromand, Tyler McElhaney and Scott Barnes. Bassist, McElhaney has commented on the band's guitar tunings stating that while the tunings on Your World on Fire and the Voyage EP would be set to the same drop throughout, Imperial features different tunings on several different songs to add "depth" regardless of the difficulty of this for live performances.[16]
