Eleni Mylonas (Greek: Ελένη Μυλωνά; born September 14, 1944) is a Greek born American artist[1] based in Soho, New York City and Athens, Greece. Her work moves across media and forms, including photography, sculpture, painting, geometric abstraction, video art and performance. She is a Fulbright scholar.[2]

Background and Education

Eleni Mylonas received a BA from the University of Geneva in 1966 and an MA from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in 1967 as Fullbright scholar. She studied photography at the Polytechnic of Central London – University of Westminster, in 1972. She studied painting and sculpture at the New York Studio School in 1995. Her father, Georgios Mylonas, was the Greek minister of Culture and Education from 1989 to 1990 and her mother, Alex Mylona,[3] was a sculptor and the founder of The MOMus Museum Alex Mylona in Athens.

Work

Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions at the MoMA PS1[4] in New York City; BENAKI Museum[5] in Athens; Francoise Heitsch Gallery[6][7] in Munich; Ileana Tounta Contemporary Art Center[8][9][10] [11][12]in Athens; Zoumboulaki Gallery[13][14] in Athens; Foundation of Hellenic Culture[15] in New York City and Art Resources Transfer.[16] Her work has been shown at various museums and galleries including, the Queens Museum[17] in New York City; MOMus Museum[18]in Thessaloniki; EMST Museum[19]in Athens; Cooper Union[20]in New York; Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete;[21] and the Alternative Museum[22] in New York City. She has collaborated with international curators including Joanna de Vos,[23] Beral Madra,[24] Christian Oxenius,[25] Edward Leffingwell[26] and Sozita Goudouna.[27] Her work is currently represented by the Francoise Heitsch Gallery[28]in Munich.
