Refill

Hello, just wondered if there had been any progress on working out how to do a release of this tool? Also have you worked out how to get a local copy of the source running so that changes can be made to it and tested before it is put live? We need some instructions creating as to how both of these can be done, the existing list of things to get a local copy do not make sense to me and look to be more for UNIX than PC. Keith D (talk) 23:53, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Keith D: Yes, the instructions for installing the software locally for development and testing are written for UNIX users. After gaining access to the live environment, I tried to write an equivalent for PC users - see User:Curb_Safe_Charmer/Refilldev, but this requires a Windows Server rather than a Windows 10 PC, so for most people would require setting one up in a virtual environment such as the Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services cloud. I got so far, but couldn't get the final bits of the jigsaw in place. So at the moment I can deploy changes, but cannot test them myself. It would rely on trusting whoever is submitting a fix on GitHub to have properly conducted their own testing. What we really need is others to step forward who have the requisite experience with Linux etc. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 08:32, 30 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the update. Have been mulling over while working through my watchlist and think a way to get a test without a local environment would be to create a Refill copy (called something else) that you can deploy to as a testing copy. Once have this working then can copy over to the live version, something similar to having a sandbox copy. Though would give you extra work in doing the deployment but may be a way to get things progressing as an interim solution. Keith D (talk) 12:51, 30 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Keith D: That could work, for small, self-contained code changes where we can show 'this was the buggy behaviour on live, and this is the fixed behaviour on test'. We can then agree that such a bug is fixed and can be deployed to live. It won't work so well for bigger changes, and not where we need to attach a debugger to the back end. Let me see how we can move that forward. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 13:36, 30 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback granted

I have granted the "rollbacker" permission to your account. After a review of some of your contributions, I believe you can be trusted to use rollback for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, contact me and I will remove it. Good luck and thanks. ~TheresNoTime (to explain!) 17:13, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
