Undid revision 1055338518 by Yeeno (talk) No clear explanation of removal that explains the difference between the Global server marketplace and the South Korean server marketplace/premium store, as the game had/has two different markets and do not share the same premium store with different currency and offerings, unless it is confirmed/verified that all game servers use the same premium store. They are treated as two different stores as such.

MapleStory 2 (Korean메이플스토리 2; RRMeipeul Seutori 2) is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online role-playing game, developed by NSquare in association with Nexon and NCSoft. MapleStory 2 was released on 7 July 2015 in Korea.[3] The game takes many of the features of the original game, MapleStory, and applies them to a 3D voxel-based environment. Most enemies, NPCs, and locations made a return in this sequel, although with several changes.

Release

On April 14, 2018, the Western version of MapleStory 2 was announced for release with the first days of closed beta scheduled from May 9 to 16, 2018.[4] On June 8, 2018, Nexon announced the launching of a second closed beta to launch on the July 18.[5] On August 21, 2018, Nexon announced the global release of MapleStory 2. The game was released to western markets on October 10, 2018 as a premier event.[2]

Gameplay

A screenshot of gameplay from the now defunct western version of the game. The player character is in the centre of the screenshot, while the game chat panel is in the bottom left. To the bottom is the player's health, items and abilities, with a map and quest log to the top right.

Unlike its predecessor, MapleStory 2 features third-person movement, and a "blocky look, similar to Minecraft" according to Polygon's Jullia Lee.[6] The game contains features commonly seen in MMORPGs, such as a leveling system and customizable weapons and armour, but also a "Battle Royale" mode,[7] PVP arena and interior decoration minigame.[8] There were also a number of premium in-game currencies, called the Blue Meret and Meso Token respectively, which allowed players to buy unique equipment for their characters in the global servers.[9] The premium currency (also known as 캐시 아이템) in the korean server is called 메럿, and is used to buy items in the premium shop of the game in the korean servers.[10]

End of Japanese and Global version services

On March 18, 2020, MapleStory 2 Japan and West's management team announced that the game's Japanese and Global services respectively would be closed permanently as of May 27, 2020. The game continues service in Korea and China.[11] An official archive page was set up by Nexon, with illustrations and concept art available for download for free.[12]
