The 2015–16 season is be the 94th season of competitive association football and 79th season in the Football League played by York City F.C., an English football club based in York, North Yorkshire. Their 18th place finish in the 2013–14 season means it is their fourth successive season in League Two. The season covers the period from 1 July 2015 to 30 June 2016.

Background and pre-season

The 2014–15 season was Nigel Worthington's second start to a season as manager of York City, having taken charge in March 2013.[1] Worthington resigned as manager in October 2014 with York one place above the relegation zone.[2] He was replaced by Russ Wilcox,[3] who had led Scunthorpe United to promotion from League Two last season before being sacked with them struggling in League One.[4] York secured safety from relegation with more than two weeks of the season to spare,[5] and finished the season in 18th place in the 2014–15 Football League Two table.[6]

Ahead of the 2015–16 season York released Wes Fletcher, Ryan Jarvis, Lewis Montrose[7] and Danny Parslow,[8] while Jason Mooney left for Accrington Stanley.[9] Josh Carson, Michael Ingham and Tom Platt were retained with new contracts.[10][11] York have made five summer signings thus far, those being goalkeeper Scott Flinders from Hartlepool United,[12] defenders Eddie Nolan from Scunthorpe United[13] and George Swan from Wolverhampton Wanderers,[11] midfielder James Berrett from Yeovil Town[14] and striker Vadaine Oliver from Crewe Alexandra.[15] Midfielder Callum Rzonca entered the first team squad from the youth team after agreeing a professional contract.[7][16]
