The greatest attendance of all Jamborees was in 2019, where over 45,000 members experienced a Jamboree in West Virginia, USA. O 'Jamboree Mundial de Escoteiros' é um Escotismo jamboree da Organização Mundial do Movimento Escoteiro, normalmente frequentado por várias dezenas de milhares de Escoteiros de em todo o mundo, com idade entre 14 e 17 anos.

O primeiro Jamboree Mundial dos Escoteiros foi organizado pela The Boy Scout Association em Londres. Com exceções para os anos da Guerra Mundial e da Revolução Iraniana, foi organizado aproximadamente a cada quatro anos e, nos anos mais recentes, foi organizado pela Organização Mundial do Movimento Escoteiro (WOSM), em diferentes locais ao longo o mundo.

Terminologia

Em lexicografia, "Jamboree" é considerado um Americanismo que remonta a 1860-65 e se refere a uma reunião alegre e barulhenta. [1] O termo é acredita-se que se originem das palavras jabber (conversa rápida e indistinta) e shivaree (celebração barulhenta), com "m" de jam (multidão). [2]

História

Embora Jamboree Escoteiro Mundial seja a expressão usada pela Organização Mundial do Movimento Escoteiro, [3] outras organizações realizaram eventos chamados "jamborees" para seus membros.

O programa Escotismo se tornou um sucesso internacional após sua fundação por Robert Baden-Powell em 1907. Com seu crescimento contínuo, o fundador do movimento viu uma necessidade para um encontro de representantes do Escotismo de todo o mundo. O objetivo geral era promover uma fraternidade mundial e ajudar os jovens escoteiros do movimento a aprender sobre outros povos e nações por meio da interação direta com eles.

A ideia de organizar tais encontros internacionais periódicos foi originalmente transmitida a Baden-Powell pelo Chefe Geral dos Escoteiros da Grécia, Konstantinos ("Kokos") Melas, durante o encontro internacional de escoteiros de 1918, na Inglaterra. [4] [5] O capitão Melas propôs que os encontros deveriam repetir a cada quatro anos, da mesma forma que os Jogos Olímpicos foram realizados na Grécia Antiga. A sugestão foi aceita com entusiasmo por Baden-Powell, que chamou os encontros de "Jamborees".

Há duas exceções: nenhum Jamboree foi realizado entre 1937 e 1947 por causa da Segunda Guerra Mundial, e o Jamboree de 1979, que seria realizado no Irã, foi cancelado devido ao agitação política na região naquela época. O Jamboree foi realizado em diferentes países ao redor do mundo. Os primeiros sete Jamborees foram realizados na Europa. O 21º Jamboree Escoteiro Mundial em 2007 foi realizado em Hylands Park, Essex, Reino Unido, e celebrou o Centenário do Escotismo. Por isso, a honra de sediar o evento foi novamente concedida ao Reino Unido, como berço do Escotismo. Mais de 40.000 jovens acamparam em agosto em Hylands Park em Chelmsford, Essex. Centenas de milhares de visitantes diurnos participaram de eventos no sudeste da Inglaterra como parte do Jamboree. O 22º Jamboree Escoteiro Mundial esteve em Rinkaby, Suécia, de 27 de julho a 8 de agosto de 2011; o 23º Jamboree Escoteiro Mundial esteve em Kirara-hama, Cidade de Yamaguchi, Japão de 28 de julho a 8 de agosto de 2015; [6] o 24º World Scout Jamboree esteve na Reserva Nacional de Escoteiros da Família Summit Bechtel em West Virginia, Estados Unidos, de 22 de julho a 2 de agosto de 2019. Jamboree on the Air, geralmente referido como 'JOTA' , é uma atividade internacional de Escotismo e Guia realizada anualmente no terceiro fim de semana completo de outubro. O evento foi realizado pela primeira vez em conjunto com o quinquagésimo aniversário do Escotismo em 1957, e foi idealizado pelo operador de rádio amador Leslie R. Mitchell que usou o indicativo G3BHK. É agora considerado o maior evento organizado pela WOSM anualmente. [8]

Amateur radio operators from all over the world participate with over 500,000 Scouts and Guides to teach them about radio and to assist them to contact their fellow Scouts and Guides by means of amateur radio and since 2004, by the VOIP-based Echolink. Scouts and Guides are also encouraged to send paper or electronic confirmations known as "QSL cards", or "eQSLs" when they are sent electronically. This provides the Scouts and Guides with a means of learning about fellow Scouts and Guides from around the world. It is an adjunct to the World Scout Jamboree.

The event is recognized as one of international participation by the various Scout and Guide organisations, and supports several awards which are a part of Scouting and Guiding programmes.[citation needed]

Jamboree on the Internet

Jamboree on the Internet, known by its acronym JOTI, is an international Scouting activity held annually. Participants, through the use of designated Chats from all over the world, can contact their fellow Scouts by means of the Internet. Common communication methods include ScoutLink (IRC), e-mail, and VOIP. This provides the Scouts with a means of learning about fellow Scouts from around the world. JOTI operates alongside JOTA (Jamboree on the Air) and is an official event of the World Organization of the Scout Movement.

JOTI was pioneered in 1995 by Queanbeyan Rovers whilst one Rover, Norvan Vogt was on a student exchange in the Netherlands, with the home crew in Australia co-ordinated by Brett Sheffield. They connected Putten, Netherlands and Queanbeyan, Australia with dedicated IRC servers.[9] In November 1996 the World Scout Committee, noting that Scouting already had a considerable presence on the Internet, and that there was already an informal and rapidly growing Jamboree on the Internet, decided that JOTI should become an official international Scouting event, and that it should be held on the same weekend as the Jamboree on the Air (JOTA).[citation needed]

2011 saw the first ever 'JOTI Radio' station, a broadcast internet radio station based in the UK to provide entertainment for the JOTI weekend, which had live interviews from Scouts all over the world, the team that lead JOTI Radio are made up of the 'Avon Scout Radio' team, which are a County Active Support Unit for Avon Scouts and provide broadcast radio services within the Scouting Movement worldwide.. JOTI Radio is now part of the annual JOTA/JOTI weekend.[citation needed]

Seguindo a ideia dos eventos Join-in do Ano Mundial do Jamboree, 'Jamboree na Trilha' (ou JOTT), [10] é um evento coordenado onde Escoteiros de todo o mundo participam simultaneamente de caminhadas locais. Acontece anualmente no 2º sábado de maio.

Este tipo de evento permite que os escoteiros participem das atividades ao mesmo tempo que outros escoteiros, promovendo a ideia da irmandade escoteira. Os participantes recebem um emblema JOTT como um reconhecimento por terem participado neste evento mundial.

Eventos menores

Existem até dez eventos menores de Jamboree (ou Jamborette) realizados a cada ano em todo o mundo. Isso inclui os Regional Jamborees, que são realizados a cada três anos em suas áreas do mundo. Escoteiros de fora dessas regiões são convidados, mas a participação geralmente é menor (por exemplo, o evento EuroJam 2005 recebeu 10.000 escoteiros, principalmente da Europa).
