The Manipur Legislative Assembly election, 2017 will be held on 4 March & 8 March 2017, to elect the 60 members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly,[1] as the term of current Legislative Assembly ends on 18 March 2017.[2] Voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines will be used along with EVM in four assembly constituencies in Manipur.[3]

Background

The current Legislative Assembly expires on 18 March 2017.[2] In the last election, held in 2012, the Congress won 42 seats and Incumbent Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh was re-elected.[4][5] In 2014, the Manipur State Congress Party, with its five Members of Legislative Assembly, joined the ruling Congress.[6]
