Hello, Maile66. You recently helped me by adding an image of Mark McKinnon to his article, so I wanted to see if you'd be willing to assist with another article, too. The Eater article was recently moved into the main space, so I drafted a new summary of article for Vox Media (the site's parent company) here. Another editor seemed fine with the proposed wording, but the section still has not been updated. Would you be able to review the proposed text, which is essentially a sourced version of the Eater introduction, and copy over the markup appropriately if the wording looks good? Thanks for your consideration. Inkian Jason (talk) 19:35, 27 July 2018 (UTC) |

:Inkian Jason I don't normally do this COI editing. I find it visually confusing in the edit window. The citations, that is. My understanding is that you want the one paragraph section in Vox Media swapped with what you wrote. One editor objects to all the citations and says you only need 5. And they have suggested the 5. In the edit window (on my browser), it just looks like a mass of citations overwhelming the text. Difficult for me to differentiate. Below the last sentence, below the last editor who said they're too busy, please put in another version, the same text, but with only the 5 citations. That way, I would only have to copy and paste for you. — Maile (talk) 23:40, 27 July 2018 (UTC) |

WP:NRHPHELP link and info clean up
Doncram Re: WP:NRHPHELP See how I cleaned up the Alabama listing. If you have no objections, over time, I'll clean up states one by one. I think we are in an age when readers want to scroll down and eyeball what's there, reading as little as possible when they scroll. On a Google or Bing search, I really didn't immediately see a lot that led me anywhere on Alabama. But, boy oh boy, when I looked at the ALA Alabama state databases, it was a wonderful surprise of informational link. Every state is different; ALA can only list what the state provides. I've previously searched through midwest/east coast states and came up dry. I certainly didn't expect Alabama to be such a bonanza, but Hooray! for Alabama. Under History, People and Culture in the ALA link, they have hardbound newspapers, image digital collections. Wonderful. — Maile (talk) 22:17, 24 May 2017 (UTC)

Hawaii women in politics
Do you know if any women served in the Hawaii territorial legislature between Rosalie Keliʻinoi in 1925 and Elsie Hart Wilcox in 1932? They would have to have been representatives instead of senators since Wilcox was the first female senator. Likely there were none but just curious if there were any.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 04:22, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
- [2] possibly three more interesting women figure to look into: Dinah H. Naeole, Annie Woolsey-Harris and Mrs. George W. Wright (possibly May Martha Lycett).--KAVEBEAR (talk) 04:33, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
- I don't know yet. That Wilcox family had some interesting women in the 20th Century. And that includes Emma Kauikeolani Napoleon Mahelona Wilcox who married into the family. — Maile (talk) 11:29, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
- KAVEBEAR Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red is focusing on women lawyers. Possible drive in September. See List of first women lawyers and judges in Hawaii and "Hawaii Women Lawyers: Non-profit organization serving its members and the community". www.hawaiiwomenlawyers.org. There is also List of first women lawyers and judges in Australia and Oceania. — Maile (talk) 11:26, 1 June 2018 (UTC)

- An RfC about the deletion of drafts closed with a consensus to change the wording of WP:NMFD. Specifically, a draft that has been repeatedly resubmitted and declined at AfC without any substantial improvement may be deleted at MfD if consensus determines that it is unlikely to ever meet the requirements for mainspace and it otherwise meets one of the reasons for deletion outlined in the deletion policy.
- A request for comment closed with a consensus that the promising draft template cannot be used to indefinitely prevent a WP:G13 speedy deletion nomination.
- Starting on July 9, the WMF Security team, Trust & Safety, and the broader technical community will be seeking input on an upcoming change that will restrict editing of site-wide JavaScript and CSS to a new technical administrators user group. Bureaucrats and stewards will be able to grant this right per a community-defined process. The intention is to reduce the number of accounts who can edit frontend code to those who actually need to, which in turn lessens the risk of malicious code being added that compromises the security and privacy of everyone who accesses Wikipedia. For more information, please review the FAQ.
- Syntax highlighting has been graduated from a Beta feature on the English Wikipedia. To enable this feature, click the highlighter icon () in your editing toolbar (or under the hamburger menu in the 2017 wikitext editor). This feature can help prevent you from making mistakes when editing complex templates.
- IP-based cookie blocks should be deployed to English Wikipedia in July (previously scheduled for June). This will cause the block of a logged-out user to be reloaded if they change IPs. This means in most cases, you may no longer need to do /64 range blocks on residential IPv6 addresses in order to effectively block the end user. It will also help combat abuse from IP hoppers in general. For the time being, it only affects users of the desktop interface.
- Currently around 20% of admins have enabled two-factor authentication, up from 17% a year ago. If you haven't already enabled it, please consider doing so. Regardless if you use 2FA, please practice appropriate account security by ensuring your password is secure and unique to Wikimedia.

Recent changes
- When you log in to your account you can choose to keep being logged in. This checkbox now works better than before on the mobile version for users without JavaScript. [3]
- Wikis that use Citoid can automatically generate citations for Swedish news sites. This only works in the visual editor. This now works for Swedish public service radio. More will come. Others could use this to add news sites in other languages in the future. [4]
- Editors can do max 90 edits per minute. This is new since last month. This does not affect bots or administrators. [5]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 24 July. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 25 July. It will be on all wikis from 26 July (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 25 July at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Move
Can you help me with these moves? I wonder if there is an easier way to do this like a desk for non-admins to propose these non-controversial blacklist moves. I peruse Category:Hawaii geography stubs to find these problematic titles.
- ✓Kea'iwa Heiau State Recreation Area → Keaʻiwa Heiau State Recreation Area
- ✓Pao'a Point → Paoʻa Point
- ✓Ulupa'U Crater → Ulupaʻu Crater
- Moloka'i Light → Molokai Light - ? KAVEBEAR What you proposing with this one? I see two blue links, both of which are old. — Maile (talk) 11:35, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
Side note, I came across a person named Alohikea who was involved in the Honolulu Courthouse riot. I wonder if he has any relation to Lizzie Alohikea.
KAVEBEAR (talk) 03:20, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
- Lizzie got her name from her husband, Kauai musician (Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame) and politician Alfred Alohikea. Don't know when he was born, or exact date of death. But he died sometime in the 1930s. I can't find an obit for him, or much in the way of news while he was a politician. Taylor, Clarice B. (March 17, 1960). "Tales of Hawaii: Alfred Alohikea and Hanohano Hanalei". Honolulu Star-Bulletin at Newspapers.com. p. 38. Retrieved July 27, 2018. — Maile (talk) 12:21, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
- In regards to your thoughts about a desk to handle these, I have only dealt with your requests and don't know enough about that process. I'm confident of your requests, because I know your background on Wikipedia. But as for a general desk to handle this stuff, I'm wondering if m:Spam blacklist/About is the place to ask about that. Seems to me that Meta-Wiki has a lot to do with this. — Maile (talk) 13:20, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
"Eater" section of the Vox Media article
Hello, Maile66. You recently helped me by adding an image of Mark McKinnon to his article, so I wanted to see if you'd be willing to assist with another article, too.
