The next PSOE leadership election—in the form of a party congress—will be held on 17 and 18 June 2017^[1] to elect a new party leadership. Former Secretary General Pedro Sánchez was ousted after a party crisis resulted in the resignation of half his executive committee^[2] and a troubled federal committee in which Sánchez lost a key ballot.^[3] A caretaker managing committee, headed by Asturias President Javier Fernández, was appointed to lead the party in the interim until a party congress to elect a new leadership could be organized.^[4]^[5]
