The Graphics Lab is a project to improve the graphical content of the Wikimedia projects. Requests for image improvements can be added to the workshop pages: Illustrations, Photographs and Maps. For questions or suggestions one can use the talk pages: Talk:Graphics Lab, Talk:Illustrations, Talk:Photographs and Talk:Maps.
This specific page is the requests page for the photography workshop. Anyone can make a request for a photograph to be improved for a Wikipedia article. The standard format for making a request is shown below, along with general advice, and should be followed.

Advice to requesters

All requests:

  • Please make sure your request is "legitimate" by copyright. If the image(s) are in the public domain or freely licensed, you are fine. If the image(s) are "Fair use", there are only certain things we can do with them without falling afoul of Wikipedia's fair-use policies.
    • If you are requesting assistance with a copyright or fair-use image, don't display it on this page; place {{GLNF|Example.png|caption|align=left}} to create a link to it. Do not add the File: extension. Our fair-use policy does not allow displaying fair-use images out of their articles on ANY account.
  • Please check back regularly to see if progress has been made or if any additional questions need to be answered before the request can be completed.
  • If a request is done to your satisfaction, please mark it with {{resolved}}.

SVG requests:

  • Make sure your request can actually BE vectorized. Note that vector drawings are not suitable for certain applications. We generally use SVG format for icons, logos, drawings, maps, flags, and such. Certain things, photographs especially, are totally impossible to vectorize.
  • Per our non-free content policy, vectorization of copyrighted images is not permitted. If a vectorized non-free image is desired, seek out such an image from the copyright holder.

panoramic stitching

Article(s): Otto H. Kahn House, Felix M. Warburg House, etc.

Request: I've put in the panoramic requests on the Commons a while ago, unfortunately not much has happened since. With some images, stitching was used that made the result look very warped and strange, please avoid that. Each image is already interlinked with the part it's supposed to be stitched with. Thank you. Gryffindor (talk) 18:33, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well I took a stab at the one image: #9. Here's the results of that try:

It's not terribly different from File:John Henry Hammond House 003.JPG. If that try's deemed suitable, I can take a go at the other eleven images and see what kind of results I get with them... Tabercil (talk) 23:16, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes please. Gryffindor (talk) 03:50, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Image's request under progression Request taken by Tabercil.  Done The results I got:

These are the images which I could merge together into an acceptable final image. As for the missing ones:

  • #5, 7, 8 & 10 had severe distortion on the final merge - specifically a strong fish-eye-lens effect at the very bottom. If you look closely you can see it to a small extent in #2 & 4, and to a lesser extent in 11 &12.
  • #6 has people who moved between the shots and I'm not skilled enough at this point to be able to correct for that. Tabercil (talk) 03:56, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok nevermind, thanks for trying. Gryffindor (talk) 14:39, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Done #6. I used Hugin, saved the remapped/exposure corrected images, then blended using GIMP. gringer (talk) 01:50, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Erie Railroad - E. Bailey photos

Article(s): Carlton Hill (Erie Railroad station), Lake View and Southfields have not been made yet.

Request: In 1909, the Erie Railroad sent a professional photographer, E. Bailey to photograph all Erie facilities. The Syracuse University Library uploaded 36 pages of them. However, some of the negative plates are cracked and it seems most of them have blown highlights. I put three here, but there are numerous amounts. I need to see if there is a way to keep the blown down a bit and so it looks rather normal. Thanks. Mitch32(Transportation Historian) 12:43, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not quite what I had in mind since cropping cuts into the subject, but thanks anyway.
Mind if I undo it and let someone try again?

Misleading filename of "Fort Careé, Antibes, Alpes-Maritimes,France.jpg"

Article(s): Antibes Request: The filename of the above mentioned image suggest it was showing Fort Carré of Antibes. However, this is NOT the case. Instead it shows a view of the Baie des Angles (bay of angles) in direction Nice. More specifically, it shows Promenade de l'Amiral de Grasse below Château Grimaldi and the cathedral. Château Grimaldi is also known as Picasso museum. Therefore, the filename is wrong and misleading, and it should be corrected to reflect what is shown on the photo, for example File:Château Grimaldi, Antibes, Alpes-Maritimes, France.jpg Thanks. --Matthias 88.77.222.170 (talk) 21:03, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
