Biography
Erica was born and bred in Kurla, Mumbai. She belongs to the Mangalorean Catholic community and is the daughter of Ralph Fernandes, a model and interior designer, and Lavina.[3] She did her schooling from Holy Cross High School, Kurla; while she completed her pre-degree course from SIES College, Sion. She had enrolled for a BA degree course from St Andrew's College, Bandra; however, she discontinued the same to pursue a modelling career.[1]
Career
Since 2010, she has taken part in pageants and notably won Pantaloons Femina Miss Maharashtra 2011 amongst other titles.[4][5]
Erica auditioned to play the lead role in S. J. Surya's Isai but was eventually not picked for the venture. She subsequently was selected to play the lead role in the bilingual Virattu / Dega instead, featuring alongside newcomer Sujiv, son of the director Kumar.[6]
Director Sasi had seen pictures of Erica at Meera Kathiravan’s office, whom she was shooting another film with, when he was casting for Ainthu Ainthu Ainthu. Sasi offered her a role of a software engineer in the film alongside Bharath, who plays her love interest. Due to the delay of her other films, Ainthu Ainthu Ainthu became her first release. In 2014, she made her debut in Kannada with the film Ninnindale featuring alongside Puneet Rajkumar, which was followed by her debut Hindi film Babloo Happy Hai, directed by Nila Madhab Panda.[7] In February 2014, Virattu eventually released. Its Telugu version however was pushed to late 2014 and Galipatam became her first Telugu release. The film received decent reviews from critics, who also noted that Erica "does a good job" and "shows maturity in her acting".[8][9][10][11]
Her delayed film with Kathiravan, Vizhithiru is likely to release in 2016 and sees her feature amongst an ensemble cast including Krishna, Venkat Prabhu and Sara Arjun.
Currently, Erica has been working in a tv show (Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi) opposite Shaheer Sheikh. She has also started a Youtube channel named after Erica Fernandes and has 215k subscribers.
