Cleanup

I tossed in an infobox, but I know very little about the single, so I couldn't add much. I'd appreciate anything anyone can add in.

Genre

According to wikipedia's own website this is, in fact, a country song.

Stephen Lynch

In Stephen Lynch's song "Beelz" (about a flamboyant version of Satan) he makes a joke stating that the devil "would never be caught dead in Georgia" (after imitating the Charlie Daniels Band briefly) This isn't really a parody, and i'm not nearly good enough at editing wikipedia to add it in a relevent section.

Coyote Ugly

Should there not be some reference to the song being A) Used in the movie Coyote Ugly (film) as the main bar song, but more importantly that this is one song that every Coyote Ugly Saloon bar uses for the girls to get on the bar and do their routine? Covers/Adaptations/Parodies Sections

I more or less second this, except I wouldn't be too hasty flat out removing them. Obliterating them will only serve to offend and aggravate the regular editors and I don't want to see edit warring here. As it stands, the tags should stay, if no improvement or attempt to trim, prune, integrate, or improve said sections is seen, then we should consider deleting the most trivial parts flat out. I concur with the sentiment expressed above. There is some good information in these sections that I would hate to see removed and should remain in the article in some form, but in its present form it has too much. It needs to be pared down, and some of the less important or more tenuous entries removed, and these three sections combined into one or two. I've added the examplefarm template to the header as I believe it more concisely addresses the problem of having too many adaptations/covers/parodies than the trivia tags did. I've also removed the comments about Guitar Hero since they seem overly pedantic. Okay, please take a look and let me know what you think. People might have questions about removing the Tenacious D stuff. My reasoning was that the devil vs. human motif isn't all that uncommon and I don't feel that "Tribute" is directly inspired by the song (and Tenacious D haven't, to my knowledge, said that it is. I also trimmed the level of detail on some things, reasoning we don't need to know how the various battles worked out on, say, Futurama or Robot Chicken. Cover, additional information needed

I've heard a song on the radio called "Manuel Went Down to Georgia," a parody cover likening the devil to illegal immigration, and I think it deserves a mention here. Charlie Daniels has issues.

Anybody else read that article where he didn't approve the Guitar Hero remake? You see his main reasoning? It's retarded.

That is not the case with the Guitar Hero version which comes complete with a horned, guitar-playing devil who battles the player and very often wins."

Uh... if you lose... that's probably because you suck at Guitar Hero. That's not the point, Charlie. The point of the battle is to beat the devil. And when you do, you get the victory solo with the lines saying that the devil got beat.

He needs to chill out. Besides, you can download the full song off of Live, and, if he had seen that, first, he probably wouldn't have had a problem with it, unless he hates metal.

I know it's probably disheartening that he has no say in remakes, now, but still, he also might be a bit jealous that the Steve Ouimette remake kicks more ass than his.

"Other versions and parodies" again

It's growing and taking on a life of its own again...now as long as the whole rest of the article. Do we really need to include every non-notable song by non-notable musician who has made reference of this original? I propose as a minimum guideline for inclusion that there must be notability, as demonstrated by bluelink, for the artist. I agree. Even though I'm a trivia geek I think that the "References in Pop Culture" sections of many wikipedia articles are overblown and perhaps unnecessary. Do we really need to know that Peter Griffin whistled half a bar of a particular song in an episode of family guy, or that you can hear it playing in the background of a particular movie scene for three seconds? Someone commented in the discussion section of another artice that South Park had parodied everything...it doesn't really add anything to say that such and such was mentioned on south park. And you could add The Simpsons and Family Guy and Robot Chicken. I love animation, but it does seem to induce a geeky obsession with minutiae.PurpleChez (talk) 12:47, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Devil Came up to Michigan is a glaring omission from the cover section. This cover (with modified lyrics) brought the song into an entirely new genre, new audience and new decade which is much more notable then covers which simply redo the original country style. Primus Cover

If we're going to note covers, shouldnt Primus be acknowledged? Their version complete with elaborate stop motion animated video is probably the best known cover of the song. I've deleted a large proportion of the Musical references section, as it appears to be original research.
