Tikal's featured article

Thanks for the advice, and I don't think you're being rude or intrusive. BTW, I already had three peer reviews for the article before, but I'll look at the other things you mentioned. And I don't mind that you're busy because I'm a little bit busy myself! --71.118.79.237 23:37, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

MedCom

Hi, that's a very good idea, and something that a lot of candidates have done, joining the Med Cabal. What I would suggest is that after you've done a few cases on there and if you still are interested in joining the committee to take one of the unassigned cases. Mention which case you've taken on your nomination and that way we can have a look at how you get on. If you ever need any help then let me know. --Wisden17 01:01, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Portal:Taiwan mediation

Hi The Halo,

Thank you for taking up the Portal:Taiwan mediation case. The only problem with the dispute is one of geography vs. politics. I actually had the same opinion as User:Chiang Kai-shek before understanding the intention of the portal.

A "Taiwan" portal is intended to be about the island of Taiwan avoiding political bias hence NPOV. However, Chiang seems intent on changing the portal into "Republic of China" which causes many problems. ROC was never a colony of Netherlands or Japan. A "Taiwan portal" allows mention of this as well as about the current ROC on Taiwan.

The "Taiwan portal" is intended to allow people to learn about the history of the island. Many topics would be impossible under an "ROC portal" since ROC is not Taiwan (it rules Taiwan but is a seperate entity rivaling the PRC) but part of the history of Taiwan.

My question is how to make the portal finalized as Portal:Taiwan? so that other Wikipedians will not resort to revert edit wars? A vote for the portal? Arbitration Committee? — Nrtm81 11:53, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Are you still on the Mediation Committee? I saw something about your withdrawal. — Nrtm81 12:07, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ah OK, my mistake, didn't know there's a Wikipedia:Mediation Committee and Wikipedia:Mediation CabalNrtm81 14:29, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Halo, I think you should also contact User:Captain0 and get his input over this issue. He might even have a better way to get Chiang to understand the reason for the naming of the Portal better. — Nrtm81 07:41, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi The Halo, I've filed a request at the Arbitration Committee. If you would like to add a statement, please do so. Thanks for all your help. Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration#Current requestsNrtm81 17:00, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We have filed an RFC here. Ideogram 09:52, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks The Halo for all your efforts and I apologize for dragging you into a hopeless mediation. I didn't realize that Wikipedia cannot determine nor enforce the naming of a page. ArbCom has also rejected the case on that policy basis. All I can hope for is to get a general consensus from the community. Thanks again. — Nrtm81 15:37, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

lolz, you need to have a word with User:Ideogram. He said: "If you want to end the argument, you have to make him go away." (Refering to Chiang Kai-shek). He has some mafia tendencies me thinks ;-) If he could have his way, he'd make us both go away to end the headache :-D But on a serious note, aren't mediation people supposed to be neutral? Chiang Kai-shek hasn't done anything malicious, only violated the good faith ethic a few times. He just has strong opinions as I do. — Nrtm81 16:20, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously Ideogram has some problems. Nrtm81 and I have both said many "bad" things during this heated debate. Ideogram is not neutral at all and is against me. Forget him. I'm not going away anytime soon. -Chiang Kai-shek 01:04, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

FA failed

I'm sorry to say that Tikal's featured article failed, but it is now a good article candidate. But I'll keep trying to improve the article so it can be a featured article one day...it is possible for it to become a featured article after if fails once, right? --71.118.86.166 22:46, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My beloved Halo

I'm truly moved that my modest words have meant so much to you, to the point that you've dedicated me a whole subpage. Your words of gratitude and your beautiful gift also made my eyes go wet. In these unpleasant and hard times you're going through, I want you to know that you'll always have in me a shoulder to lean on. I'm so honored and happy to call you my friend. May the bright light of the Great Spirit always shine upon you, (and a big big hug!) Phædriel tell me - 00:14, 22 June 2006 (UTC) [reply]

Mediation Cabal

Hi, If the case wasn't my first, I would say Yes! Maybe we could work on one together in the future? Lewispb 13:46, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:My Statement

That's ok :) My spelling and typing accuracy is pretty bad (you can probably tell on IRC when I don't have a spellchecker!) so when I see obvious mistakes I try and correct them (and that's the wiki way after all). Petros471 14:39, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was nice working with you

Don't feel bad about the mediation failing, in my experience most mediations fail. Typically the requestor is more motivated to reach a solution than his opponent. Ideogram 16:10, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PS you can reply here I've watchlisted you. Ideogram 16:11, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Very nice working with you to. It's just too bad that we couldn't get somewhere. Saying that, though, they didn't exactly give us a lot to work with ;) I look forward to working with you again sometime in the future, at which time maybe we'll be more succussful! Good luck. The Halo (talk) 16:13, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think your idea of Porta:ROC then Taiwan is a good idea. BlueShirts 19:16, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Typically..but in this case Nrtm81 just said he wouldn't accept anything other than "Taiwan." So what was the point in calling you to in? I worked hard to reach a compromise. Portal:Taiwan Island should be the best bet. He should accept that, otherwise there's not much left to work with. I will not accept Portal:Taiwan. -Chiang Kai-shek 05:01, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks for the encouragement on Tikal's article in becoming a good one. But if it's not too inconvient, would you mind telling me when you think the article is ready to become a featured one? --71.105.7.189 18:26, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Our nicks

Don't worry, sweetie, it's nothing that personal, and I'll be happy to tell you ;) I'm afraid it's quite superficial, in fact. When I first registered, I tried some usernames, only to find out they were already taken. Then I recalled some names from a few computer games I had played years ago as a teen, and I remembered an NPC from Dungeon Siege, an archer called... Phaedriel. I really didn't give it much thought at that moment; I just wanted to edit, and that name was as good as any other (well, of course, I liked it anyhow! ;) Little I knew then that it would become the name by which I am known around here! How about you, hun? How did you come up with yours? (besides from the obvious fact that you're an angel! ;) Phædriel tell me - 00:36, 23 June 2006 (UTC) [reply]

A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I pity you, Trunks. Don't you think it might not be a good time to join groups like the mediation cabal? I mean, what with your exams, and the stuff at home. Sergeant Snopake 11:04, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you end up like Basil Fawlty, don't blame me. ;) Dude! It's genuine, man, okay? Sergeant Snopake 11:11, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the thanks.

It is nice to be appreciated, however I cannot take that much credit. I feel that you underestimate the role that you, and others like you played in the discussions. Members and former members of the leadership may head Esperanza, but it is the general membership that are it's heart. Again, thanks for the thanks. -JCarriker 12:10, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sweet dear Halo and Snopake (I'm sending this to both of you guys), thank you so much for your warmth and your words on my Talk page - it's great to have you two back! :) Sorry I had not replied right away, but I was in service most of the time on 4th of July and I really couldn't get much to the comp. Funny thing is I had never interacted with this lady before, but who cares about one misguided person when there's wonderful people like you two around? Anyway, my English friends, sit with me for a while, get yourself a cold Coke and tell me what you did on your vacation. Who goes first? ;) I love you two! Wow, Halo babes! I'm very impressed... it's a short, yet straight to the point analysis, and I was specially moved by your choice of a picture to illustrate that subsection (I'm biased, of course! ;) I had no idea you were interested in native American topics, that's quite a plesant surprise. I can suggest you some articles you could to get started, if you wish.

And regarding the chocolate, I know it's kinda weird to see an American choose Cadburys over Hershey, but hey, that's my preference ;) Next time I go to the UK, I'll make sure to bring about a ton of that wonderful Cadbury tablets with mint chips... *drools at the thought* :) You must be sleeping now, hun, so when you wake up and read this, give Snoopake a great hug from me, and try and have a wonderful day.
