- Ajmal Kasab, a Pakistani national, is sentenced to death by an Indian court for his involvement in the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
- Three people are killed in Athens during widespread protests held in response to proposed austerity measures aimed at ending the Greek debt crisis.
- After two months of unrest, Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and Red Shirt protesters agree to hold a general election in November.
